So This is What Drives Our Nation!

Updated on November 12, 2011

My home is located ten miles north of State College, PA, home to Penn State University. Of course, this past week we experienced the "scandal to rock all scandals". It makes me wonder, what has happened to our world? I see that Penn State made the front page of USA Today, and why?

America feeds on the sordid, the perverted, the sin. Eyes from across the nation were riveted to newscasts as they told the ugly story. A rise in tabloid and magazine sales was seen. More air time was given to the fate of long-time head football coach Joe Paterno than to the victims whose lives will forever be in ruin. The focus was on riots which resulted in vandalism and bodily harm, not on justice, restoration, and restitution.

But yet, Penn State, known as Happy Valley, is not the only place with problems. Channel 10 News is like watching a re-run. Same sick crimes--just different names in different locations. It seems that all the talk shows gravitate toward topics of sin like, abuse, lust, child molestation, gender blending, and other forms of a demented mind. It is easy for me to understand why America is like it is, when this seems to be all there is to feed on.

Filth in the movies, filth in the music industry, filth on TV, filth in the magazines, filth everywhere! My heart longs for Heaven. I am not claiming to be perfect. I am very much aware of my own sin nature. Still I want something more. The world just does not satisfy. Why does our society love sin so much? How did we ever get so twisted? What will it take to get us back on the right path? If I did not know the character of God, I would be ready to give up. I could easily see how people would say there is no hope for Amereica. I heard a wise preacher once say, "As long as there is God, there is hope!" We must keep our eyes on the God of Heaven and plead with Him all the more for Him to work on behalf of our nation.

Now is not the time to stop. Now is not the time to give up nor to give in. The battle rages on every hand. The enemy is approaching from all sides. Still, our command is to go forward. The gates of hell cannot and will not prevail against God's kingdom or purpose. Will you please join the ranks today and just be determined to serve God no matter what the devil may throw at you.

I know we are in the last days, but that does not matter. There has always been a fightinhg remnant. Would you please decide to be part of it today. Satan trembles at the banner of the Cross. Carry it high. Wave it proudly for the Glory of the Lord.

Do you truly believe God can send a nationwide revival to 21st Century America?

Good to hear from you. Yes, it's out of our hands. It truly is sad though that this kind of thing is what most people feed on. I think you're wise not to pay too much attention to the news.

I don't watch or read the news because of what you mentioned, it is filled with nothing but misery and filth. I am not convinced the man is guilty, but it really is none of my business, we have to let the courts decide what to do with him and his accusers.

Glad I stopped in to read this, you have really put our "culture" into perspective. And yes I believe we can see another great awakening in America. I was working earlier on an old poem I had written talking about the loss of innocence in our children way to early in life, I hope to put it on here soon.

Thanks for the visit. It's nice to know there are others out there that see the hand of God moving. As I said to Tamarajo, "The light shines brightest in the darkest places." Shine on, Sista!

lifegate I have tears streaming down my cheeks. You hit it on the head with the hammer. I hear parents wonder why johnny is straying away but the parent is so messed up johnny had no solid foundation. Oh Jesus come soon. Until then yes we must step up and out as Children of God and fight for lives. That is our commission and I see more Christians stepping out and God has His hand on it. People are searching. They are hurting so much. The enemy can take a hike off the hill to hell. He is bound there. Yes revival is possible because all things are possible with God but I believe the time is coming soon. We keep on in Christ keep watching Praise God for an awesome hub of love to reach others. Bod Bless u lifegate. You mighty warrior keep on you will, in Christ. Phil 4:13. Hugs Galore to you and Mrs lifegate. Voted thunbs up accross the board bro.

I have to say I have been feeling similarly about all the ugliness strife and problems of living in this world.

The Penn state scandal has been nauseating to say the least. Truly sad and grievous on all accounts. Not proud to live in a culture that values sports over victims. I do think it indicates really where we are spiritually as a nation. You are correct many more stories with different names and details.

May He keep a remnant alive and well that maybe there can be hope of a turn around at some point.

Very Thought provoking. It seems we are in the last days, so it would make more sense for people to be running to God. When the earthquake surprised the East Coast this summer, people were talking about the last days. How quickly everyone forgets and they are watching Jerry Springer again.

In these last days we are seeing evil take on more and more of the spotlight than our Lord. People are obsessed with darkness and evil deeds. Just think, if our hearts are grieved by all the evil that has permeated our nation and around the world, imagine how grieved God is. As each day goes by and I witness what’s going on around me, the less I want any part of this world. May God have mercy on us all. We are in need of a miracle.

      Hello, lifegate,

First, I am very glad that I discovered that you are on HubPages. Second, this is a useful, awesome, beautiful and interesting hub.

As a person who grew up in the 1950's and 1960's, I have seen this great nation of ours change for the worse in numerous ways. And as you so effectively pointed out, things have reached the point where goodness and good taste is OUT and wickedness and bad taste is IN.

However, because I am a "man of faith," I have no doubt that before it is all over, goodness and good taste will prevail. I am optimistic about the future of the United States of America.
