Sons of God (angelic view)
who the "Sons of God" (Hebrew = B'nai ha Elohim) in the Old Testament
were, as well as their offspring---the nephilim/giants, is crucial in
order to understand the UFO phenomenon, alien abductions, cattle
mutilations, recombinant DNA endeavors for transgenics, and the end time
delusion as a whole. The evil one is working in the minds of many in
his propagandist campaign, to keep his operations, movements, and
strategy shrouded in mystery. In ancient times, YHWH had watchmen to
warn his people of potential threats of the enemy. Today is no
What's generally overlooked in the root of this issue, is the two seeds of Genesis 3. Before we examine them, it's important first to understand who or what the serpent was that deceived Adam and Eve:
-KJV- Gen 3:1 Now the serpent (nâchâsh) was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Oftentimes, I hear mentioned that the serpent is a mere talking snake that somehow Lucifer spoke though (ventriloquism?), or it was actually him in the form of a slithery snake, well, something along these lines. After all, some Bible translations do in fact say snake and it's mentioned as being more subtil or crafty than any beast of the field. This language seemingly alludes to just another animal in the garden that's a little bit more clever than the others. This simplistic rendering has given way for skeptics of the Bible to add more twigs to burn, for their own version of a witch hunt.
Then there was Hebrew. To accurately determine what this snake was, it's beneficial to cite the language that the Old Testament was mostly written in, Hebrew. I don't claim to speak, read, or write Hebrew, but I'll introduce you to someone that does. His name is Dr. Michael Heiser. Dr. Heiser is a Ph. D. in Hebrew Bible and Semitic Languages. Shortly after receiving his Ph. D. from the University of Wisconsin, he was hired as the Academic Editor of the Logos Bible Software. He says that the root of the nâchâsh can be rendered three ways according to its use of noun, verb, and adjective.
Verb: to deceive or to divine = practice of divination
Adjective: to shine, shining one
So, when we put this all together, we have, a serpentine being that shines, who is a deceiver. Does this describe a talking garden snake? I think not. A cross reference to this would be in Isaiah 14:12 where there's mention of Lucifer, meaning bright and morning star. Now onto the two seeds mentioned in Genesis 3:15.
-KJV- Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
We know there are two seeds in this passage but what are they? There's a fair share of people that take one seed as literal, and the other figurative. The seed of the woman, Eve, is said to be a literal fulfillment with Christ being born in the flesh, dying on the Cross, and raising from the dead, while the seed of the serpent is spoken as only a figurative seed in the sense of evil spiritual influence in the world from Lucifer and his minions. Some people say both seeds are figurative as a battle between good and evil. The next view may challenge many to read this passage again for the first time. It is my position, that there's nothing in the immediate context to affirm there were two figurative seeds or even one of each, but rather both were/are literal! I see it as theological bias not to take both as literal, especially when one considers how the word seed is applied throughout Genesis. So if there are two literal seeds what are they? The seed of Eve, I believe to be the ultimate fulfillment, was the long awaited messiah Jesus Christ that redeemed man from the curse. Other elements of the "proto evangelium" being the restoration of the earth, his kingdom to be set up on earth etc, are things yet to come. And the seed of the nâchâsh, would be, those pesky Nephilim.
Before we discuss one of the most debated
scriptures on this topic, I would like to keep this thought in view.
Satan knew that there would be through the seed of mankind, an offspring
that would crush his head. Once this prophecy had been pronounced, this
is where I believe the blueprints for the breeding campaign began to be
discussed. When was this supposed to happen? Who is the woman or women
to put on the watch list? How could this prophecy be stopped? Can it be
thwarted at all? With there being no specific time frame mentioned at
this point, there likely was a scrabble to set up shop to "buy out" the competitor before they could
even go into business.
Giant humans or giant hybrids?
-KJV- Gen 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
The interpretation of the Sons of God in Genesis 6 being angels "is the oldest in the history of exegesis. . .”---Umberto Cassuto (A Commentary on the Book of Genesis From Adam to Noah Jerusalem: The Magnes Press, 1961). This was the view of the early church as well as the rabbis of the time. Now I'm not into mere chronological arguments, if that's all they are on their own merit but compiled with other elements of information, this factor can be the gas that drives the car home. There are two other views of who they were, but for this post I'm presenting primarily the angelic view. I will address the others at a later time.
Those that view the Sons of God as being angels, generally point to other scriptures that clearly show that the Sons of God, are in fact angels. They usually say that this term is an exclusive reference to angels. However, this is not always the case, as some have claimed. One passage in particular that ruins the exclusivity rebuttal is:
-KJV- Hosea 1:10 Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.
So with this, I will decline to use this reasoning in my defense. There are plenty of other scriptures that will help us make our case. I would like to hone in on their offspring --the Nephilim, which are translated Giants in English-- for awhile so to make it clear of who their parents actually were. With there being many tribes and factions of the Nephilim, and yes they were very large humans, it would seem odd to claim that every last one of them had the gene defect known as "giantism". A rather humanistic rendering of a supernatural book, in which, yes, logic and reason should be explored, but not void of the consideration of the other as well.
-KJV- Numbers 13:33 And there we saw the giants (nephilim), the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
-KJV- Deuteronomy 3:11 For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants (râphâ'); behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.
-KJV- 1 Samuel 17:4 And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
The size of Goliath is said to have been around 7-10 feet tall while King Og of Bashan being larger yet, some say over 12 feet tall! Keep this in mind when you go under a freeway overpass, where on average they are around 15 feet in height. Some say that the Gigantopithecus, said to be a giant ape, is actually a giant human instead because some were found buried with various tools. The height of a Gigantopithecus is definitely in the size range of King Og and Goliath, but according to proponents of evolution, giant humans simply never have existed, so, this creature has to be an ape of some kind regardless of other data that could suggest otherwise. To reference Numbers, where the people of Israel said they were grasshoppers in the site of the sons of Anak, this suggests that this group of Giants were much larger that 12 feet tall, some other ancient records speak of similar sizes.
The Hebrew word used for "giants" in Deuteronomy 3:11, is râphâ'. This same word (rephaim = plural) is used for the deceased, ghosts of the dead, shades, and spirits. It's rather revealing that the word for the dead, would be applied to living humans. To make it more interesting, is that the Hebrew language has two different words for the deceased. We know that râphâ' is one, and the other is mûth. One may ask, why are there two words for the dead, if there's only one type or classification of human? That will be answered shortly, but we must ask this question also, why are some humans said not to have a resurrection? Does this contradict Jesus' words when he said that there would be a resurrection for the just and the unjust (John 5:29), this meaning all humans? Who are those that will not rise and be resurrected?
-KJV- Isaiah 26:14 They are dead (mûth), they shall not live; they are deceased (râphâ'), they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.
-KJV- Isa 26:19 Thy dead (mûth) men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead (râphâ').
Here you have both words for the dead in the same verse in both of these passages. Why is there a distinction? Answer, because these are beings who once lived, but now are deceased, they are the departed spirits from the Giants, the Rephaim! We have seen in other places where they are called the Nephilim, the root word being nâphal. There are a variety of applications to this word including to fall, to cease, to cast down/out, to be lost, perish, etc. These are not ordinary people, they are demonic hybrids that will not rise! To say otherwise would be ignoring the text and disregarding the Hebrew. Lets examine how the word râphâ', is used in other verses.
-KJV- Job 26:5-6 Dead (râphâ') things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof. Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.
-DARBY- Job 26:5-6 The shades (râphâ') tremble beneath the waters and the inhabitants thereof; Sheol is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.
-DRB- Job 26:5-6 Behold the giants (râphâ') groan under the waters, and they that dwell with them. Hell is naked before him, and there is no covering for destruction.
cited a few translations so we can see the different ways that râphâ'
was translated. I found it particularly interesting that the Septuagint
(LXX) translated this word as gigantes/giants as well as the Douay
Reims Bible. Hopefully we can recognize that indeed these were no
ordinary spirits associated with Hell, the underworld, and under the
waters. To understand what lineage, seed, and gene pool these beings
came from, is to better understand the purpose for the deluge, the
flood, and why YHWH spared only Noah and his family.
-KJV- Gen 6:9 These are the generations (tôledâh) of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations (dôr), and Noah walked with God.
A fact that often gets overlooked when we read about Noah's ark, when missed, makes YHWH more out to be a tyrant than one that is merciful and protective to mankind, as a collective. As we can see in the scripture above, generations is mentioned twice but with a different word per each. The first occurrence of the word "generations" means a general family history, a genealogical list of one’s descendants, a family tree if you will. The second occurrence of "generations" is similar in meaning, but within the context of the passage it's talking about DNA or gene pool. It says Noah (including his family) was perfect in his generations, i. e. not tainted by the bloodline of the Nephilim that are from the seed of the nâchâsh (Gen 3:15), hence the reason for the flood. It's not that they were just so righteous -they were just, but there's more to it- and everyone else were just that rotten, it's more of the fact that all of the others were tainted by the satanic seed. If God wiped them out just because of their sin, then we better start blowing up a raft.
This was the "damage control" that the serpent was after. The breeding program was to breed out the impurities of mankind, well his view anyways (in reality the true purity of man), in order to preempt the seed that would crush his head, the messiah! This was his version of throwing "poop in the punch" so all of it would be discarded and have no redeemable value. He succeeded with all of mankind but eight people. It was by God's mercy that he spared Noah and his family, and wiping out the rest. This explains the reason for the Canaan conquests as well. God promised a seed to Eve that will redeem mankind, and he also promised a land for the seed of Abraham (Genesis 15:18). Each time the serpent tried to preempt the prophecy from happening.
The Promised Land
Gen 15:19-21 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites, And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims, And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
Here is something else that I learned from Dr. Heiser, which is very important. Knowing this "secret" will help us greatly to understand God's command to wipe out all of the inhabitants of the Land of Canaan. They were to spare nothing and no one; no men, women, children, and not even the animals. This subtly in the Hebrew, is something that the English will not tell you. Even though most of us don't read Hebrew, we can still see the little Hebrew letters above in bold (Yod) after the name of each people group or clan. In grammar it's called the "gentilic ending" or a "demonym". This denotes a people group or inhabitants of a location. Remember that Hebrew reads from right to left. As you can see for the word cited in bold, the Rephaim, they do not have a "Yod" by their name. This means that they are not a people group that's localized in one location. They permeated throughout the land intermingling with all the other tribes. Remember these were the Nephilim. Yes, they were spreading their tainted seed in all areas of the land that God promised to Abraham! We must keep this is mind when we read scriptures such as the one below, when we see God calling for the destruction of these clans. Effectively, these groups were literally the "walking dead" (Rephaim is such a fitting name for them) that could not be redeemed, hence the command for their utter annihilation.
-KJV- Deu 20:16 But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth.
Like father like son
Hopefully we've spoken enough about the "children of the damned" to see who they really were. Now it's time to talk about dear ole' dad. There are many books other than the Bible, such as the book of Enoch, Jubilees, Giants, Jasher etc that speak of what the fallen angels did to man. These books also explain their teachings of astrology, divination, seduction, and art of war etc. Since there are a decent amount of people that won't consider reading any of these books since they are not cannon, I'll continue to cite only the Bible. At a later time I'll explore those other books for those that are interested. Allow me to clarify that I am indeed "sola scriptura" but nevertheless it's interesting to read these books objectively.
-KJV- Jude 1:6-7 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation (oikētērion), he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange (heteros) flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
There's a couple of interesting words in these two verses that will shed more light on what the major sin (all are bad of course) of Sodom and Gomorrah was. It's usually taught they were just a bunch of homosexuals that just weren't into women. There may have been some homosexuality going on there too but there's more to the story. The sin of S&G is linked to the angels leaving their habitation. The Greek word used for habitation in verse six is "oikētērion" which is used also in the passage below.
-KJV- 2 Corinthians 5:2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house (oikētērion) which is from heaven.
The definition of this word, and it's usage in this passage is speaking about a house or body for the spirit. In other words, a spiritual body. We have to ask, when did these angels leave their spirit body? Before and after the flood! In verse seven of Jude we see the people of S&G going after strange flesh. This is where people usually claim that the strange flesh was homosexuality. We have a problem with that however. The Greek word used for strange, is "heteros", which is the root word for where we get the word heterosexual. This word means "another" of a different kind. The Greek word "allos" is the word that means another of the same kind. We also must keep in mind that there is an entirely different root word for homosexual, and that word is "homos".
As in the days of Noah
-CEV- Luk 17:26-27 When the Son of Man comes, things will be just as they were when Noah lived. People were eating, drinking, and getting married right up to the day when Noah went into the big boat. Then the flood came and drowned everyone on earth.
The disciples asked Jesus when was he going to return, and what would be the signs of his coming. Some of the earmarks were that there would arise false messiahs, there would be wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes in different places, and false prophets will lead many astray etc. But he says something else that is very profound, not to mention dreadful. He mentions the flood of Noah. Many will just skip over this moving right along, oblivious to what he was actually saying here. It's usually accepted that there would be just a parallel of very wicked days of Noah's era, to the time of when Jesus returns. That's part of it but only skimming the surface. Lets look at the context of eating, drinking, and marrying, for a moment.
Is there anything intrinsically wrong with eating, drinking, and marrying? Were people more evil in Noah's day than in any other time in history? I don't think so, not entirely. The defining mark here is the Sons of God marrying the daughters of men, and making those pesky hybrids. The context here is that the Giants were eating the flesh of man, they were known to be cannibals (Num. 13:32), ancient records from many cultures affirm their cannibalistic ways. Drinking the blood of their victims in religious rituals, this ancient practice was to "eat the soul" of the person for power, the ingestion of adrenochrome is said to be a natural high for the partaker. There have been many cultures throughout the centuries that have been guilty of this evil practice. We must also keep this in mind, that this is part of the reason for the no blood ban mentioned in Leviticus and other scriptures. Yes, there is a frightening reason that Jesus linked the flood of Noah to his coming in the future. The evil horde, the Nephilim, will return!
-KJV- Dan 2:40-44 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. 41And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. 43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. 44And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
the general consensus among Christians that the kingdoms mentioned in
Daniel are some of the major empires of history, and others yet to come,
including the coming empire of the Antichrist during the tribulation.
The last and final kingdom that will be set up is the Kingdom of God, on
earth. Some of the kingdoms include Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and
the Empire of Rome. I find the phrase "they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they
shall not cleave one to another" rather interesting. Some have
speculated that this means that the "they" are not human since they're
said to mingle with the seed of men. Also, the fact that they're (fallen
angels?) not cleaving to one another, as in marriage like they did in
Genesis 6 and other scriptures, this perhaps is alluding to cloning of
some sort! We can't know for sure though, I'll allow you to come to your
own conclusion. I'll expound on this thought at a later time.
Army from the abyss
-KJV- Joel 2:1-11 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh (Armageddon?), for it is nigh at hand; 2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations. 3 A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them. 4The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run. 5Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array. 6 Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness. 7 They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks: 8 Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded (immortal?). 9 They shall run to and fro in the city; they shall run upon the wall, they shall climb up upon the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a thief. 10 The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining: 11 And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?
This army mentioned in Joel has some peculiar attributes that make it an unusual one for sure. The phrase "fall upon the sword" is a common usage in the Old Testament for dying in battle. However, the usage here does not affirm this to be the case, for this army. It alludes to them being more than mortal, that are not effected by conventional warfare. A key to when these mighty warriors go to battle is in the day of the LORD, also known as Armageddon. There are many commentators ancient (such as Jerome-4th century) and recent that have linked the horses in verse four to locusts. This would seem to link this army to:
-KJV- Rev 9:7-11 These locusts looked like horses ready for battle. On their heads they wore something like gold crowns, and they had human faces. 8Their hair was like a woman's long hair, and their teeth were like those of a lion. 9On their chests they wore armor made of iron. Their wings roared like an army of horse-drawn chariots rushing into battle. 10Their tails were like a scorpion's tail with a stinger that had the power to hurt someone for five months. 11Their king was the angel in charge of the deep pit. In Hebrew his name was Abaddon, and in Greek it was Apollyon.
