In South India and Mysore proper you get the real South Indian Meals next to Coimbatore.Not even Madras or Chenni you can get to eat a good South Indian Meal Served on Plantain Leaf which Reduces Blood Sugar & Triglycerides.Many places in South India serve Meals which is mostly a mix of local plus south Indian for name sake.The typical south Indian food is only with rice and no wheat preparations included in the menu.Many of the Restaurants serve this meal on stainless steel plates with several pouches meant for side dishes like vegetable curry,sambar,rasam,payasam,kosumbari,chatni,raita,and will keep a fried papad or chilli as also half a spoon of salt.They will serve in the middle of the plate 3 Pooris which is a wheat preparation.Rice is served in a separate container a bowl.In some Restaurants they serve Tomato Soup.This is not a south Indian Meal.
A South Indian Meal has no wheat preparations.In our house wheat was meant for those who could not afford Rice.Rice is our Bread and we do not take butter but Ghee.This Ghee is Home made and never purchased from out side.We are Rice eaters mainly.There is a Joke on Rice and Wheat eaters mainly from north.Both were traveling by train and both had argument over who was strong.The Rice eater stood up and said I will prove how strong I am and he tried to pull the chain to stop the train.He tried to show his face that he was trying indeed very hard and never even pulled the chain by a millimeter,he gave up and said he could not pull the chain. The wheat eater stood up pointed his finger at his biceps and was laughing loudly and pulled the chain.The train stopped and the Guard on the train soon came and the wheat eater was fined.The rice eater was pointing at his head and was now laughing.The joke is meant to convey that rice eaters have more brains than wheat eaters.
The Bramhin community never eat wheat in their daily meals,may be things have changed and many do have Roti,Chapathi and Puri in their meals now.The Video shows a typical South Indian meal at a famous Restaurant in Channai.Tamil Nadu's South Indian meal is different from Mysore,Channai,Coimbatore,Madurai have good eateries by many Godly Names like Annalaxmi and Annapoorna.They are not traditional meals.A mix of other states like Andhra,Mysore and Kerals are included.As Uthappam and Coconut Oil which are not traditional Madras Meals.Madras Rasam is so famous even in Mysore and Mysore Rasam in Madras.They call Rasam as RUM.This has gone back on the menu in today's eateries.Mysore Bisi Bele Bath is included in Madras Meals which is now a universal dish though.Vettha Kolumbu is 100% in Madras Meal a traditional dish.Puliogara is a Mysore dish but is liked in Madras meal.Pongal is pure Madras dish though.
In Andhra the South Indian Food is different from Mysore,Madras or Kerala food.No Wheat preparation is never served in pure Andhra Vegitarian Meals like Mysore Meals.Their BIRYANI is world famous.The preparations are more of chillies and Chilli cut in half partly filled inside with Salt dried in Sun is called Balka which is fried in oil and served as equal to and by the side of any pickle.Tamarin which is yet to ripe in green state is used to make Thokku.A mouth watering paste with Rice and Ghee.This is Mysoreians creation by tradition
In Kerala a non veg state mostly meal served in traditional way can never go down the throat of a Mysore Man.Keralites live in Coconut Oil.The largest Coconut producing State in the world perhaps.No land is with out a Coconut tree.The Rice they eat is so big that children from Mysore get indigestion if they eat that Rice.No body likes their Vegitarian Meal.Many of these dishes are healthy and harbal.
