David the anointed King

~ Psalm 2 ~ Spiritual Journey From The Beginning To The End Of The Psalm ~

This wonderful Messianic Psalm is about the ultimate rule and sovereign authority of God. Here an Israelite King celebrates his coronation. But the true celebration to come; is the anticipated Coronation of Jesus Christ our Eternal King. Messianic meaning it proclaims the prophetic description of the coming of Jesus Christ the Messiah. His assured birth, dedication to God, sinless life, crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection are eminent.

David who was anointed by the Prophet Samuel and appointed by God is shepherd, prophet, warrior and eventually King! Many centuries prior to Jesus coming to earth in a body of flesh David boldly speaks forth the oracles of God concerning His arrival! The expected continued rebellion of the nations as well as that of the leaders is expected, when Jesus Christ comes to announce and establish His Eternal Kingdom! Here David marvelously pours out his heart in this Psalm!

David exudes a strong Faith. What is true Faith? “Now Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see...” Hebrews 11. Sure and Certain are the two words that are inclusive of FAITH! It is through his FAITH in the Lord David acknowledges the Truth of His Word! He knew that the Lord would fulfill all His promises. He personally had to wait years after he was anointed before he actually took over the throne as King of Israel. It is during this time the Lord prepared him for what was to come…

Book of Praise Lesson Highlights

~ Coronation of the Lord’s Anointed ~

Theme: God's ultimate rule. A Psalm written to celebrate the coronation of an Israelite King, but also written for the coronation of Christ the Eternal King.

Author: King David

“Why do the nations conspire, and the people plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against His anointed One!” One would think that after reading the WORD of GOD one would simply just believe? But for some it is not that simple. There is a rebelliousness ingrained into the hearts of mankind and taking heed to the scriptures is often the last thing in mind and far from the agenda!

It is fascinating that some will serve the office, post or position rather than stand for the principle behind it! All too often they will blindly follow those who they perceive to be in power yet neglect to develop an intimate and personal relationship with their Creator! "They exchanged the TRUTH of God for a lie and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator - who is forever praised." Romans 1. David realized the importance of embracing the Lord’s Word he knew and respected where his strength and source of power came from!

Despite all that the Lord has done mankind in general still seeks to follow after man that God has created rather than the Creator Himself! This was true at the time of the writing of this Psalm as well! Notice the plea that David is making from the very beginning! Why do the nations conspire…?”

When the principles of God’s Word are applied to any issue or situation one will see a marked difference in their personal life. His Word is where we get our foundational principles for life and living! It is here our true security & significance is discovered! God’s Word is “Alive” it is just as applicable now as it was then! It is our “Life Manual!” There is FREEDOM in the WORD!

The Bible: ~ Biblical Instructions Before Leaving Earth! ~

God is Sovereign this is true whether you believe it or not! Although many continue to try to prove evolution they cannot or will NEVER be able to disprove GOD! This world was spoken into existence through Jesus Christ! Through Him darkness has no power over our lives whenever we submit to Him! This does not mean that there will not be turmoil or disappointments. Valley and mountaintop experiences are a part of life. Trials and tribulations cause us to lean to the Lord and develop our TRUST in HIM! It is here we can choose to allow Him to develop our character! "Our character is who we are when no one but God is watching!" We can testify to the TRUTH that we walk in! You never have to go through anything alone! His Holy Spirit is our constant companion once we accept Jesus Christ into our hearts! It is important to know just how marvelous and powerful He is!

Listen a moment with your spiritual ears! “He is the image of God, the firstborn over ALL creation. For by HIM ALL THINGS were created; things in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities, ALL THINGS were created by HIM and for HIM. HE is BEFORE ALL THINGS and in HIM ALL THINGS hold together. And HE IS the HEAD of the body the CHURCH…” Colossians 1.

This is quite deep! Take some time and camp here a moment and spiritually assimilate and digest this Scripture! This is one of the most powerful Scriptures about the Divine nature of Jesus Christ! Think about it! He became the WORD wrapped in flesh for us! He overcame sin in the flesh for us! To become our only perfect flawless example! To bear witness to all spiritual principalities and earthly authorities in heaven and on earth! He has dominion over everything and is supreme over all creation! He is Omnipotent! Omniscient & Omnipresent!

One can expect much spiritual warfare when you take a stand upon the Lord’s Word! There is the wide road that leads to destruction or the Narrow Road that leads to HIM! As you believe His Word you begin to learn that it is very important to not look to the world to define your principles and morals. The world continues to adjust in order to appease mankind in general. On the other hand, religious people want you to conform rather than to be transformed by the renewing of your mind!

Step out of religion and step up to living out the powerful Word of God!

Jesus wants to have a personal intimate relationship with you every day! Christianity is a lifestyle! Yes, we worship & fellowship! True worshippers worship Him in "Spirit and in TRUTH!" When we come together for worship it is to lift up the Name of Jesus, draw others to Christ and Praise the Lord!

It is possible to learn from the life lessons of those who have come before us? It is possible to learn from, pastors, ministers, teachers, preachers, evangelist, apostles, we can even learn from a child... God can use whosoever He chooses!

We are called believers because we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior! We profess to believe in His Word… His Word is our Spiritual Sword! He has given us His Holy Spirit to open our understanding! This is why we must study His Word, embrace it and then daily apply it to our lives!

God's Word is the ultimate foundation upon which you can build a secure spiritual life!

It is not all about your denomination, non-denomination your ministry, your women’s group, your men’s group, your conferences and conventions or your issues… It is about your relationship with the LORD through Jesus Christ! He can and will make you whole! We all are under God! "He is not a respecter of persons..." The Lord provides us with His Holy Spirit who can and will lead us to ALL TRUTH! There is absolutely nothing that He is not aware of! Whenever you reach a crossroad or an obstacle in life seek out HIS WORD! Remember it is “ALIVE!” It is applicable today, tomorrow and forevermore! God can set you FREE to be the person He created you to be! Follow JESUS not man!

“I will proclaim the decree of the Lord: He said to me, You are My Son; today I become your Father. Ask of Me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.” To proclaim means that we emphatically state boldly and publicly how we feel! The Bible declares to us who Jesus Christ is! “For GOD so loved the world that HE gave His One and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall NOT PERISH but have ETERNAL LIFE.” John 3. Here we're given an amazing guarantee that we will LIVE FOREVER! The question is do you really believe?

To believe is an action! It is more than an intellectual statement. Trust resides with belief! You put your confidence in the effectiveness of your belief! Your belief and assurance is in His power to change and do all that He has said He will do as well as what will come to pass! This is why the Word is so important. This is why Praise & Worship is so very important!

We learned earlier that everything was created through Jesus Christ! He knew all about the nations and powers before they ever existed! David knew what it was like to face opposition he spent many years of preparation in the wilderness before he became King! It was through those times his trust was developed! He knew that His strength and help was in the Lord and he had a spiritually firm relationship with Him!

Here in this Psalm is the assurance that the nations was His inheritance to the end of the earth and that they belong to Him! The earth is the LORD'S yet mankind seeks to ignore HIM… God in His gracious affability has given to us from His unlimited wealth of resources and spiritual treasures more than our little finite minds can ever conceive! Once you embrace the treasure of spiritual blessings we have in the Lord’s Word you will discover you have everything that is needed for this life as well as the life to come.

Is God not worthy of Praise? “Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice trembling.” Here on earth we can learn what it means to serve the Lord. Think about it! If we plan to live with the Lord in Heaven for eternity certainly we must begin to get to know Him here on earth! This is possible as long as there is breath in our bodies! The breath of life itself is a gift from God. “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air over the livestock over all the earth and over all the creatures that are on the ground…” Genesis 2. We are reflections of God’s Glory!

Once you truly accept the Lord and repent of your sin, do not let anyone undermine who you are through Jesus Christ!

You can feel safe and secure in any circumstance whenever you do not compromise His Word. When found in error readily confess and repent! We must always be aware that any sin separates us from God. This is why we daily stay in contact through prayer and study His Word... It is in His Word we discover the destructiveness of sin and the constructive power of His Holy Spirit! This is why we all need Him as our personal Savior! In Him we have the victory! “Greater is HE that is in us than he that is in the world.” I John 4.

God has equipped each one of us with varying temperaments, abilities, talents and gifts! As His children we all have strengths and weaknesses. To the degree we realize and see them come to fruition depends on our relationship with Him! Through Him we can overcome our weaknesses as we submit to Him. As long as we are on this side of Heaven, we can grow spiritually... We are all uniquely created in His image! Our temperaments, tasks, assignments, positions may vary but the ultimate goal is or should be to bring Glory to God!

To serve means we work as His servants in whatever capacity He leads. Jesus redeemed us from the curse of original sin by overcoming sin in the flesh. He took back what the devil stole when he deceived Adam & Eve! Now that we have accepted Him as our Lord and Savior our lives now belong to HIM. When we stand on His Word, He stands with us! Our lives are totally transparent to the Lord! We have been redeemed and restored. “The man and his wife were both naked and they felt no shame.” Genesis 1.

We serve an ALL-knowing God! This is why we must consult Him daily as well as throughout the day! God does not want us to be unaware. There is much deception and manipulation about us! It is important that we become aware of the many devices and entrapments that are designed to get us off course or cause us to embrace the ways of the world. Taking personal inventory regularly is important to make sure we are on one accord with HIS WORD! God does not want us to walk in darkness! He is a God of Light!

Yes! He wants us to walk in humility! But that does not mean that we are to let others walk over us and mistreat us! It does mean that they will try and test your patience! This is all a part of the spiritual warfare… David knew what betrayal was all about! In the Word we also learn his strengths, accomplishments and weaknesses! David was a true servant-leader! When everything seems to go against us it is the perfect time to TRUST God! Your integrity and character are safe with Him! Yes, there is always room for improvement! We will see in many of the Psalms that David had to solely rely on the Lord at times. Here we can learn the power of Praise! David danced as though mad and praised the Lord so vociferously that he shed is clothing…

GOD is the ultimate Father and He is Love! A GOOD Father disciplines, molds, shapes, instructs, corrects, and protects His children. When you fear the Lord you respect His Word and become increasingly cognizant of His ways! Your conscience becomes sensitive to His Truth! As we grow spiritually, we acquire discernment!

What is happening now in this 21st century is so many are trying to alter what God has clearly told us to do and not do.

Think about this “GOD is LOVE!Many are trying to redefine what Love is? Notice how many say and think that love is giving them what they want and allowing them to do what they want even if it means going against what God has said. God is so gracious and patient with us! In His Word you will discover some amazing miracles that were wrought to save, shield, protect and preserve His people. God always leaves a remnant of His people who honor Him with their lives! Praise & Worship has always been central in the lives of the children of God!

Through His Word we can discover what happened after the world was destroyed by a flood. What happened as the children of Israel journeyed through the wilderness, what happened when they were taken into Babylonian captivity, what happened after the rule of many ungodly kings… What happened when they disobeyed His prophets! Abraham & Sarah, Isaac, Jacob & Esau, Joseph, Moses & Sarah, Rahab, Gideon, Deborah & Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets and many many more are all true stories to help us! God is worthy of our PRAISE!

As children of God, we are forever dependent upon Him! Today we are experiencing famines in the land all over the world just as they did many years ago. Catastrophic natural disasters, earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis, wars and rumors of wars! Many lives have been lost during and because of the lingering desolation and aftermath!

Divorce is at an all-time high and many families are being divided… There is a growing lack of loyalty! We are experiencing staggering economic loss of corporations, businesses, jobs, careers, homes, estates, as well as threat of both foreign and domestic terrorists! Notice the rise in senseless mass shootings. LORD HELP US! There has been an invasion upon our privacy and personal rights… Because of this in the United States some must be subject to full body scans and intense physical searches at the airport. This is a tad short of legal molestation… Some theaters even require that purses and bags are checked. What is this world coming to? God is speaking we must get better at listening! And Yes, we MUST PRAY! There is spiritual warfare all about us!

Good is being called evil and evil good. Woe to those who call evil good and GOOD evil; who put darkness for LIGHT and light for darkness…” Isaiah 5. Do not seek revenge but pray for the situation or person and ask the Lord to bring everything to the Light! When we lay aside God’s Word what is right becomes blurred… It is important to always Keep your focus on the Lord! Our inward peace is not contingent upon our circumstances; God is Faithful! He will impart His peace to you that surpasses the understanding of man in the midst of any trial! Praise Him as you go through! There is victory in the PRAISE!

JOY comes from the Lord and so does His LOVE. PEACE is not only found in the absence of conflict.

Love, Joy & Peace are ALL a part of the Fruit of His Spirit! This is why we can “REJOICE in the LORD ALWAYS. I will say it again REJOICE!” Philippians 4. In the center of the Bible there is an amazing Book called Psalms that expresses the heart and soul of believers who cry out in their despair and Joy to the Lord! Throughout this marvelous collection of Psalms, you will discover the value of PRAISE!

This Psalm concludes saying:Blessed are those who put their TRUST in Him!”

*During this journey through the Psalm I want to encourage you to personally read each entire Psalm yourself! I have only personally highlighted a few verses in each Psalm. There is an endless wealth of spiritual wisdom here to help us all grow spiritually. God has provided us with a plethora of examples to help us! He has used dedicated vessels to scribe and share quite transparently with us throughout the Psalm. They are truly marvelous "Songs of ZIon!" Taking the time to personally read and ponder each Psalm will definitely further help you grasp the plethora of mind expanding, liberating, rich spiritual wisdom and marvelous insightful concepts that each Psalm has to offer… “Let everything that has breathe PRAISE the LORD!”

What A Friend
What A Friend
Each and every moment of Elder Ogans’ “What A Friend” carries its own strength and style – creating a composite experience just bursting with musicality! The decision to begin with intimate keys and a subtly grooving pass at the familiar hymn pays off brilliantly, with the transition into fuller instrumental support at 01 landing perfectly and segueing easily into the more percussive feel at 48. Excellent work from the bass player throughout, easily finding that supportively understated tone and a prominent place in the pocket. Likewise, Elder Ogans’ relationship to the pocket is equally as impressive, keeping it tucked in through the simple revelation of the hymn’s most recognizable melody at 46 and subsequently expanding into an impressive solo sequence. Playful passing of the spotlight back and forth between keys keeps things grooving along and leaves listeners feeling refreshed and revitalized. Really stellar work!
