Saint Athanasius ~ Defender of the Truth
“If the world is against the truth, then I am against the world.”
May 2nd marks the Feast Day of St. Athanasius, Bishop and Doctor of the Catholic Church. Born in Alexandria, Egypt way back in the year 296, Athanasius was a man who spent his life devoted to the true teachings of our Catholic Faith and staunchly defended them in the face of much backlash and turmoil.
Fact is, St. Athanasius taught the very same core tenets and precepts of our Church that we as Catholics hold to be true in the year 2018, and as Catholicism grows well beyond the 1.2 billion member mark worldwide, those who vigorously opposed St. Athanasius via the false teaching of Arianism (the belief that Jesus is not truly divine) are merely an ancient, insignificant and largely forgotten footnote in history, just as those who preach the flavor-of-the-month heresy in this day and age will one day be. Proof yet again that the truth is unchanging and everlasting.
......for as the expression goes, “the truth is written on our hearts.”
