Friendship with Jesus Sticks like a Superglue
I remember the first time I used the Superglue. I did not believe how powerful this glue sticks. I try to test the effectiveness of superglue by myself. “I hold out my two pointy fingers and put a small drop of liquid on one of my finger tip and then the other. I loop my fingers and thumbs together like a chain, press them hard together, and count to 10.” After I have realized my fingers won’t come apart! I pulled at them until I thought my fingertips would come off. I will never underestimate the power of superglue again.
Did you know Jesus has superglue when it comes to our friendship with him? When we commit to follow the Lord, are promised, “He will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6).
The Bible also mentions a friend who “sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24), and who’s a better friend in this regard than Jesus?
There have been times I have felt all alone. But when I remember these verses, I know God will stick close to me with a bond even greater than the power of superglue.
Even after He had been denied by Peter three times (all on the night before being crucified!), Jesus, Now the resurrected Lord, wanted to be united with Peter and make their connection clear. John 21:15-19 tells us how it went down.
“So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Peter, “Simon Peter son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?’
“He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love you.’
“He said to him, ‘Feed My lambs.’
“He said to Him again a second time, ‘Peter, son of Jonah, do you love Me?’
“He said to Him, ‘Yes, Lord; You know that I love you.’
“He said to him,’ Tend My sheep.’
“He said to him the third time, ‘Peter, son of Jonah, do you love Me?’ Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, ‘Do you love Me?’ “And he said to Him, ‘Lord, You know all things: You know that I love you.’ “Jesus said to him,” Feed My sheep.
Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.’ This He spoke, signifying by what death he [Peter] would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, ‘Follow Me.”’
In case you’re wondering about the part that says Peter would stretch out his hands and be carried where he didn’t want to go, that was foretelling how Peter would dies for his faith. Tradition tells us that Peter ended up being crucified, and because he didn’t feel worthy to dies in the same manner as Jesus had died, he requested to be flipped over and crucified upside down.
Peter answered Jesus’ invitation to follow Him with big YES, and he lived the rest of his life bonded by much more than superglue to the One who never lets go of His friends.
Jesus wants an infinitely tight bond with you, too. Will you accept it?
Here's some verses having God in our Life as Friend.
♥ “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:12-15NKJV)
♥ “Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.” (James 4:8 NLT)
♥ “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded.” (James 4:8 AKJV)
♥ “Such wicked people are detestable to the LORD, but he offers his friendship to the godly.” (Proverbs 3:32 NLT)
♥ “When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.” (Luke 5:20 NIV)
♥ “Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1 NIV)
♥ “For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.” (Romans 5:10 NLT)
♥ “So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.” (2 Peter 3:14 NIV)
