Still A Coward In Conveying The Gospel Of Christ Jesus...

Still A Coward In Conveying The Gospel Of Christ Jesus…

As I take a mirror to my life so far and looked… I saw the few times I was truly brave: starting with the realization that one day my beloved grandmother who raised me was going to die; facing the cruel reality that the first girl (Sandra) I have ever loved did not have the same feelings for me; obeying my father to complete my driving lessons by driving a stick-shift down the meandering hills and roads of San Francisco; accepting my paternal angst… dreading the day when my daughter will bring home some boy; and being on stand-by down at what used to be Fort Ord waiting to go to the first Iraqi War and telling my fellow Army bud, Scot, to shoot me dead… instead of my suffering if Saddam hit us with Chemical weapons and I did not get my protective gear on in time - but as daunting to me as those feats were, nothing compares to standing up in public and preaching the Gospel of Christ.

Countless times, be it heading to and from work or when I attended college, I have witnessed many men and women of God carrying out the edict - The Great Commission -of the Christ to spread His Gospel to the four corners of the world, including the New York subways. I used to sit there and still do in awe of those Traditional Christian brave men and women who witnessed among the New Yorkers… knowing the ridicule that comes with the territory. I have argued among brilliant, seasoned lawyers and yet I am in dread of getting up and witnessing for Christ Jesus... even knowing intimately that Christ foretold of the mortal danger one may encounter for lovingly noising His Gospel. My mother being the supporting parent that she is says that because I write about the Christ in this forum… that I am indeed witnessing - but some how it does not feel like the same.

Speaking of ridicule, anyone can come on the trains and promote all sort of perversions, and incidentally, sometimes such perversions are advertised on the walls of the sub-way cars - but speak anything about Jesus, and one will witness the conspicuous visual vitriol by many of the patrons of the New York subways. You may ask why the need to witness about Jesus’ teachings… this is so because we as Traditional Christians believe in a literal burning hell - a topic (Hell) that Jesus himself spend more times on than any other - and what Christian would want his or her brother or sister to suffer such a fate? Believe me, if we did not believe in a literal burning hell… then we would go our merry-old-way and bother no one… but as the one God says, we, like Him, take no pleasure in a sinner who dies not knowing Christ as Lord/Savior and ends up in Hell’s fire.

We are told in the Bible, that while on the battle field, the warrior Joshua saw a giant angel wielding a sword; and, instead of Joshua quaking in his boots, he went up to the angel… asking if He were fighting for them (Israelites) or the enemy. Now I ask the Lord Jesus to give me such courage, even being bold enough to preach His Gospel on the New York subways, and, moreover, even unto the pain of death. I end by quoting from the Gospel song writer Morris Chapman who wrote:

Be bold, be strong
For the Lord your God is with you
Be bold, be strong
For the Lord your God is with you
I am not afraid
I am not dismayed
Because I'm walking in faith and victory
Come on and walk in faith and victory
For the Lord your God is with you....

Sounds like you and your mom are both on fire for the Lord. I definitely pray God's anointing, grace and power on you to do the tasks He has given you. And remember, He's not given you a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind!

She takes the tracks about the Gospel that collects from our church and pass them out to those who would accept ... and if they have time to talk... she tells them about the Lord's Salvation and how to attain It.

      Hello again Verily,

I am so interested in this reference to your mum, that she witnesses in front of the stores. How does she go about witnessing? Does she talk to people individually or is it more of a Hyde Park Corner approach? She obviously loves the Lord with a passion. Your hub has really got me thinking and feeling and wondering if I too am brave enough to go out there and witness publicly. God bless you all.

I am saying I have the time to Witness when I go back and forth to work when I am employed. As for your witnessing, you may do so as the Spirit leads you... my elderly mother Witness infront of the stores when she has the time.

Thanks for a great post. I happened upon this while doing research on preaching on the NY subway system (I wonder whether God is calling me to this as well). Would love to hear more about how God called you to this. Also, are you planning on witnessing on the subway cars or in stations? I'm a little hesitant about subway cars as it seems witnessing on subway cars is prohibited: http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/crime_prevention...

      Thanks again for this blog!

VP- I very much enjoyed reading this HUB and understand where you're coming from. Witnessing for Jesus is not an easy task. But when one truely love the Lord it sure makes it more enjoyable. If you keep writing them, I keep reading them.

      Blessings to you VP

I know the import of Saving a soul - that is why it is grating that I cannot take a little discomfort. Thanks for your support/prayers and encouragement.

      Hi there Verily!

Very happy to discover your hub .

I do believe we have all had and still do have, times when our courage fails us to witness for our Lord...and when that has happened, I feel bereft.

In the early days, when I witnessed, it was with my own testimony because I just did not know the Lords word well enough or have the confidence to do otherwise.

Now I relish witnessing for the Lord when opportunity arises or circumstances call for me to do so. (i.e at Holy Spirits bidding) Sometimes, it is welcomed, sometimes not. Sometimes a joy other times, uncomfortable. But what is a little discomfort if it means another soul coming to Jesus either then or in the future. God bless you for writing about this.....I am sure many will relate to it. Voted up and awesome.

Praise the Lord! First of all I agree with your mom. You are witnessing here. Next, I just want to say you are not alone. I just had that very conversation at work because we lost a 30 year old friend and was thinking we hadn't shared the gospel. Fortunately someone had, but guess what, it wasn't me. I felt it should have been. I am where you are and I want to do better as well.

I do want to say that I am praying that you get the boldness you desire, but keep on hubbing. You are reaching the masses this way as well. Just promote your work. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
