Striving to Rest

Updated on May 17, 2014

When was the last time you rested? I mean really rested. I'm not referring to taking a nap or a vacation...not even a day at the spa. I'm talking about actually living day by day in REST.

I used to be the kind of person who worried about a lot of things. My thoughts were flooded with insecurities and indecisiveness. I doubted my potential, feared criticism from others, and unconsciously sought out the approval from others. Though I was nice and had some happy moments, I wasn't experiencing joy and peace on a regular basis.

My story may be different from others, but many people long to find this rest.

When we rest in God, we encounter serenity even when things are not perfect.

I believe that resting is the ultimate contentment. When I rest, I become like a child who lays in my Father's arms without any worry because I know that in His care is the best place in the world. Despite what is going on around me, and despite my shortcomings, I am taken care of.

I don't have to be afraid because perfect love casts out fear. When I don't understand, I trust in the Lord with all my heart and He leads the way. No need to worry about stuff... All things are possible with God. And if I keep my mind on Him, He will keep me in perfect peace. If I start to feel insecure, my security is in His love for me and His work on the cross.

Rest in His Love, in His Faithfulness, in His Salvation & in His Care

Scriptures on Rest

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matthew 11: 28-30

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trust in You. Isaiah 26:3

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path. Proverbs 3:5-6

A lovely, peaceful hub. It's so important to take time from the busyness of life and truly rest in the Lord. Thank you for the reminder.
