Tavis Smiley: A Christian Liar

Updated on March 24, 2012
Most gruesome and painful
Most gruesome and painful

It has taken a few reminders to hunt this exchange down, but once it has been brought to light, I will expose the lies destroying the faith that built this nation and that which edifies our Creator. Tavis Smiley, commentator for PBS, a Juan Williams counterpart (well used to be), but a confessed Christian? Not if his words have anything to do with it. I have provided a video exchange of Tavis Smiley with Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Tavis is a quintessential leftist, and someone for whom I never raise an eye brow. This time it is different, this time his statements must be posted, and played as often as it takes to wake America up. The wolves are alive and devouring the Christian nation. The false prophets are committing deeds that will forever mare the gullible, and excite the ignorant. Tavis Smiley is a “Christian Liar.”

Ayaan Hirsi Ali began her ascension as an important writer by her endeavor to escape Sharia law, growing up in Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Kenya. Eventually she escaped a detested arranged marriage by fleeing to the Netherlands. In secular Europe she applied herself to Western studies, attending collage and taking up any position she could learn from. Her notoriety was given birth to by the murder of Theo Van Gough with whom she was making a movie about Islam called “Submission.” Ayaan’s book “Infidel” is a chilling memoir of her childhood, growing up in a home where her father practiced polygamy, and she was forced through the brutal ritual of Islamic clitoridectomy. I have read this book, and let me say there are things you cannot remove from your memory. Ayaan is and has been triumphant in her ability to self educate, become a renowned commentator and for her contributions to an American think tank. Please pick up a copy if you can brave the sobering details and celebrate the joyous vindications.

Below is the focal point I want you to absorb from this interview;

“Ali: Okay, I think first and foremost what we have to acknowledge is we're not going to get a monster with horns, blue in the face, looking like a dragon called jihad coming in and terrorizing us. The people who are engaged in terrorist activities look like you and me. They look like everybody else here.

Major Nidal Hasan, the military guy who in November shot 13 of his colleagues and injured 32, he's going to be on trial pretty soon, I think this week, the young man, Faisal Shahzad, in Times Square who tried to blow innocent people that he doesn't know up, these guys are acting on conviction. Somehow, the idea got into their minds that to kill other people is a great thing to do and that they would be rewarded in the hereafter.

Tavis: But Christians do that every single day in this country.

Ali: Do they blow people up (unintelligible)?

Tavis: Yes. Oh, Christians, every day, people walk into post offices, they walk into schools, that's what Columbine is - I could do this all day long. There are so many more examples of Christians - and I happen to be a Christian. That's back to this notion of your idealizing Christianity in my mind, to my read. There are so many more examples, Ayaan, of Christians who do that than you could ever give me examples of Muslims who have done that inside this country, where you live and work.”

Really? He could do this all day folks…wait a minute, he didn’t even give one legitimate example because he has none. Columbine was the only partial response he started to give, but like the many idiotic lying anti-Christians before him, he realized mid sentence any illicit reference might dock his viewer ship. “So Mr. Smiley, more Christian’s walk in to schools everyday to blow themselves up than any examples in existence from behind the Islamic curtain?”

Interesting, what do you think? As a Christian who knows what my Lord commands of me, I know there is nothing but the most rancid, nostril burning smell of sulfur if any of his flock were to kill in the name of Christ. How is Tavis not to be treated as anything other than a false prophet, destroying the integrity of Christian faith before a broadcast audience? To you my many wonderful Christian professors, pastors and parishioners, please set me straight. Tavis Smiley, with the straightest of faces I have ever seen, proclaimed on public television to be a Christian, and proceeded to spew the biggest lie promulgated about Christians in quite some time. Christian’s in America, everyday are blowing them selves up by the gaggle load. Well, given the over zealous nature of mainstream media, I would figure that to be top of the hour news everyday. Interesting how that isn’t the case, it must be the Jew’s who are using the endless funding from Zion to cover up our tracks. Conspiracy theorists everywhere get out our blackberries and start investigating!

For the rest of the normal religious crowed, Jews, Muslims, and Christians, please open your eyes, these are the days Jeremiah, Isaiah and John spoke of. Time is fleeting…I pray you are right with the Good and ever Righteous Lord. God Bless all you who follow the tenets set forth by Christ Jesus.

      Hello HB,

Thank you for your grace filled response. Your prayer is an important prayer, you provide a service to benefit God’s people and forward his kingdom. I feel the same way about what I do, expose, uncover, bring to light that which wants to eliminate us from being who we are. There is no tolerance of one group or another if our value systems are not compatible. God bless you and the compassion you bring to us all.

Very well written page, interesting and full of truth.

The bible tells us how to know those that are of God, by there love, there fruits.

Satan is a liar and those that follow deception and lies have satan as there father/master.

We/I continue to pray for God to forgive the people's sins and pull them out of destruction-this goes for Muslims,Christians,Jews-all worldwide and special focus on those that I have been called to minister to in Jesus name.Ask God to continue to strengthen us so we do not come into any temptation in Jesus name.

It is time for the Body of Christ to rise and believe, ask & seek God to strengthen us, sustain us, and cause us to walk in His power with His words to set the captives free. It is all about Jesus-The love of God!!

Hi TPC, thanks for reading and leaving me good feedback. You are new to reading me so it makes sense you would feel that way. I've heard Karen give talks but I am not familiar with this book. I will look into it, thank you. Please read my hub Seriously selfishly Me. If you still think I can not see the plank, let's explore that. Thank you for the challenge.

True, ever read 'Battle For God' by Karen Armstrong.

But you seem to show you may be guilty in your criticism of Tavis Smiley as well. A case of 'removing the speck while ignoring the plank'. . .

Hi SGFR, thank you for the comment. Her book is a must read, though it is difficult to stay objective when we see the Islam she was immersed in. Many hate her for what she now represents (a modernized Western woman). There are many good people in all religions, I have to remember that it is evil in hearts that highjack what are supposed to be Godly ways. Thanks again.

Porschadoxus, you left a very good example of a parrot looking for a cracker. Those in the spot light have little clue that their words and actions define them, not their talking points. Thank you for contributing to the discussion. I hope to see more like them.

I'm reminded of vice-president Gore (I believe it was he) who was trying to sound Christian when he slipped in a reference to John 16:3. Of course, he meant John 3:16. What's really revealing is that John 16:3 says "These things they will do because they have not known the Father or Me."

Thank you brother for coming by to add valuable insight. I have seen many of your quality remarks elsewhere and it pleases me to see you here. You are correct in your conclusion of the puppet and puppeteer, we should all pray for him. Thank you for these comments. God Bless you and your awesome writing.

We will always hear those who run their mouth without engaging brain. More to the point, as Pastor Washington said, there are those who need to provide a solid foundation to what they say. Unsubstantiated allegations and disinformation is what this world lives on, so is it any wonder they operate on a foundation of deceit and confusion?

God is not the author of confusion, so rather than debate the issue, all we need do is understand the symptom and we have the cause. Satan.

      Hi Pastor,

I appreciate you input, in Mr. Smiley’s case, you can make a bad analogy and apologize for it, he didn’t apologize, and he will not rescind his outlandish statement. We as Christians have a rough history of conversion and what we did during the crusades was absolutely destructive. We must call each other out when were wrong. Tavis has a history of disagreeable remarks, this one must not stand. Thank you sister for reading and commenting. God Bless.

It appears that Travis Smiley may have made an analogy without proper foundation. In any case, I would encourage him and all of us to regularly engage in self-examination to be sure we are in the faith.

Love, peace and hope in Him,

      Forever His

      Dear Y,

You cannot stay silent where justice must me sung, as you so purposefully made your point. As a group of believers, we are stronger as strands bound together, and quite weak as a single chord. Thank you for your input sister. God Bless.

I turned away before, this is my 4th visit to this hub.

Let the 'debators' have this, I told myself.

Leave this to bigger minds than my own, I said.

Give Mr. Smiley the benefit....perhaps, he regrets his words......

The detail, that I do not see being pointed out, is this one........

Terrorists, in their many acts, cry out, praising Allah as they enter into their attacts.

Those who have gone "postal", opened gunfire at schools, malls, grocercy stores, in the streets, etc, HAVE NOT announced their act in God's Name. They do not claim they were 'commanded' to do such a thing.

I am aware of false teachers, wolves in sheep's clothing......that is why I would advise anyone to read the words of God for themself, trusting only valued confidents for discussion.

      Sir Dent,

Thank you for taking the time to read this update and contribute valuable scripture to this conversation. Each time I watch the exchange, I am just amazed by the cavalier attitude a public funded station shows to what still is (maybe not for long) a Christian nation. The good to come from this is God’s timely reminder of who we are and what we need to look for. Thank you brother, keep protecting yourself and others.

Thank you for stopping by to be reminded of our duty for diligence. With the wonderful collection of writers on Hubpages, we can collectively lift Christ’s name and uncover the falsehoods peddled. Thank you and God Bless

You are right, this should not be so shocking for the Lord had forewarned us, but I am shaken by how easy it passes for truth. Thank you for taking the time to read this article, may God give you ample reserve. God Bless.

      Judah’s Daughter,

Thank you again for the link, I hope there are others prepared to comb the lies and turn ears to truth. Thanks again sister.

I am glad you brought this to light. There certainly are many wolves in sheep's clothing roaming about in the USA. They are leading people astray and have become a reproach to God Himself.

Mat 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

Mat 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

Notice how these wolves confess Jesus to be the Christ. By confessing this, they then start their deception.

Thumbs up for sure and certainly a sobering hub.

      Hello Todd,

Thank you for being the first to comment on this piece. I do not disagree with your statement about Christian’s saying one thing and doing another. I do not see this in quite the same light though, and it is difficult for me to come out so strong, openly accusing a supposed Christian as a bold faced liar. I think you can get a sense of the kind of Christian I respect. I claim to be a Christian, but I easily claim my constant shortcomings, and willingness to better myself.

I am not a fan of the Bush’s for several reasons, but that is neither here nor that at the moment, given I really respect Reagan, and you may have a 100 quibbles about him. I look at what is an obvious detraction. Fabricating in the name of Christ is so much worse than living in your own sin, hurting your relationship with God. Fabricating in the name of Christ hurts the Christian faith, the world over. That is what this piece is flushing out. I thank you for your contributions and challenges; you have been very respectful in your differences, which I really respect.

      Judah’s Daughter,

I didn’t hear about the Catholic Church yet, I will research that too. You are very right sister, it is evermore present the times we are living in, knowing who is preaching the truth, and who is destroying heavenly relationships. We must be vigilant for one another, putting out in the open the truth and condemning the lies, especially when they are promulgated in God’s name. Your work is dear and necessary; please correct me when you see that I may be off my rocker. Thank you sister, God Bless.

You are quite right, now is the time for our voices to be unanimous. Now is the time for all the houses of God to stand together against the coming storm of persecution. As this nation gives completely over to drugs and sexual promiscuity, we must stand above the fray, and quickly lift up those that fall. I pity Mr. Smiley, I need to pray for him more, I believe he is already too blind with his own power to see the damage he leaves in tow. Thank you sister, God Bless.

I agree with Judah's Daughter. The insanity of the secular society will become more and more evident as the staunch believers become more and more sound in their thoughts and words and actions. The harvest will continue to expose and make evident the difference betwixt the believer and the world.

I think we're going to start wondering if we're insane or the world is going insane....Some of the hubs I've read just this week are revealing atrocities I never imagined were happening ~ the Catholic leaders are propogating Israel ceasing to exist as a nation ~ and here's yet another thing I'm shaking my head about...

It's becoming more evident how important it is to know that the Holy Spirit fills us with love, power and A SOUND MIND in these last days, brother. Stay SANE and expose the INSANE. God bless you!!!

So I see that you do, in fact, disapprove of those who claim to be Christian, and then practice and preach very different ideals.

So very often in my own life I'm reminded of the Gandhi quote, where he says, "I like your Christ! I do not like your Christians, they are so unlike your Christ!"

Now, it's a given that everyone who tries to follow in the footsteps of Jesus of Nazareth will fail time and again-but to continuously promote war, like the Bush boys did. . . . .you aren't a Christian when you do those things.
