The 23rd Psalm, paraphrased

Updated on July 26, 2015

Truth From the Holy Scriptures

The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall not remain in lack, for He shall supply what I need. He allows me to rest in lush pastures when I am filled and content. He leads me beside quiet waters where I may satisfy my thirst in peace.

He restores my soul and gives me perpetual strength for my tasks. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His Holy name's sake. He is responsible for me, for I am submitted to His watchcare.

Even though I stumble through the vally of deep darkness or death, I shall fear no evil, for my Shepherd is with me. His protection and discipline do reassure me, for His staff and rod are His mercy and grace upon me.

My Shepherd prepares a festive banquet for me in the mocking presence of my enemies - my soul is fed though they are in hunger. My Shepherd anoints my head with healing oil at eve's light, soothing wounds of my daily sojourn in the fields.

My provided cup overflows, and this abundance I am able to share with others. Surely His goodness and lovingkindness will bless me all my mortal days, because I follow Him.

I am traveling to dwell in the majestic house of my Redeemer Guide, when this journey is completed, and I shall live with Him forevermore!

A modern rendition of The Shepherd. You are the little lamb.

This is very good. Psalm is a book in the bible that always has something I love. Even when I was a child Psalm was my favorite. My favorite is still Psalm 100.

Thank you for the way you wrote Psalm 23, it was beautiful.

I like this a lot because it shows that the words of David did reach your soul and you understood his prayer and made it your own. Lovely!

This is how I read scripture. I let God paraphrase for me all the time. He also personalizes it for me. "If God be for Fred, who can be against Fred. Who can separate Fred from the love of Christ?" KInda like when you wrote "I will fear no evil, for MY Shepherd is with me. LOve how you did this!

When I was a child in public school in the USA, the 23rd psalm was one of the morning readings. I had memorized it before I was seven years old, and that's a long time ago. The words from the King James version are still implanted in my brain. I thought of them as I read your words.

Thank you for bringing back a cherished memory and a cherished memorization. Your inspiring paraphrasing gives me much to think about.

I am blessed by the way you creatively paraphrased a favorite and endearing psalm. In fact, you have amplified it's meaning and made it reader friendly - lush pastures, perpetual strength, healing oil, majestic house, etc. These are word pictures that aid us in understanding and appreciating the manifold goodness of God our Good Shepherd.
