What's Holding You Back?

Imagine if you will, you have a dream or a destination you are trying to arrive at and suddenly you are blindfolded and not able to see where you were going and the only thing leading you or guiding you was a voice you could hear and understand clearly. The voice guides you and leads you when you are confronted with an obstacle. The voice sometimes would not speak, but would lead you in the direction where you were meant to go. If you were a little off course, which often happens when you are blindfolded, the voice would give you direction to get you back on course. The only thing you trust is that voice or a little nudge to go boldly in the direction of your dreams or the destination you are seeking.

This is what I see as walking by faith and not by sight, because we have this dream and destination we desire to get too. We may even see ourselves there, but we are afraid to move in that direction because of fear, and this fear is fear of the unknown.

Walk By Faith

Martin Luther King said and I quote “Faith is taking the next step even when you can’t see the whole staircase”

I can remember being a child and finding it fun to do things blindfolded and I remember doing a blindfold experiment with my cousin and a staircase. I can remember us taking turns and she would place the blindfold on me and then run up to the top of the steps and I would wait at the bottom of the staircase for her direction. The mission set before me, was get to the top of the staircase, but I could not use the handrail or the wall and her voice would be my only guide. It was scary, but it was fun because although I knew she was at the top and I would make it there, the challenge was taking the first step and then the steps after that to get to the top.

When you first start, you may begin walking slowly, kicking your feet to find the base of the staircase and the first step. Maybe instead of walking you decided to crawl, so you can use your hands instead of your feet to find the base and first step. Whatever method you used to approach the first step, you find it and this is the first obstacle you had to overcome. As you begin your ascent to the top of the stairs there may be other obstacles you face on your way up, but your will, determination and your guides voice are what’s leading you to complete the mission. While making your way up the staircase, you may approach the next stair too closely and hit your toe and maybe this caused you some pain or left a scar. Maybe you fell, because you were trying to approach the next stair a little too fast. There may be several things that happened with your blindfold experiment, but after all the mistakes, bumps, bruises, failures, crying, fear, worry, doubt and anything else you may have experienced, you eventually made it to the top of the staircase. After you remove your blindfold, you see your cousin or whomever you played with, and they have a big smile on their face and you get a big hug for accomplishing the task you set for yourself.

Dream Big!

Everybody Dies, but Not Everybody Lives

Don't Let Your Dreams Die

This is how I view life and having a dream or a vision which you are destined to achieve and although you want it with everything in you, you are terrified of going after it because fear of failure and the unknown. In life, you may have experienced broken relationships, suffered abuse at the hands of others, failed at a business venture, gone to jail, been hurt, experienced rejection or even been abandoned. No matter what has happened to you in your past I believe these things happened to build up your strength and your faith and to know, if you can endure these things you can get through anything. Sometimes you may want to give up and throw in the towel when these things come, but you should believe in yourself and in your dream so much that it calls out to you on a deeper level. Some of us choose to ignore this calling and unfortunately without realizing it, it will begin to literally and figuratively eat us alive.

“If your dreams do not scare you then they are not big enough” – Unknown

That’s right your dreams should be so big they scare the living daylights out of you, but this fear should cause you to run toward your dreams and not away from them. The only way to conquer your fear is through faith, and the fear should challenge, excite and propel you into manifesting your dreams. I’ve heard so many people say: “you must get uncomfortable to get comfortable” or “your greatest blessings are right outside of your comfort zone.” Faith is an uncomfortable place, because it means you don’t know everything and this is an issue for many of us. We simply cannot walk by faith, because we feel we need to know everything instead of trusting and this feeling is uncomfortable. Unfortunately, your dreams will continue to knock on the door of fear until you decide to open the door with faith. The knocking will continue and you can try to silence it, but it will only become louder. If you continue to silence and ignore this knocking you will never realize your full potential or bless others with your gift and you will die with your dream buried inside of you.

There is another quote I love that says: “If you don’t build your dreams someone else will hire you to build theirs.” The blindfold experiment is the scariest thing you will ever do in your life, because it will test your will, your determination, and your faith. There will be many people who think you are crazy for pursuing your dreams and there will be plenty people who will doubt what you say and will talk about you. Your dreams are supposed to scare you, but want them so bad you don’t care what happens. Even when you can’t see the whole staircase take that first step anyway and the more steps you take the more the staircase will begin to come into visibility. There is no better feeling than being able to live out your dreams and to pursue your passions. What can I say I love quotes and there is one that says: “If you follow your passion you will never work a day in your life.” I love this quote because when you are doing what your passionate about and something that makes your heart beat, it is not work. Although you may get paid for the service you provide, you get to enjoy every minute of it while you are doing it because it is something you love. When you love something, it comes natural, easy and without effort because it is your passion and you love doing it and you cannot picture yourself not doing it. Take a leap of faith and build your wings on the way down, the only way to have what you desire is to go after it. If you are afraid to fly then you never will and with anything you desire to have it takes practice, patience, and failure. Let us be like that little child again and place a metaphorical blindfold over our eyes and let’s go within and listen to that still small voice and let our divine universal source push us into our purpose.

Whether you believe in God or you choose to call this universal life force something else, is your choice. My point is let’s walk by faith and not by sight, let us put our dreams, goals, and visions out into the universe and place the blindfold upon our eyes and trust we will always be guided in the right direction. The blessing comes when we are ready to give up, so no matter how many times you feel like you have failed, continue until you reached your desired destination and your dream is manifested.
