Anan is an online blogger and private consultant since 2009 in the areas of relationships and interfaith spirituality.

Author's note:

This article explores the connections, coincidences and beliefs linked to the Bible's Book of Revelations and the end of days. Is the Author's opinion that this book in particular, a social commentary about the local events in that area, at that time in history? All the references to the events and occurrences that are mentioned in this article, are factual and by that, reported and broadcast in the press and electronic media.

Now, as believers, we are always on the look out for signs from scripture. These are the events that some are linked to the infamous Book of Revelations.

Evidence...?

The waiting game...

Ever since the Bible became the subject of study, the Book of Revelations has haunted many of the faithful. It was believed that the author of this book was John of Patmos, during the reign of Nero. Other scholars may argue that in actuality there were 3 authors with very different styles.

So the source of the compilation is up for debate. And so is their motive. Even though, aside from the psalms, is one of the most read books of the Bible. Especially people that have no interest in the Holy Book as a whole.

We have been searching for the signs described in the Book of Revelations. Taking it's meant as a literal account of what is about to befall on human kind.

  • The seven signs
  • The four Horseman

The Seven Seals

The Seven Seals

One of the most intriguing aspects of this book, is the account of the opening of the seven seals. For those that are familiar with this verse, is the start of the thickening of the plot. As if in a suspense movie, Each seal exposes a new calamity for the world.

The book of Revelation is filled with symbolism, and is supposed to portray how God plans to deliver his wrath and answer the martyr's pleas.

Because of this extraordinary symbolism, many believers are on edge because of the actual repercussions of said actions. As a believer is easy to get lost in the poetry of scripture, but is there for our study and scrutiny. Throughout history, humankind has been plagued by several disasters and "plagues". This has been interpreted as God's wrath or due punishment to those that sin.

A hundred years ago a natural disaster, or outbreak in a specific location, would be interpreted as punishment. Now, as we are pulled close together with the World Wide WEB and the mass media communications, is almost impossible to ignore the occurrences and tragedies across the globe. That is one of the reasons a growing number of people, believers and non-believers alike, are certain that these are the end of days. The more we know about natural disasters and technology, the more nervous we get.

Why now?

For the past 3 years, the media and conspiracy theorists have encountered a common ground. The 2012 End of Days Mayan Prophesy. Is common knowledge nowadays, that December 21, 2012, culminates the famous Mayan calendar. This has grown into mass hysteria, and the acceptance of the public that this is the day the world will suffer a catastrophic event. Scientists, clergy, politicians and reputable individuals have been entertaining this idea for quite a while. There are a few clues that assure them that this is indeed, the biblical Apocalyptic event described in the Book of Revelations.

As if on cue, the first 100 days of 2011, where devastating for many countries all over the world. A swarm of earthquakes, tsunamis, fires, tornadoes, diseases, dead stock, and unexplained death in the sea life, are just the starting point feeding these fears of the end of days.

2011

Coincidence?

Every day there is a natural occurrence that is easily explained. But why are people so afraid?

More and more people are making the connection to the dire predictions of the book of revelations. Needless to say the evidence is overwhelming. The world is going through a huge change. In this day and age, we can corroborate how our planet is changing, meaning the earth cycles is upon us. Solar flares , Teutonic plates shifting, and how the earth magnetism is shifting.

Animal deaths

In 2011 the world came to a halt when wildlife around the world died suddenly. Scary, isn't it. If indeed this was an isolated incident, the pattern would have been impossible to be established.

Thousands of birds in 5 states, Italy and Sweden
Millions of fish in 3 states, Brazil and New Zealand
40,000+ devil crabs in the United Kingdom

Earthquakes

Clusters of devastating earthquakes have plagued the planet in the last 24 months. Everyone remembers the Japan earthquake or the Christchurch tragedy in New Zealand. Christchurch has had over 1,000 earthquakes in 2011.

The shifting of the tectonic plates along the faults is a daily occurrence. Not that this is rare, but it is on the rise.

This is all over the media... Viewer discretion is advised

Are we living in the Last Days?

See results

Are these the signs of the impending apocalypse?

No one knows. The difference between now and before, is quite simple. Now we have the technology and the means to witness these occurrences live.

So of course that people are going to weigh down the bible and the natural disasters. Knowledge is indeed power. And this generation is blessed with all sorts of knowledge. Having said that, is also the beginning of mass hysteria.

There are a couple of "coincidences" that echoes the bible. For example, the final war between God and Satan. The mark of the beast (bar code system), and the second coming. These events are marked by war, hatred, famine, and instability in the governments.

Many are scared, others are convinced that this is the end of times. But everyone can agree, these are difficult times and whether you believe or not, no one knows what tomorrow will bring. Only God know's when and how he will deliver his children. Are you prepared?

Very, very touching and important. The End times are soooo here. Sadly, some people laugh when you tell them. I'm glad you wrote this.

True, no one knows when Jesus will come as Dustin wrote above, but the time is so close. I can't believe what is happening in the world now. I no longer watch the News, cos I don't want any negative thoughts.

      Stay Blessed.

      Welcome ginjill !

" In the same way, I tell you that there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who don't need to repent."- Luke 15:7

Remember, that God's Kingdom is inside you, and all around you, not in buildings of wood and stone...

So he never left you, nor did you. Don't worry for his kingdom is safe inside our heart. I am so happy that you have found your way back to what makes you happy. Blessed are those that have the chance to come back, to pray for those that lost their way. Blessings

      Thank you for sharing this.

Revelation has intrigued me since i was a child. One i have always handle carefully with much reverence. Perhaps there is this word 'holy fear'.

After 18years of being a prodigal.. I have returned to church again last year (I stopped church association since pre teen).

      Thank you my friend teaches;

I really try to put everything into perspective. It escaped my attention when they first started to happen, then a friend asked me if I had noticed the pattern in the events leading to 2012 prophesy. I did a little searching and this was the result. Believe you me, this is just the tip of the iceberg. But I am very careful when talking about the

bible. But for some reason is coming up everywhere I look. Blessings.

You've tackled a weighty subject with much clarity, Ananceleste. As a believer in Christ, I long for and look forward eagerly to His return! My younger son and I have had many conversations on this very topic, and more so given the very incidents you have mentioned. I also believe that indeed NO ONE knows "the day or hour, not even the Son"...only God Himself knows the very moment when He will grant the Son permission to return for His Bride. This said, we should be living a life that glorifies Him and shines the light of Christ to a lost and dying world. It can be scary to see the signs of "the birth pangs" before His glorious appearing, but we have the inner Peace and Joy that only He can give that reminds us of His reassurance to "Fear not" because He said He would never leave us nor forsake us. We can face the future confident that whatever happens He IS in control! Thank you for your hub on the Book of Revelation...very interesting and a good reminder to be ready for His return.

Thank you guys for taking the time to drop by. Is hard to ignore all this while is being fed into our conscious brain daily. I am afraid for those that

are going crazy because of it. Not every one is remaining calm, and some may do very stupid things thinking, that this is it. Even those that claim to be atheists are freaking out. I hope... I just hope that... well

      Let it be God's will...

the earth has gone through it's cycles for hundreds if not thousands of years. the earthquakes in Chile and Japan have thrown the earth off of it's balance. the solar flares will reach it's full cycle at the end of this year, a ccle which happens every milleneum. the mayans were astrologers and knew more about the cycles of the earth than present day man.

December 21, 2012 approaches. what will happen , maybe nothing , maybe the end of modern civilization as we know it. Even if only the we lose the electrical grid , man will be thrown back into the dark ages. the end of life, i don't think so, the bible also says " Earth without end " it does not say man without end. the timespan of man on this earth is a dot on a piece of paper compared to the life of the earth.

Nice work, and well researched and written as usual. You really do quality work, Anan, and so many people are blessed by it. Thank you for raising this significant question. I personally do not think we are in any kind of position to speak about the end of days. I think there are plenty of things in scripture that warn us against being too speculative about what is known as the apocalypse. I do think these days we live in are unlike any we have seen in my lifetime. I was born in 1968 and lived through the cold war, etc. This year, and many of the stories around it, seems as big if not bigger than the cold war years/stories on a merely secular level. I have no desire to speculate about the end of days, although I respect those that do. I do think the standoff between Iran, Israel, and the US puts the world in a position that is very precarious position. While N. American debates if it is going to eat chik fil a today or not, uraniuam is being enriched this moment in Iran. Israel's response to Iran is hard to predict, but it is quite clear that in the event that Israel and Iran should begin to exchange blows over the nuke issue, the US will get pulled in (and the global econonmy will crash, for sure). These are the most frightening times I've seen in my lifetime. N. America worries about 6 dollar gas and the Obama/Romney deal. N. America is very up in arms about chik fil a and in I do know there are good reasons for that. That being said, I think there is a pot simmering in the middle east, and it is about the most dangerous stew I have seen brewing in my brief lifetime. Do I know what to do? Not a clue. Here's how I see it: There is, metaphorically speaking, a category five hurricane coming that all agree will make landfall at some point. When and where it makes landfall is up for debate, and how far inland (how much destructiion it brings) it will come is not clear. It is clear that the storm is a category 5 and that it will make landfall. It seems wise to be poised for such landfall. I do see that neither political party is making substantial progress about bracing the nation for such a "landfuall." That being said, I do think families and communities can and should do what the can do to brace themselves for the storm that is coming one way or the other. I'll hold off about saying "end is near." I'll keep saying "things are going to get a lot worse before they get better", however. In this response, I'm not endorsing Iran, Israel, or the US and their respective policies. I'm simply saying that the policies of these nations alone (not to mention those of China, Russia, Syria, S. Aradia, India, Pakistan, and many others) are pushing us to a much underreported brink. My hope is for peace for all. "Peace for all" however, is not my expectation, and that really really really bothers me..... Nice work, my friend. Thanks for your investment in readers like me. I'm a better person as a result of reading your works. Peace be with you, my friend. Nick

Not even Jesus knows the time of his arrival lol (Mat 24:36), so maybe if everyone was sure they didn't know all at the same time he will come back; as if, there was always that one person who thought today was the day.

I absolutely love revelations tho, so much imagery and horror!
