The Different Types of Ghosts

Updated on February 26, 2017

Ghosts – The Different Types

People over the history of time and separate geographical locations have seen what could be considered ghosts in their many different forms. Sometimes they appear as mere shadows and sometimes you see them in full body apparition. Many times you don’t visually see ghosts at all. They can make their presence known by movement, sounds and scientific recordings. Sometimes you just simply feel them and while you may consider that a paranormal experience, even though you know it’s real, there is no way to prove it without some sort of scientific evidence.

While there are different types of entities, there are also varying definitions of exactly what they are. I use the word entity because not all of these entities are human. The word ghosts usually relates to a human spirit that has not passed onto the next plain. All living creatures have souls.

Then there are of course, the demonic entities, which I am not sure exist, but some Paranormal professionals will swear on their existence. The most common definition of a demon is the Christian belief that they are fallen angels banished by God from heaven to Hell who then work for Satan. They can also be defined as being malevolent spirits. Since I do not believe in demons in the normal concept, I believe they are mistaken for the spirits of people who tend to be violent or malicious. Unfortunately no one, other than the entities themselves is aware of their manifesting capabilities. Therefore it is rational to think that an intelligent entity can chose to reveal itself in horrific form appearing to someone as a demon. Then again, there may actually be demons. I try to keep an open mind.

Animal Manifestation

It makes sense that our animals who have been companions to us may not pass on to the other plain and are going to come back to the place where they were the most comfortable. Because animals have souls, they are just as likely as a human to become a ghost.

Black Mist or Mass

There is also red mist. Mists of colors that are not white or light or bright are usually considered to be more malevolent entities. They can quickly appear and then just as quickly disappear.

Child & Infant Ghosts

Young souls that have had their life cut off too quickly tend to remain on this realm in search of their family or because they’re not sure how to pass on. The cries of a dead baby are eerie and sad, but they have been recorded.

Full Body Manifestations

Also known as full body apparitions, this is every ghost hunters dream to capture on film. Getting a photograph of one is extremely rare. A full body Apparition is a ghost that appears to be well defined and detailed from head to foot, they may move, waver in color and intensity, usually they are transparent or translucent and may possibly interact with you.

Interactive Ghosts

An interactive Ghost is considered an intelligent entity. They can interact with you by speaking to you; their voices are usually discovered on recording devices, however occasionally they can be heard with human ears. They are also capable of moving objects when asked to. They are aware of your presence and will interact with you if they so desire.

Non-Human Ghosts

These could be the ghosts of animals or demonic entities or any other such spirits that we cannot identify as human. If seen, they will not appear to be human and may even be aggressive.

Non-Interactive Ghosts or the Replay Ghosts

Also known as residual ghosts, these entities seem to do the same activity at the same time of day or year in a particular schedule. They will not respond to you or interact with you, it is as if they are not aware they are dead and will continue to go through the motions.

Orbs

These are energy balls of light and are usually white in color, although different colors can occur as well. Orbs are associated with ghosts, because a ghost is energy and in many haunted locations even if you don’t get the prize of a full apparition in a photograph, you’re very likely to find orbs. Orbs are round and come in many different sizes and levels of brightness.

Some parapsychologists dismiss orbs as dust particles, insects or light reflected from shiny surfaces. Others consider them inconclusive in proving the paranormal. I have found that in areas such as cemeteries, there tend to be a lot of orbs and consider them minor but definite evidence of the paranormal.

The Poltergeist

The word Poltergeist is German and means noisy ghost. This is the type of ghost that everyone has heard about, yet few who have actually encountered one. While not all Poltergeists are violent, some of them can be. These ghosts can move things, lift them, toss them. They can also actually touch you to where you can feel it without a doubt. Poltergeists have been known to attack people.

The violent Poltergeist entity tends to seek out one person for reasons unknown. Their targets are often young children or those who are experiencing puberty. Some Parapsychologists believe that this is because there is so much energy to use in those particular age groups.

A Poltergeist entity is different in that before they have passed, they may have been very peaceful people with friendly souls. When they feel they have been wronged or died violently, they in fact become violent themselves. Their violence is not always intentional; sometimes it is used to gain attention, to basically help them right the wrongs that have occurred to them.

I do not recommend hunting a known Poltergeist entity without professional help or knowledge. If you are a bit sensitive to the paranormal, they can sense it and may seek you out. Whether or not they’re looking for help, this is a burden that you don’t want following you home and unless you are an experienced Parapsychologist, you are too inexperienced to cope with it.

Shadow People

Sometimes these entities are caught out of the corner of your eye and when you turn to look at them, they have disappeared. Shadow people are also a Native American concept and are said to be the silhouette of a person; there are no defining features such as faces or anything else to identify their appearance, just a dark shape or shadow in human or animal form.

I'll have to check it out. Coincidentally, I wrote a book available on Amazon called, "Spiritual Protection: For those who find themselves in dark places" and it is helpful for ghost hunters. Just in case you run into some dark entities. The Kindle version is only .99 because I'd like to make it available to anyone who needs it. http://amzn.to/2lU54rY
