The Greatest Enigma

Updated on July 9, 2013

There he sits on the side of the road; his hat is cocked to one side and his matted, long gray hair drapes down upon his collar. There is an odor, a smell of cat urine and whiskey emancipating from his direction. The vehicles honk and people yell vulgarities at this "oddball" holding a sign that says Jesus is coming. As I walked hurriedly past this man, I see the tears rolling down his cheeks. I could not walk any further as if a hand had grabbed me. I felt my feet carrying me towards the odor and my stomach gave way. At that moment the burrito I had just had for lunch mad its way up my esophagus and proceeded to splatter the sidewalk directly in front of this man. At that very moment, the world became a very bright place.

10 Years Prior

Colton was a lucky man. His life had always been full of life, love and money. All through school he was the life of the party; every cheerleader wanted him. Colton was quarterback of the high school football team. He was a star in track and field and had been offered a scholarship to M.I.T. as his grades were far above the best students.

The crash was fatal. The woman and two girls were killed instantly when the semi slid sideways into their lane. Two of them were decapitated. It was a horrible accident scene.

Colton's Father looked at his son with that cold steel look he had acquired just after the funeral. He held the shotgun to his mouth and pulled the trigger.

The Least

As I talked with him, he told me of God and Jesus. He told me his story. He had been on a highway mission for years. Since his whole family had died. He told me he had run from a State hospital and while hitch-hiking, had Jesus speak to him one night as he camped in the woods just beyond a truck stop.

The waitress laid the breakfast ticket on the table. I snatched it quickly as to not in anyway embarrass the man across the booth from me. It was so odd, but when I first met him, he smelled so bad that I actually puked. Now,I smelled a sweet aroma of roses and lavender mixed in the most perfect way. I realized I didn't know his name and asked. I told him my name and he replied with an outstretched hand and a resounding,"Colton". As he shook my hand, he slowed and pulled me close; "You are blessed by God, do not try to understand because the world is an enigma. God is Truth and Love, the world is of nothing and will soon dissipate. Read the book", as he handed me a thick book that looked as if it was around for years upon years. I opened to the first page and saw the inscription; it was in a dried blood color and read:

This is My Word, Presented Directly to My Beautiful Child in Whom I Am Well Pleased.

It was signed with a signature so simple, but so complex, I could never put it on paper, but He could. The light came upon me and I turned to Colton. He put his hand on my head and asked if I would be baptized in the Holy Spirit. With a smile of delight, I exclaimed yes! As He put his hand on my shoulder, I felt a strong heat and saw a light. I looked in the eyes of Colton and saw a man that walked the Earth 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ.

I was always a serious, controlling man. I was now taking this man to the river where he would baptize me in the river. When I came out of that dirty water, I heard angels; many, many angels singing.

Then Vs Now

I was a Pastor of a large church. I thought I knew God. I thought I knew Jesus. It was that day with Colton that I really came to know.

The next day, I resigned my position at the church. Everything is now sold and the plane ticket is bought. I have the bare needs and the calling to show unfortunates the Way, The Truth and The Life. I have three suitcases of Bibles. I have 3 change of clothes and I have God. I will pray in the morning and I will worship at noon; I will pray that evening.

Doing the Will of my Father is the most important item in my life.

Next stop, Uganda.

We are His voice; His actions; we cannot let evil have any foothold!

As Colton's sign said: Jesus IS Coming!

We must prepare for Him. Cleanse your hearts, fall to your knees. I will worship the King; our Great Majesty. He is our Lord; He is our Savior. May all who call on Him, find everlasting favor!

Is Jesus in your heart? Is He in your life? He is right there in front of you, talk with Him. His Words are written; read them. Life is but a fleeting moment, but eternity is forever. Let Jesus reign!
