Who's got the power?

You might be a believer in Jesus as the way,, but have never experienced His power being triumphant over the works of darkness. I share this story to encourage your faith that the Holy Spirit who was working in Biblical days is the same in the world today. The following video by William McDowell has a wonderful testimony between 25-35 minutes. Please enjoy the entire worship experience but do tune in during that specific interval to hear the amazing testimony of the power of the Almighty vanishing that which does not please him. Some Christians believe that there is nothing wrong with Wicca, witchcraft, seances, or using tarot cards. If that were true, then the Lord would not have stopped their power in William McDowell's college dorm room. When He defeats a work that is displeasing to Him, believers should take notice and no ,longer be involved with questionable practices. questionable

He is God alone

William McDowell shares that he had 2 college roommates, one a drug dealer and the other who dabbled in the black arts and practiced Wicca. The girlfriend of the latter was studying to become a witch. The couple held seances and read tarot cards whenever McDowell was not in the room. The singer tired of the ungodly practices and one day anointed things in his dorm room with oil as is outlined in scripture. James chapter 5 tells us:

14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Although it is not specifically outlined in the Bible, the use of anointing oil has been practiced successfully over the decades. William McDowell is a testimony to the fact that it works. Faith is the key and not the method that is employed. Please click on the following link to get a better understanding of anointing with oil.

The Holy Spirit is not for sale

McDowell says that after he anointed his dorm room with oil his roommate and the girlfriend found they could not continue to practice their rituals. He said his roommate eventually requested to be moved to another dorm. Before he left the roommate and the girlfriend discussed how there was a stronger power in the room that would not allow their methods to work. It is unfortunate that they did not ask William McDowell the source of this power and how they could have obtained it. This would have been an ideal opportunity for them to hear the gospel, and receive salvation. Their hearts, however, would have to have been pure before the Lord because wrong motives will not work. Consider the story from Acts chapter 8.

18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

Simon was a sorcerer but observed that the Apostles had a power greater than his and he wanted to buy it. His heart was not focused on the Lord but in obtaining the power source for his own purposes.

Wrong motives have consequences

A few months before Michael Jackson died, I viewed a video by gospel singers BeBe and CeCe Winans. After the pop singer passed away I was no longer able to pull the video up. To this day I cannot find it so I assume it was taken down. In the YouTube video, the Winans discuss how Jackson attended a service where they were singing and took note of the parishioners lifting their hands in worship to the Lord. He asked the singing siblings why the people were raising their hands and wanted to know how he could get his fans to do the same. Neither BeBe nor CeCe went into detail of how they explained the situation, but believers in Christ know that He shares His glory with no one. Perhaps it was unwittingly, unintentional, or inadvertently because of a lack of knowledge but Jackson was asking to have people adore Him as they do the Creator. Those like Simon and Michael Jackson who are looking for ways to exalt themselves will never truly receive His power as it will be misused. When you are a humble servant like William McDowell, He can flow through you so that He alone gets the glory. I have often wondered if Michael Jackson's untimely death was related to his desire to receive the same adoration as the Creator of all mankind. The Winans sing for the glory of the Lord and not to shine a spotlight on themselves.

Personal faith

In witchcraft and magic there are words and rituals that anyone can say or perform and obtain the same results. it's like mixing ingredients and baking a cake. Christian faith does not operate the same way and we each must do as we are led by the Holy Spirit. Please read the above link for a different view on the subject. William McDowell anointed his dorm room with oil and it kept the power of evil at bay because of his personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. Please do not try this as a ritual method if you do not have a relationship with the Father through His Son because you might end up like the 7 sons of Scheva, In Acts chapter 19 the Apostle Paul was doing great miracles in the name fo the Lord and these sons of Scheva thought they could do the same. They called on Demons to leave a man in the Name of Jesus that Paul mentioned. The evil spirits replied that they knew Paul and Jesus, but asked the boys, "Who are you"? before they tore them to pieces. At the end of that chapter, people saw the power of God was greater than their witchcraft and they brought all their magic possessions and burned them. Get rid of anything in your home that represents the occult and wholly follow Him and avail yourself to His power.
