The Ingredient Missing in the False Gospel of Love

Updated on December 27, 2017

PlanksandNails' goal is to be a catalyst in encouraging the followers of Christ to pursue Biblical truth for themselves.

There are many who talk about unconditional love as their Gospel. While they are sincere and noble in their efforts to portray love to those around them, they are direly missing something. The man-driven churches preaches about Christ and the love that he demonstrated, but their deeds do not portray genuine Godly love. Unfortunately, it is a counterfeit. They speak hollow religious words because the antecedent to real genuine biblical love is missing in their doctrine. Without it, the emphasis of love in their lives and towards others will be a fruitless endeavour even though they say, ‘All we got to do is preach love.’

It is true there are hundreds of Scripture verses that speak about the importance of love, but without the important ingredient that makes up genuine love, it is worthless to God.

The False Gospel

The leaven of the false Gospel of love has been plaguing the church system for a long time. They do not understand the definition of biblical love. The doctrine that they preach is separated from God’s standard to a more appealing humanistic universal definition.

A new commandment I give to you, that you LOVE ONE ANOTHER: JUST AS I LOVED YOU, YOU ALSO ARE TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER. BY THIS ALL PEOPLE WILL KNOW THAT YOU ARE MY DISCIPLES, if you have love for one another.” – John 13:34-35

From these verses alone, many believe that they qualify as being disciples of Christ.

Is it really that simple?

Is that all we need to do, just love one another?

The problem is that on the surface when these verses are left in isolation without deeper investigation, the false Gospel of love will be deemed as the same as having the true love of Christ.

All you have to do is step into one of the thousands of different denominational buildings within the church system and you will hear the anthems of their counterfeit Gospel sung to the roof tops.

By digging deeper in God’s word, there is something revealed that is missing from the counterfeit Gospel of love that exposes its error.

Christ is looking for something first in us before he will recognize our love as genuine.

Can you guess or figure out what that is?

The first clue is knowing who Christ’s disciples are. It says in Scripture that all people will know who they are based on the love that they have; therefore, knowing the conditions to being a disciple is paramount.

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “IF YOU ABIDE IN MY WORD, YOU ARE TRULY MY DISCIPLES – John 8:31

It is clearly evident that those that abide in God’s word are Christ’s true disciples because the result manifests into the most important trait that must precede having the true love of God.

AND YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE. – John 8:32

This may come as a shock to those who claim to have the love of Christ, but you cannot have it without abiding in God’s word first. That is what will lead us into His truth. The condition is ‘if,’ and ‘then,’ ‘you are truly my disciples.’ Many call themselves Christians will be at enmity with this because they want the relative truth or their own made up opinions of what they feel love is.

Unfortunately, many are too carnal minded and have no desire to be subjected to the truth. However, those who are open to it will become uncomfortable, be convicted and repent of their false ideology.

THE NATURAL PERSON DOES NOT ACCEPT THE THINGS OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD, FOR THEY ARE FOLLY TO HIM, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. – 1 Corinthians 2:14

If the truth of God is not attractive to the sinful world, then it follows that His love will not be attractive either. Religious men have created their own version of God’s love by neglecting the truth. They have created a social gospel of love that is meant to appeal to everyone. The result has led many into spiritual bondage because their truth has become relative. They do not have the genuine truth that will set them free.

Showing the true and genuine love of God comes by the leading of the Holy Spirit that guides us into the knowledge of His truth concerning His love.

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another HELPER, to be with you forever, even THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. – John 14:16-17

…GOD’S LOVE HAS BEEN POURED INTO OUR HEARTS THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT who has been given to us. - Romans 5:5

There are many who profess the love of Christ, but have no interest in understanding the truth that is in God’s word. They stand on man’s traditions to define what love is. God’s love can only be perfected in those who are obedient to Him.

Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and THE TRUTH IS NOT IN HIM – 1 John 2:4

The Cart before the Horse

Without being obedient to the doctrine that God has given us, the truth will not be in us. Without truth, we cannot have the knowledge of His love. Without the knowledge of His love, any love apart from His love is a counterfeit that has no value or place in His Kingdom. When we have the word of God embedded in our hearts, the truth will be within us. This is the most import thing to have because truth is the umbrella over genuine love.

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. THIS IS THE GREAT AND FIRST COMMANDMENT. And a SECOND is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” – Matthew 22:37-40

Christ refutes the counterfeit gospel of love in this verse.

Do you notice that he doesn’t say that we are to love our neighbour first, but to love God first?

How many falsely believe that they have God’s love within them, but they actually have rejected God and His truth through disobedience?

False Claims from False Churches

Those stressing the importance of love is meaningless when ignoring and neglecting God’s doctrine that He has given us as a standard to live by. Without it, you cannot be perfected in God’s love. The man-driven church system has perfected their art of sophistry on love, but it is a dead end. Every counterfeit church doctrine is about selling their version of love while ignoring the truth. They have put the cart before the horse with a a unconditional love that absorbs everybody’s differences into one ecumenical universal cesspool.

The precedence of a follower of Christ is the truth. They should understand that without it, they are in bondage. They know that true love is the offspring of truth.

For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and TESTIFIED TO YOUR TRUTH, as indeed you are WALKING IN THE TRUTH. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are WALKING IN THE TRUTH. – 3 John 3-4

Little children, let us not love in word or talk but IN DEED AND IN TRUTH. – 1 John 3:18

When we just love in our words, it means nothing to God unless our deeds portray love in His truth.

When we walk in obedience to God by applying His truth, His perfected love will manifest in us and we will be pleasing in His sight. From there, we will know how to love others.

We keep his commandments and DO WHAT PLEASES HIM. – 1 John 3:22

The blessings of God come from abiding in His truth and in His love. It will bring blessing, fruit and maturity in every believer. Being pleasing to God is contingent on abiding continually in His truth.

The devil’s Gospel emphasizes love while distracting away from abiding in truth. Without God’s truth, we cannot have His genuine love perfected in us. Any deviation is counterfeit.

Are you abiding in God’s truth first so that you may know His love?

      Graceinus,

Jesus Christ's love never interfered with truth. The love in truth that He preached was often deemed controversial, unpopular and even dangerous because it was tough love.

In fact, Jesus did not condone and tolerate what was taught by the religious leaders of that day. Today, we should apply His example and do the same. We need to reject the "alternative truths." The truth of God is absolute and does not change to man's ideologies. There is only one true faith that is by the narrow way that leads to life.

      Thank-you for commenting.

      Neil,

When the little leaven is not purged right away, the result is no longer belonging to God. The Kingdom of God does not mix the holy and profane together.

      Searchinsany,

You are right. The problem that many people have is in how they interpret love. There are four different types of love in Scripture (agape, storge, philia and eros), but one of the main types of love in the NT is agape. It is not based on personal feelings, but how many seek after their emotions to validate what "love" is?

PandN- The problem within the modern church today that teach on love is the fact that it's used to accept or impose tolerance. To be tolerable towards things that are evil. In other words to love is to show tolerance to evil that come in many forms or in false doctrine of any religion. If one tolerates, then they are respected by their fellow christian peers. So, the more you tolerate means the more you love and the more you love the more you are a christian. I believe this could be the foundation on the love doctrine we see in today's churches.

It is often said that christian must RESPECT and TOLERATE other faith. And by doing so we are demonstrating love towards our "neighbour." And I believe this is one of the areas where the problem lies.If one tolerate falsehoods within modren churches then we will also tolerate evil in other areas of life too.

For sure this is not the kind love Jesus Christ meant in regards to loving our neighbour. Jesus Christ loved us so much that He died for our sins on the cross. Not because we were tolerated.

      God bless

7 You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8 This persuasion did not come from Him who calls you. 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough. Galatians 5:7-8

These words sum up everything that today's purveyors of division preach in the corporate church.

They preach a false love because they do not preach or obey the truth. Their message did NOT come from God. And their false doctrine is the leaven that destroys all who align with their teaching.
