The Lord was a Man

Updated on June 29, 2019

The Lord destroys Jericho, including Children!

The Lord was a War Lord, a Man, not Divine.
The Lord was a War Lord, a Man, not Divine.

The Lord of the Old Testament was a Man.

The Lord in the Old Testament was a flesh and blood Man. He acted like a Man, a Feudal Lord, a Land Lord, a War Lord. The Lord was part of a dynastic family who ruled parts of the Mideast for generations. Abraham, Moses and Joshua were all ruled by this dynastic family. "The Lord" is actually a title like, "King."

The Rabbis report they actually saw The Lord interacting with the people. The Lord appeared to the people. The Lord was not just a figment of their imagination. Here are some examples.

"And Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting, and when they came out they blessed the people, and the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people." Leviticus 9:23.

The LORD appeared to him and said, "Do not go down to Egypt; stay in the land of which I shall tell you. Genesis 26:2

The LORD appeared to him the same night and said, "I am the God of your father Abraham; Do not fear, for I am with you I will bless you, and multiply your descendants, For the sake of My servant Abraham." Genesis 26:24

Then God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel and live there, and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau." Genesis 35:1

He built an altar there, and called the place El-bethel, because there God had revealed Himself to him when he fled from his brother. Genesis 35:7

Then God appeared to Jacob again when he came from Paddan-aram, and He blessed him. Genesis 35:9

Then Jacob said to Joseph, "God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me, Gensis 48:3.

In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream at night; and God said, "Ask what you wish me to give you." 1 Kings 3:5.

that the LORD appeared to Solomon a second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon. 1 Kings 9:2.

Now the LORD was angry with Solomon because his heart was turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, 1 Kings 11:9.

"The Lord" of Judahism is Not God

Absolve God of the atrocities committed by the Lord in the Old Testament.

The Lord built a nation and defended it with violence.

The Lord was into nation building, defending territory, making laws and punishment. These are all Human actions, Not divine. Here are a few examples:

EX 17:13 With the Lord's approval, Joshua mows down Amalek and his people.

EX 21:20-21 With the Lord's approval, a slave may be beaten to death with no punishment for the perpetrator as long as the slave doesn't die too quickly.

EX 32:27 "Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.

EX 32:27-29 With the Lord's approval, the Israelites slay 3000 men.

LE 26:7-8 The Lord promises the Israelites that, if they are obedient, their enemies will "fall before your sword."

LE 26:22 "I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children."

LE 26:29, DT 28:53, JE 19:9, EZ 5:8-10 As a punishment, the Lord will cause people to eat the flesh of their own sons and daughters and fathers and friends.

LE 27:29 Human sacrifice is condoned. (Note: An example is given in JG 11:30-39)

There are many more examples of The Lord acting like a Man, a nation builder, defender of territory, maker of laws and one who punishes transgressions. These are examples of the actions of a War Lord, not the God of Jesus.

God is consistent, unchanging.

God did not change from the Old Testament to the New Testament. God never was Jealous, Vengeful or Wrathful as depicted in Judahism.

Jesus described God as a Spiritual Being, an Ideal, a Good Parent.

Contrast the above description with how Jesus describes God in the New Testament. Jesus describes God as a Spiritual Being, an Ideal and a Good Parent. Good parents discipline their children with love and kindness, not brutally or with torture.

Luk 11:11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Luk 11:12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? Luk 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Every act of kindness, compassion, healing and deliverance which is attributed to Jesus can also be attributed to the Father. Every sermon and judgment made by Christ can likewise be attributed to the Father.

Refer to the teachings of Jesus in the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32) and the Adulteress (John 8:4-11). In neither story did the father (or Jesus) condemn the person. He did Not judge.

The father ran to his son and welcomed him before the son said a word. "But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran and put his arms around him and kissed him." Luke 15:20.

The adulteress said not a word of repentance to Jesus and He said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again." Repentance had nothing to do with the story. John 8:4-11.

Jesus said, "You judge by human standards; I judge no one." John 8:15

"Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. For with the judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get." Matt. 7:1-2.

Even while on the cross Jesus did not condemn anyone. Jesus said, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." Jesus healed with forgiveness to the end. So should we.

Let us follow the God of Jesus, not the God depicted in Judaism (Old Testament). To be Christian one must renounce the God of the OT (wrathful, warlike, killer of children), the God of Israel.

Once you know The Lord was a Man, you are free to have a better God.

The Lord being a Man explains the Old Testament.

If we think of The Lord of the Old Testament as a flesh and blood Man, a Feudal Lord, this completely explains the text without changing a word of it. Believing The Lord was a Man, Not divine, absolves God of child abuse and even genocide. Any story which depicts a Feudal Lord as God, is Blaspheme. Do not pray to a Man as if he is God.

If you pray to a War Lord you will receive War, if you pray to a Peace God you will find Peace. God is Good, not Evil. You have a choice, pray to a War Lord or pray to a Peaceful, Compassionate God.

God is Good, without negative human emotions.

It is Blaspheme to say God is Jealous, Vengeful or Wrathful.

Further citations showing The Lord was a Man.

NU 31:17-18 Moses, following the Lord's command, orders the Israelites to kill all the Midianite male children and "... every woman who has known man ...." (Note: How would it be determined which women had known men? One can only speculate.)

NU 31:31-40 32,000 virgins are taken by the Israelites as booty. Thirty-two are set aside (to be sacrificed?) as a tribute for the Lord.

DT 2:33-34 The Israelites utterly destroy the men, women, and children of Sihon.

DT 3:6 The Israelites utterly destroy the men, women, and children of Og.

DT 7:2 The Lord commands the Israelites to "utterly destroy" and show "no mercy" to those whom he gives them for defeat.

DT 20:13-14 "When the Lord delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the males .... As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves."

DT 20:16 "In the cities of the nations the Lord is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes."

There are many more atrocities attributed to The Lord, which indicated he was a Man, Not Divine. He was a War Lord. This understanding does not change a word of history, but absolves God of the atrocities reported.

War Lord or Divine?

After reading this, do you believe The Lord of the Old Testament was:

The lines have indeed some deeper meanings. From his deeds, he may not be seen as divine but rather a man.

Gotcha. Technically you would be correct. He would have been a man (in our terms) even if he were not human.

Thanks, I was trying to simplify the thought process between Divine or Not Divine. The paper is a starting point for discussion. My point in this paper is to say, my God does not act with violence, anger, jealousy.

Can't take the poll. Not enough options because I think the OT "god" was a space alien war lord, not a human war lord. Your first option placed him as a human; your second option was divine, which I don't believe he was.

Yes, this is a simplification to hit the main point: Pray to the God of Jesus, Not a Man or something less than God. Here, the warlord was misidentified as a god. Regardless of why this happened or who he was, he was Not the God Jesus described. Please take the poll.

Your article barely scratches the surface on that particular subject but I agree the age old divide and conquer scenario places itself out once again. Your question at the end deserves more options, for instance could our Lord be both a god (with a little g) and a man.

Depending on your perspective, there is a lot of evidence that our Lord was an extra-dimensional being with a Big EGO (edging god out) and set about manipulating the Earth's electro-magnetic grid by building megalithic temples on the ley lines of the Earth. Him and his lackey's, they have many names the immortal pantheon of ancient cultures built many pyramids and monuments in stone to harness the Earth's grid.

The long term plans were soul harvesting but somewhere along the way this pesky demi-god and his followers hit a snag or two. My research shows many authors and writers seem to think this group has been removed from the planet, I'm not 100% on board with that but they certainly aren't around either.
