The Mantra for Wealth and Prosperity
"If I were asked under what sky the human mind has most fully developed some of its choicest gifts, has most deeply pondered on the greatest problems of life, and has found solutions, I should point to India" - Max Mueller.
India is a rich land of great culture and spirituality. It is the birthplace of many religions, philosophy and great saints. Adi Shankaracharya is one of the greatest philosophers India has ever seen. He founded the 'Advaita Vedanta'. He was a treasure of spiritual knowledge.
The "Kanaka Dhara Strotra" is a mantra or prayer for wealth and prosperity (Kanaka means Gold and Dhara means flow/pouring). Its credit goes to Sri Shankaracharya. It is believed that chanting this mantra will help you to achieve wealth and prosperity. The legend has it that after 'Brahmopadesa', Shankara, the boy was sent to beg alms for his lunch. One day he went to a Brahmin's house. It was a poor family lived in utter poverty. They had nothing to give Shankara when He requested alms. Still the lady of the house went to the kitchen and made a thorough search and could collect only one small fruit of Gooseberry. She gave it to Shankara with joy. Shankara was touched by her gesture. He sang 21 sweet hymns on Goddess Lakshmi. Lakshmi was delighted and poured golden gooseberries as rain on the poor woman's house. It is believed that chanting this mantra, poverty can be alleviated.
Chant this mantra every day after the bath. Select a place offering peace. It is better you do it in the morning. It has 21 stanzas of 4 lines each. Since it is written in Sanskrit, it may sound a little bit strange. You may find it difficult to utter properly in the initial days. Never mind, you will come in tune with it as days pass on. Soon you will have that smoothness and flow and can really enjoy it. I suggest you to go with the audio given below. It is sung by M.S. Subhalakshmi, the legendary singer of Karnatik music.
Certain guidelines for chanting this mantra
- First take a print out of the Sloka (mantra) and keep it handy for daily use.
- Download the above audio to your personal music system like iPod, walkman or USB for easy usage.
- Put on the audio: listen and read simultaneously
- Within a few weeks you will be comfortable with the mantra; then avoid audio help and start reading from the printout.
- In due course, if you try, you can learn it by heart; then avoid print out also.
- Try to chant every morning after bath
- After finishing reading, (chanting) pray to the Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity.
