The Many Martyrs That Died for the Witness of Jesus Christ

Updated on August 4, 2017

"The Many Martyrs Died For The Witness Of Jesus Christ"

Revelations chapter 14 - 13 : And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, write blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth : yea, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

Revelations chapter 18 - 24 ; And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints and if all that were slain upon the earth.

Revelations chapter 20 - 4 : And I saw thrones and they sat upon them and judgement was given unto them, and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus and for the word of God and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image , neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

There were many martyrs that died for the witness of Jesus through out the bible, but out of the Fox's book of martyrs by William Byron Forbush.

Stephan -- Preached the gospel to the betrayers and murderers of Jesus Christ, Stephan was cast out of the city and stoned to death.

James -- The brother of John and related to the Lord. Stephan had been dead ten years before James was martyred, King Herod had James beheaded because he profess to be a christian.

Phillip -- Was the first disciple by the name disciple. He was thrown into prison and crucified in A.D.54

Matthews -- The tax collector and disciple of God was slain by a battle ax.

James the Lesser --The overseer of the church of Jerusalem and the author of the Epistle ascribed in James scared canon. He was 34 when he was beaten and stoned by the Jews, his brains beaten out with a club.

Matthias -- One of our less known disciples, he was stoned in Jerusalem and was beheaded.

Andrew -- Preached the gospel to many Asian nations, he was crucified on a cross that was transversed fixed in the ground.

Mark --Was converted to Christianity by Peter and wrote the gospel in Greek. Mark was dragged to pieces by the people of Alexandra.

Peter -- Was a blessed apostle, that was crucified upside down, because he said he was unworthy to be crucified in the same manner as our Lord Jesus.

Jude -- was crucified in A.D 72.

Bartholomew -- He translated the gospel. he was beaten unmercifully and then crucified by idolaters.

Thomas -- Also known as Didymus or Doubting Thomas which preached the gospel. He was thrust through with a spear.

Luke -- An evangelist of the gospel and was hanged on a n olive tree.

Simon -- Preached the gospel and was crucified A.D. 74.

John -- The beloved disciple also brother to James . John was thrown into a cauldron of hot oil, which by the miracle of God was not harmed. he was banished to the Isles of Patmos where he wrote the book of Revelations, in fact he was the only apostles that escaped a violent death.

as we can see all of Gods disciples and apostles died in the name of Jesus Christ . will you be a martyr for Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Is giving up your life for Jesus , to much to ask for some one that died on the cross for all of us, so we would have a chance of eternal life . without Jesus dying in our stead there wouldn't be no chance of us living forever after death. One day there will come a time when the antichrist and his helpers, will be here on this earth to try and get everyone to worship the beast and give the mark of the beast to the people here on earth.

Are you strong enough to stand and die in Jesus name. Will you be a martyr for Jesus Christ. The bible said if you lose your life , you find it again. I think it's much better to die in Jesus and have a guaranteed resurrection of life that will never end . We all have a choice today ,to choose whom will serve , will it be Jesus and live a life time of immortality, or will we choose the antichrist and live and die and be sent to hell and brimstone for ever more; along with the antichrist and his worshippers of iniquity and never have a chance at redemption again. Can you live and die with thoughts of being a lost soul, forever. At least being in a martyr for Christ, you have a ever lasting resurrection to look forward too. I cannot afford to make the wrong choice, can you?.

Great Hub! I have Foxe's Book of Martyrs and it is a great, if sobering, read. I hope I can die for Jesus Christ, but I'm not sure I have the courage. That is a tough question you ask. And one we had all better think about.

That's amazing. I preached on the martyr's this past Sunday. Even though God may or may not call us to die for Him, we all ought to live for Him until He takes us home. Thanks for the overview and challenge.

Over 170,000 Christians are martyred for their faith every year. As I read about them in the book "Jesus Freaks" I envy their faith. Hearing their stories build up my faith. It shows me that not only is there something worth dying for, but also there are precious souls that are in fact giving their lifes blood for that very thing. For the name of the One who gave His life a ransom for many! Great topic dear lady!

Wow, I enjoyed reading this hub. It's enlightening and encouraging. It help me to realize in the trials and tributlations of my life is minor compared to our forerunners. And indeed We (me) have not resisted unto blood. Makes me appricate my life and place in God's plans a lot more and not complain or whimper over my tests. Thanks for this one. It's on time for me!

It is not an easy-peasy road to commit to GOSPEL. Satan can bend space and time and pit kin against kin and friend against friend. God bless Faye!

This is beautiful Gospel history. Hard truth- but there is beauty from the light of those before us.
