The Mary or Martha choice.

Which are you?

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Matthew 22:37 New International Version

When Jesus went to Mary, Martha and Lazarus’ house for a meal Mary was very content to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen to Him after she had completed her chores. Martha on the other hand was busy trying to make everything perfect for the master before sitting down to listen to Him. The meal that they shared is probably forgotten the next day, but the words Jesus spoke to Mary lasted her a lifetime.

How many Christians are so busy serving Jesus at youth groups, prayer meetings, Sunday school and in Bible groups they have no time to just sit and pray and read the Bible to have a conversation with Him?

Yes, serving Jesus is important, but He wants to have a relationship with Him as well.

If I go through a day without reading the Bible and praying first thing in the morning it is like trying to go to the gym for a morning workout without having a decent breakfast first.

When we learn to pray and praise God every day, it becomes the best part of our day. Joseph- Anthony: Green

How is your quiet time with Jesus doing these days?

Prayer: Please Jehovah Shammah (the Lord is present) help me to develop a quiet time to be between just You and me. A time where I can drink in the living waters of Your precious Word, a time where I can talk with You, a time when I can sing songs of praise, joy and thanks for the marvelous privilege of having someone so special as You to share such a wonderful loving relationship with. I ask this in the name of my best friend who I enjoy spending time with every day Jesus Christ. Amen.

May the sunshine of Jesus’ sweet love bless you today and every day.

You brought about an old argument that exists today among many people. Is it better to be busy serving or listening? I think both are important and have their priorities in serving Christ. Finding the balance and the right times to do them is important. Thank you for the reminder of what it all means.

Hello teacherjoe, loved this hub encouraging us to look into our hearts. Apart from that intimate relationship with Jesus ... we are just following a set of rules. God draws us and teaches us as we prioritize our lives to draw near to Him in a personal time of worship, study and prayer.

It is humbling to think of how much God loves his children. God Bless you dear man as you write for His glory. I know God uses you to encourage others in their walk with Christ and to draw the lost to the one who loves them most.

"A Mary heart in a Martha world" is an expression that I like. The connectedness is important no matter the schedule. Thanks for the reminder.

Nice hub teacherjoe52, great words of wisdom. Truly we can never exchange the time we have with God in prayer and Word for anything this world has to offer. Deep and intimate relationship with God is the true source of power for living. Remain blessed always. Best regards.

This is so true. Public worship is meaningless without private worship. Thanks so much for sharing this. Voted up, useful, beautiful.

      hi Teacherjoe,

It is the most fulfilling time of the day. Time spent alone with the Lord. May all his children learn to sit at His feet. Thanks for a hub on this subject. God Bless
