The Missing Ingredient

Updated on January 29, 2012

One day as I watched my electric breadmaker mixing the ingredients for bread, I noticed that the dough looked abit dry. The dough was sticking to the sides of the pan and some of the ingredients were not mixing together properly. As hard as the little bread paddle worked with it's twisting and turning inside the pan it could not bring all the ingredients together.

What was wrong? What ingredient was missing that would correct this problem? Water? Yes, the mixture needed just a bit more water to moisten and hold everything together. As I poured a few drops of water into the pan, I thought of my life and how dry and lifeless it had become. The things I believed in were crumbling and my life seemed to be falling apart. Just like the bread paddle I was working hard to try to hold everything together but I just could not get things to be the way they should be.

It was at this time that I realized I needed the moisture of heaven to help me. I needed the living water that Jesus spoke of in John 4:10.

As I sat down and began to search the scriptures for information on the "living water" I read in Isaiah 58:11 "The Lord will guide you continually, watering your life when you are dry and keeping you healthy too. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring. "

This, I thought, is what I need. This is the missing ingredient in my life right now. I need some of that living water to come in and replace the dryness, so things will begin to come together correctly again and my life will be renewed.

That was five years ago and I can tell you today that day was a turning point in my life. As the saying goes, "Let go and let God", that is exactly what I did. I stopped trying so hard to hold everything together on my own and starting asking God to help me. I gave Him my burdens and cares and He gave me that "living water" which refreshed me and turned my life into a "well watered garden" just as the scriptures said.
