The Mysterious Hebrew VAV

The Magical Mystery of the VAV

The VAV speaks of YESHUA/JESUS "If one letter could tell the Gospel it would be VAV"

You could write a book about the many facets of this unique letter. A little history first. The Hebrew alphabet is a consonantal language, that is there are no vowels. There are vowel sounds but they are not recorded, just known. Around 400 AD the Jewish people were assimilating with other cultures and forgetting how to say the Hebrew words. So they developed a set of dots and dashes.[note picture] as helps. They did not add them to the alphabet and normally you won't see them in everyday use. For places where people need them they use them. As you get use to it you really don't need them and they can actually get distracting. Like a lot of early languages it started out a picture language that evolved into clear letters. Each letter has a picture associated with it. In the case of the VAV it's a spike or hook. Each letter has a name, the VAV is a letter that has a "V" sound. Usually there is only one sound per letter. There are exceptions like the BET. It can have a "B" sound or a "V" sound which is called a VET, but it is still is a BET. The letters also have a number, for the VAV it's # 6, because it's the 6th letter. From the Hebrew mindset all this is very important. When a Jew is making a financial gift, they like to give $18 or multiples thereof, because 18 means "LIFE". So you are giving "LIFE" You can get a good sense of a word by the meaning of the letters. It should be noted that when making a letter you start at the top. This speaks of the letters coming from Heaven to Earth.

The VAV - As noted above It is a letter, number and word. IT ALSO GOES MISSING! It has many interesting nuances, and some curious dynamics about it. There is a special thing it can do Its known a the "THE REVERSING VAV" it literally reverses a word! An example is "he has gone" changes to "he will go" and "I came" changes to "I will come". This is done by putting a VAV in front of the verb. It also is the word "Hook" and is used for the word "and" conceptually . It can also take on the nature of a vowel. In some instances it becomes silent and gets it sound from the invisible vowel. It can be used as a binding force {the "and" as a concept} and a dividing force. In Leviticus 11:42 it is also use as a checker, as it's the exact center letter in the Torah {in the word belly] and they checked the accuracy of their copies by counting the number of letters forward and back words.

The Hebrew has over 400 Laws for the precise copying of a sacred scroll. One of which is every letter must be perfectly formed. If a scribe made a mistake in making a Scroll copy, it couldn't be "fixed" it had to be taken out and buried. BUT there are exceptions. If there is an "oddity" in the original it had to be left there! Noting the pictures above are 2 examples. One has a broken VAV, the other has an enlarged VAV which is the exact middle of Torah and acting as a dividing force. In Numbers 25:12 Phinehas has won a victory by killing someone, who by offending GOD, was causing a plague. It says In verse 12 "I give unto him my covenant of peace" The word "peace" in Hebrew is "Shalom" and a broken VAV in it. Why the broken VAV because in the covenant of peace our VAV, the "man Christ JESUS" had to be broken.1 Corinthians 11:24 "My body broken for you" The enlarged VAV In the middle of Torah speaks of Christ. "in the volume of the BOOK it is written of me" Psalms 40.7. These inspired oddities are God's doing.

There are missing VAV's or "incomplete words" In Hebrew the word for Generations has an VAV in it before "the Fall" it is called "complete", after the fall it is "missing", you wont see the VAV back in Generations again until Ruth 4:18 which is speaking of the Line of David leading to YESHUA, the VAV is back in the word. It is Jesus who makes our Generations complete. There is an even more awesome example in Exodus 12 the King James usually translates the Hebrew word Alaeph-Vav-Tav which is pronounced 'oth' as sign but they chose to us the English word 'token'. In either case it is still the same Hebrew word, but in this particular verse Exodus 12.13 the word has the Vav missing, which gives you not only Vav missing all you end up seeing in Hebrew is the Aleph-Tav which are the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet and in Revelation 22.13 Jesus said " I am the first and the last". Most other translations use the word 'sign' in Exodus 12. Interestingly King James also out of 79 times, 60 times it translates it as the word 'sign' twice as 'miracle' and once as 'mark'.

VAV is symbolic of man, the 6th letter. Six is also the number for man. The picture for VAV is a spike with a Hook on top, drawn from top down. This speaks of CHRIST who comes down from above joining heaven and earth. The One who we hang our life upon. In Genesis 1 there is an VAV [and] between Heaven and Earth, HE is the "JOINER"! As the "reversing VAV" He's "the reverser" of our sin separation. Vav is the word "Hook". The VAV is the Hebrew word hook that the curtains of the Temple hung on. VAV is also used as the word "And" The ONE who brings us together.

There is much more, but I'd like to close with these little thoughts. Shalom {peace} has a silent
VAV in it which is covered by the O vowel sound. Remember there are no written vowels. Jesus is our peace, but we don't visibly see HIM. God's scared name is spelled yod-hay-vav-hay which would be pictured as hand-breath-hook-breath, As a picture this VAV is the "hook" in the midst of God. This is the VAV in midst of God'S breath. And finally in there is a little twist in D Deuteronomy 33.3 "God LOVED his people--and they shall receive". The word used for God's Love there, is the only time it's used in the Scripture. In Hebrew the letters are "Ch-V-V" pronounced ka-vav which means a warm cherishing breath. In John 20:22 "Jesus breathed on them and said receive the HOLY SPIRIT" I TRUST THAT GOD HAS BREATHED ON YOU

VAV Shalom
