The Only Way to Heaven

Updated on November 1, 2015

The Only Way to Heaven

Where is Heaven? Is it a real place? Of course, human beings don't know where Heaven is, but many believe it is the home of God and His angels, and His Son, Jesus Christ. I believe Heaven is an actual place that is located beyond the known universe. Heaven is mentioned several times in the Bible. For example, the following excerpt is taken from the Bible:

There was war in Heaven; Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, but did not prevail; neither was their place found any more in Heaven. The great dragon, that old serpent, called the Devil or Satan, who deceives the world, was thrown out of Heaven. Then he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels with him.

(Revelation, Chapter 12, Verses 7 through 9)

Satan is finally banished from Heaven forever. Long before that happened, he had come to earth from Heaven in the guise of a serpent. He came to tempt the first man and woman to eat the fruit that God had told them not to eat. God had told them they would die if they ate it. Nevertheless, they ate of the forbidden fruit and their perfect bodies began to age and they eventually died.

God created the first man and woman, whom we call Adam and Eve, and they were perfect. God had created them to live eternally but when they ate the forbidden fruit, they committed the first sin and became imperfect.

Subsequently, Adam and Eve had a sinful nature and lost their immortality. Every human being since then has inherited their sinful nature. Therefore, even though we receive life from God, our sinful nature separates us from Him, and causes our death.

Was God created? Many believe that life was accidentally created from elements. But elements do not have the quality of energy we call life; therefore, they cannot create life, they merely form a body for life.

The creation of life requires a causation that cannot be attributed to inanimate elements. That causation comes from an immortal form of life we call God. Purposeful thought and creative thought are attributed to life. Those who believe otherwise cannot explain the origin of life or thought, especially creative, purposeful thought that elements do not have.

Life has always existed in some form because elements without creative thought could not produce life. Therefore, we must conclude that a form of life with creative thought has always existed. This form of life we call God, and He creates all other forms of life.

Did God create Heaven? The complex structure of the universe indicates that it was produced by creative thought. And because it has existed for millions of years, we must conclude that God created the universe. But before God created the universe and human beings, He created Heaven and the angels who live there.

Where is God? The Bible tells us that God resides in Heaven. Some people believe that, if they have been good, they will go to Heaven and be with God after they die.

The problem is that people cannot eliminate their sinful nature, and that precludes them from going to Heaven. You can, however, be forgiven for the sins you commit; and that would qualify you to go to Heaven. What can you do to be forgiven for your sins?

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for our sins. Then after three days, he arose from the dead and ascended to Heaven. The following excerpts are taken from the Bible:

In Jesus Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.

(Ephesians, Chapter 1, Verse 7)

Jesus said, "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will return and receive you unto myself so that where I am, you may be also. You know where I am going and you know the way."

(John, Chapter 14, Verses 1 through 4)

Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me."

(John, Chapter 14, Verses 5 and 6)

Many believe that if they live the right way and follow the golden rule, which is "do unto others as you would have them do unto you", they will go to Heaven. But you cannot save yourself from the consequences of sin. You must believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and that he died for your sins; only then can you be saved and go to Heaven.

Someday Jesus will return and gather all Christians, living and dead, and take them to Heaven. Those who had died will be resurrected at that time. This is the basic belief and hope of Christianity.

Many believe in other religions such as Buddhism, whose members believe in the teachings of Buddha. He was a religious leader of India who taught that by thinking and acting correctly, one could reach enlightenment. This would be a state of mind in which the soul would be free of pain, sorrow, and desire. Many Buddhists also believe in reincarnation, which means that after the body dies, the soul enters a new living body.

Buddha, however, died centuries ago, and cannot help anyone now. People cannot eliminate their sinful nature without divine help. Therefore, they cannot become perfect on their own. The idea of reincarnation does not make sense because if it were true, the world population would remain about the same; but it is growing rapidly.

Although many religions exist, there is only one God; and there is only one truth. The truth is that human beings die; therefore, they are not immortal. We are imperfect and we live in an imperfect world that is deteriorating. Human beings cannot save the world or themselves; and they cannot go to Heaven without becoming perfect.

The Bible tells us that God loves the world and He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins. If you believe in Jesus, you can be saved from destruction; you can become perfect and have eternal life. Jesus is the way, the only way to Heaven.
