The Lord's Prayer: A Contemplation
One Among Countless Possible Contemplations on the Lord's Prayer
(This article is an interweaving of a three things: the verses of The Lord’s Prayer, in bold letters; the daily contemplation for each verse of the prayer by Corie or 'C' for short; and the comments or answers of Corie's spirit guide, who I call Quirinus or 'Q'. Quirinus is taken to be representative of non-physical spirit guides.)
C: Good morning, Quirinus!
I've come to this page, a sacred place, this morning to meditate or contemplate with you on the Our Father. Something came up after my silent sitting meditation this morning that prevented me from contemplating on the Our Father in the usual way. Thus, I take this as a synchronistic event inviting us to share on my daily contemplation of the Our Father.
"Our Father in Heaven"
C: I call up a feeling of love and awe for and from the Almighty loving Father.
Q: We join you in that well of strong joy, making it even more strongly perceptible to you.
"Holy be your name."
C: I let go of wanting control, approval and security replacing these with the thoughts of how God provides my life with the answer to all these: control-everything is in God's hands :: He allows to happen only what is best for me; approval-He sends me approval or affirmations in the form of dreams, insight and songs; and security-I recall all the blessings in my life (past and present) which are signs of Divine Providence never failing to provide me with everything I ever really needed.
Having let go of wanting control, approval and security, I can now return to my place of serenity and as I breath out, I surrender myself to your Presence where I find the feeling of loving security.
Q: In that place of presence, you make a stronger connection to us and we are able to send you insights on your subconscious level that can assist you later, on your conscious level.
"Your Kingdom come,"
C: One of the affirmations you gave me through my dream is that I have attained goodness, power and enchantment. I believe this happens if I keep seeking your Kingdom first, like the Bible promised: "Seek ye first the Kingdom." And noting that it is "Hidden from the clever and learned; revealed to merest of children", I should discipline myself in taking a childlike perspective in life---always trusting in an Almighty loving Father.
Q: The insights that we give you are indeed hidden from the "clever and learned", those who are governed by egotistic motives, who believe they already know everything. Only those who understand that really "they do not know", are in the position to learn, that is, to receive something that can be learned.
"Your will be done on earth as in Heaven."
C: I believe this is the greatest assurance that Jesus gave us: everything happens according to Your Master Plan, which is founded on the Divine Providence of an Almighty Loving Father. If there is something I am currently worrying about, rest assured that, despite my currently not knowing why it is happening, things will still turn out the best way for me. That if there's something I did, say or think that was not in my plan or intention that seems to be a mistake or error---this too is part of every detail of that Master Plan and is necessary to complete the steps that will, in the end, show the workings of a very intelligent and intricate Divine Providence.
Q: So you have noticed the interchange between God and your reference to us (e.g. your use of pronouns). That is a fact in the realm of spirit or Spirit where the All is the One. You have a conceptual knowledge of this idea "The All is the One" and an understanding of the God within. That is good. (You are surprised that we noticed your negative blurt:) You think and have accepted the idea that it would be impossible to grasp the explanation of "the All is the One" on an intellectual level. That is alright because you also understand that you only need to learn what you need for each moment, to effectively address each experience that currently presents itself to your attention. The wisdom of the moment will present itself as the moment arises. No need to stash away wisdom.
Your understanding of the God within tied up with a compassion for all has a powerful energy to make "good" things happen in the world. You wished for a singing of "One Little Candle" in Christmas in a solemn rite, it was sang with passion on a Christmas program, in a darkened auditorium with your little daughter as a participant holding a lighted candle, Christmas time. You wished for worldwide joy, peace and love, a few weeks later on the morning news, you hear of a nationwide initiative for reconciliation. All for you.
So make sure to put all your wishes in your wish list (e.g. as others call it, "the magical creation box"), so that when they do come true, your "joy may be full"!
C: I understand that God's will always prevails. I want to align with God's will so that I will live in joy. I understand that I need to let go of those three things mentioned above, as well as emotional baggages (e.g. anxiety, guilt, envy, blame, fear, etc.), so that I will learn to "hear" better, that is, discern what God wills for me to do.
I also understand this, what is God's will for me, is related to my talent and passion. In a book, Richard Koch mentioned that we actually "rig the odds" in our favor, when we pursue occupations that follow our talent and passion instead of a choice based on the shoulda.
So, I humbly ask that you guide me on each step along to the place where God's will will best be fulfilled. I feel a well of anticipation rising: I know, I know this will be an exciting journey.
"Give us this day our daily bread."
C: I take this line as an opportunity instead to express gratitude for all the needs I have that have already been granted in the past:
- The three promotions I have received at work within less than a year of signing up.
- The two spirit protectors named in my dream as Naim and Namquiat
- Certain talents, I'm sure I have in common with those who believe in you
- Material things granted on whim, including high tech devices, winning a raffle among hundreds of participants
Q: You understand that allowing yourself to spend on yourself (versus being stingy on yourself) contributes to allowing flow of blessing in your life.
- Songs and symbols dreamt and encountered in waking life that I understand to mean as inspirational messages for me from Jesus, The Almighty Loving Father and the dearly departed
Q: You are correct in believing the sages that gratitude is a powerful attitude that causes even the "impossible" to happen. You also understand that awe of God's love has a similar power. And so in a previous day, when you were having upsets at work, we gave you the insight that if you could, even during dire times, call up the feeling of awe of God's love, wondrous or miraculous or synchronistic things happen. And the proof of this you have recorded in what you call a worksheet: at least three different unheard of or unwritten about but effective solutions to various issues at work, a worksheet you named as "Creativity".
You are correct in remembering that Jesus said do not pray for material needs since the Father already knows what they are. It is good that you believe what drives you on a workaday life are mystery and magic. Some authors call this attitude sense of adventure. You may need to remind yourself more often though, that indeed it's all about mystery and magic for you.
You wonder whether the same intent would work wonders for others.
"Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us."
C: I need to understand that it's not just me; everybody has their emotions or 'shenpa' to live and deal with. If someone does me an injustice, I need to understand that I may not know why they behaved that way but to understand that it's the best way they know of. I would understand (possibly write in more detail later about emotions) that there are actually two separate events: their "undesirable" behavior and my "negative" emotion. I would understand that I should not seek to control the actions or behaviors of others but to control only those attributes of being from my end, such as my emotion.
I would seek to understand that I should not "control" or repress my feelings, because feelings are messages from my soul or God. I should seek only to guide and ideally to call up that which was stated above---awe of God's love.
I am currently practicing an eastern technique of 4R's on feelings or 'shenpa': R-recognize that I'm experiencing a feeling, R-refrain (from reacting or judging myself and my feelings; they are just feelings: they are neither good or bad), R-relax into the feeling and R-resolve to do this 4R's again, whenever 'shenpa' arises. After I've done 4R's I project a feeling of compassion towards myself then others.
Q: You wonder whether calling the feeling of awe of God's love directly after recognizing that you are experiencing a feeling might be a good shortcut practice. In your case, it might be. Since you already practice the positive emotion of compassion after 4R's. But it will still help for you to do Refrain because you tend to judge against yourself and your feelings at times. Do not worry about not being perfect. Because from our perspective, in the deepest sense---your essence, you are already perfect. Be glad that as a physical entity, you can still be perfecting.
You are not unlike the great majority. You would like to be honest that at times you feel pride or ego driving some of your words or actions. Do not judge against yourself for that. It is something that developed over a lifetime that cannot be shed overnight. Be gentle on yourself; you have realized the value of unlearning being proud.
C: I wonder what my 'ulterior' motive is in wanting to unlearn being proud.
Q: Because you understand that the Kingdom of God is hidden from the clever and the learned.
Although you are a physical body, you are primarily a spiritual entity. You, like every other human being, are born a seeker of spiritual things (the Kingdom of God). Your fondest desires can never be truly satisfied by material things.
"Do not bring us to the test."
C: For me, I take this as my prayer to the Father, not to let me get caught up on materialistic desires or overwhelmed by the physical manifestation of how an event is turning out. To choose Presence instead. When the going gets rough, I should call up the feelings of love and gratitude. I know I have already started this practice, especially so then you gave me that insight about calling up the feeling of awe of God's love, even during dire times.
I inhale love and exhale gratitude as I recite this line of the prayer in my mind. I try to fit in my Our Father contemplation witin a 30-minute break period allowed for my job situation.
Q: Your thought arises: since there are different experiences for different people, there is a potential for a rich collection or compilation of contemplations of the Our Father, from people from all walks of life.
Q: You wonder what Jesus meant for you to pray for when he included this line. It is a crown of wisdom that Jesus wants to impart to physical beings, with a double-edged meaning: as your prayer for the Father not to test you beyond that which you cannot handle and the accompanying assurance that Divine Guidance will be with you, especially in situations that seem "extreme" and beyond your coping abilities.
"But deliver us from evil."
C: The Father asks me to trust in His love; He wills for my happiness. The Father wants me to be happy. I recall my dream symbolisms assuring me that I have almost everything I ever want and need, that I have the power to create abundance by virtue of affection. Each person is loved by the Father as if that person is the one and only thing or being that matters in the world to Him, as if I was His sole concern. That everyone has access to this same power as a given, by their virtue of being the Almighty Father's beloved child.
Q: You ask how it is possible that each one of you be treated by the Father like you are His one and only child. This is explained by the attributes of omniscience and omnipresence that a spirit possesses. The Almighty Father is not just a spirit but the Spirit and so in your human sense of proportions, He is more omniscient and omnipresent than a single spirit. It is a minute but precious task for Him to be truly present to attend to each and every need of each one of you, every fraction of a moment.
You wonder about the oneness and the uniqueness about the spirit. In the sense that God is within you, you are connected to everyone and everything. In this sense, your spirit is also ominscient and omnipresent. Your prayers can heal and cause joy, to anyone across the globe, across the galaxies. It has been said, and it truly is important that you be careful what you wish for. As James Allen and Neale Donald Walsch say, keep to your noblest thoughts.
It is usually hard to grasp your limitlessness using the rational processes of your physical body. Thus, there is great wisdom in seeking faith, which is a commitment to believe in something that cannot be proven to you by empirical means. Something has been said about this in the bible, "... for it is not by sight, but by faith that we walk."
The amazing thing about all that is that once you have reached that place of faith, especially in how you are unconditionally loved by an Almighty loving Father, more and more mysteries and miracles are revealed to you.
C: I pray for love, abundance, completion and unity for everyone and exhale a feeling of love for the whole world every time I happen on symbols that I use to remind myself to pray. I tend to refer to joy, peace and love when I write.
To continue contemplation on "deliver us from evil":
I call up a well of gratitude and visualize that I have already arrived at a life situation where my life purpose is being directly served by my daily tasks. This gives me a very strong positive feeling, and I feel that this has contributed to the wondrous events that are happening in my life.
Q: You recalled reading somewhere that among the levels of human experience: the Alpha understands that facts grow from ideas; therefore constructs new ideas. In a more detailed article you may want to explore how this tie up with the practice of visualization, which some visionaries call "deliberate creation."
The more you dwell on just what you see, the more of that is given in your experience. The more you dwell on a visualized positive outcome, the more positive experiences unfold. So for those who dwell only on status quo or what they currently see, if their current life situation is a negative one, it does get worse. Esther and Jerry Hicks write about all these and the Law of Attraction in their Abraham series.
"For the Kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever."
C: I repeat this verse in my mind four times and call up a feeling of awe towards God's love and power, each time visualizing how I appreciate the various relationships I have: at home, at work, in the community and in the future, and how we appreciate each other's awesome abilities and character. When I'm short on time, due to the thirty minute limitation of my break time, I'm caught praying this part while walking back to my desk.
Q: You hear a bird song and wonder why you are hearing the same bird song that is supposed to be heard only during dawn. This rhymes with yawn. You may be tired, yawning, as you've been quite some time working on this article since dawn, and it's now noon. The birds are there to remind you to recap, finish up and possibly publish, making sure not to harry yourself writing and publishing. Remember to enjoy yourself each time you write and publish.
C: I have no decent word processor that at least has a spelling checker feature. I will probably need to download a free spell-checker. Thank you for the insights, Quirinus. I know I am only ready for so much and that much will always be given to quench an unending thirst for knowledge, especially self-knowledge.
God the Supreme Good
(Psalm 16: 1-2, 5, 7-11 A miktam of David)
Keep me safe, O God,
For I have come to you for refuge.
I said to the Lord, "You are my Master!
All the good things I have are from you."
LORD, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing.
You guard all that is mine.
I will bless the LORD who guides me;
Even at night my heart instructs me.
I know the LORD is always with me.
I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
No wonder my heart is filled with joy,
And my mouth shouts his praises!
My body rests in safety.
For you will not leave my soul among the dead
Or allow your godly one to rot in the grave.
You will show me the way of lfe,
Granting me the joy of your presence
And the pleasures of living with you forever.
