The False Pastor and the Moses Complex

Updated on October 15, 2017

PlanksandNails' goal is to be a catalyst in encouraging the followers of Christ to pursue Biblical truth for themselves.

The institutional church system has a top down leadership structure where the person who sits on top is called the Pastor. Those within this religious system give lip service to Scripture, but in action deny Kingdom principles that were laid out by Christ and the apostles. Most people assume that their popular hierarchical structure is of God because of its popularity believing that it is God’s will to look up to and be led by a prominent salaried official.

When talking to church folk they will ask, 'Who is your pastor?' They will expect a response expecting you to refer to a Pastor whose vocation is attached to a denominational building where people gather to be led by the vision of this particular man or woman.

The problem with the word 'Pastor' within the sphere of Christianity is contradictory to the proper usage in Scripture.

When someone asks, 'Who is you pastor?' our immediate should be, 'Christ.' Obviously this response is not what a church member would expect to hear because they are conditioned to follow someone else. This leaves them with a blank stare as they are not quite sure how to respond.

Pastor - Shepherd

'Pastor' and 'Shepherd' can be used somewhat synonymously in Scripture referring to a particular person who watches over their sheepfold and defends against predators to the point of risking their lives for them. Their goal is to take care of the sick and wounded desiring full healing for them. They will go out of their way to go after any sheep that have gone astray so that they may return back to the sheepfold. A Shepherd desires to lead the sheep to green pastures and still waters so that they may have the nourishment they need to live. The Shepherd knows each one of his sheep by name and the sheep know his voice because their Shepherd is no stranger them. The sheep love their Shepherd and trust their lives to him.

When we look at the characteristics set forth for a Shepherd in Scripture something quite alarming comes to the light when contrasted for what is called 'Pastor' within the church system. Church members have been indoctrinated in to believing that their Pastor is the keeper of their soul; therefore, Christ to them is never a thought over their highly decorated esteemed official who mandates their every move.

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. – Psalm 23:1

Those among the ekklesia understand, just like David did, that only God can restore their souls. David knew that only God could forgive his sins through humility and repentance. It wasn’t Nathan who was the keeper of his soul, but God Himself. Although God used Nathan to rebuke David, it was no other than God who could bring restoration to him. David is a good example of going to the Father when we are in iniquity. Today, it is through His Son, Christ our Saviour.

Unfortunately, the religious masses do not go to the one true Shepherd, but run after their religious leaders with their esteemed religious titles believing they have the power over their souls. The 'Lord' is their hireling Pastor and anyone who thinks otherwise will be told to go find a Pastor to 'sit under' like a good church member should do.

In the Old Testament, God judged pastors for abusing, exploiting and misleading the sheep. In similar fashion, the modern Pastor is no different in practice today.

The priests did not say, ‘Where is the LORD?’ Those who handle the law did not know me; THE SHEPHERDS TRANSGRESSED AGAINST ME; the prophets prophesied by Baal and went after things that do not profit. – Jeremiah 2:8

When men are allowed positions of authority lording over others, the result is local Pastors in churches taking the place that is only reserved for Christ. When Christ walked the earth, he could see the many who were under heavy religious bondage and could see their dire spiritual condition. The fact is today, just like back then, there are no shortages of synagogues where men could find a Pharisee to sit under.

Christ was never pointing to other men to be their shepherd, but instead began to teach them the things of his Father when the crowds gathered around him. In this way, he began to shepherd them.

“‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a RULER WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.’” – Matthew 2:6

Christ publicly proclaimed that he was the Good Shepherd (Pastor). The problem with the modern notion of Pastor is that it is a tradition of man. Many have bought into the the fanciful idea that someone who has done to seminary school with formal training and has certificate to mount on their walls that they are entitled to be payed a salary and are deemed worthy of a the high position as Head over the brethren rather than Christ.

However, this what Christ has to say about these pompous pulpiteers.

All who came before me are THIEVES AND ROBBERS, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The THIEF comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. He who is a HIRED HAND and NOT A SHEPHERD, who does not own the sheep, sees the WOLF coming and leaves the sheep and flees...

...and the WOLF snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a HIRED HAND and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. – John 10:8-16

Christ exposed the false religious leaders for who they were. All they cared about were themselves and their personal gain.

Christ who is our Good Shepherd spoke stated that he was the Pastor of his sheep. Even the apostles recognized this and never spoke of themselves as being the Pastor of God’s children, nor did they look up to anyone other than Christ. The did not want, nor desired any exaltation from men.

We can see the demonic effect of the thousands of denominations today where men have decided that they are to be the Pastor over God’s people usurping the role of Christ.

For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. What I mean is that each one of you says, “I FOLLOW PAUL,” or “I FOLLOW APOLLOS,” or “I FOLLOW CEPHAS,” or “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? – 1 Corinthians 1:11-13

Paul addressed these apostates with rhetoric by asking if he was crucified for them. It is no different within the church system where the one-man-show is someone other than Christ. The Pastor and his minions are just like the carnal people of the world lusting after their own desires giving no reverence to Christ. The list of celebrities within Christianity are endless where the masses ogle over the latest wares of their deified leaders.

You will find no men within the religion of Christianity who are in unity of the faith in the spirit of Christ who desire to be his disciples. Where there are no disciples, it is simply a man-made agenda ignoring the standard that Christ and the apostles gave in Scripture.

When we allow Christ to be the Head, he fellowships with his disciples every day. It is not a 10 am on Sunday and 7 pm on Wednesday. It is 24/7, he is never too busy to faithfully give the special care that we need.

Don’t let the local Pastor within his four-walled kingdom bilk you of your time, money and personal relationship with God. Don’t fall for the deception of men who have a special titles and lofty positions as the decreed mediators between you and God. This will leave you disillusioned following after a shepherd who is not Christ.

Whose voice do you hear?

If it is your friendly neighbourhood institutional Pastor, then he is using you to glorify his personal agenda.

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone HEARS MY VOICE and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. – Revelation 3:20

Those within the church system are all on an aimless pursuit looking for spiritual nourishment feeding of the empty calories of the latest flavour of cotton candy that is distributed among the masses. Christ did not come to provide carnival amusements and spiritual pabulum, but spoke the Kingdom message that his Father gave him. To know this message you must first learn to hear his voice.

The Moses Complex

The modern Pastor not only usurps the role of Christ, but puts themselves in the same rank as Moses ruling over their church like the leader of Israel. They believe that they are more anointed deemed as God’s mouthpiece, which means that whatever comes out of their mouths are the very words of God. They believe that they are so anointed that anyone who speaks negatively of them will say, 'Do not touch God’s anointed.' Anyone who does not comply will be threatened that they will be be cursed.

These scare tactics are all too common among the Pastor's minions to scare them to comply with their wishes. The Pastor is never accountable to anyone because within the structure of top-down authority, he is supposedly only accountable to God.

Anyone who attempts to minister without the Pastor’s approval are considered usurping his authority as he is the one who approves what the positions and ministries are deemed appropriate among his ranks.

Again, as Christ walked the earth, he came across these same types of people who were blind to his teaching assuming the authority of Moses.

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, “The scribes and the Pharisees SIT ON MOSES’ SEAT – Matthew 23:1-2

Religious men want the same authority God gave Moses to teach the Law and to lead the people of Israel. The problem was that they were self-appointing themselves as leaders putting themselves in lofty positions that God did not give them. Modern pastors today are of the same feather exalting and lording themselves over others as the official interpreters of their brands of Christianity. They flaunt their achievements that God considers worthless and make the teaching of Christ null and void with their own opinions, ideologies and concepts.

They do all their deeds TO BE SEEN BY OTHERS. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, and they LOVE THE PLACE OF HONOR at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi by others. – Matthew 23:5-7

The church system is a mirror image of such people. Even Moses did not emphasize his rank, position, anointing and gifts to glorify himself. Moses’ desire was to bring his people to the Father, not to him.

The mental illness called the Moses complex has spread like a pandemic through the church system. The following verses reveal their dire symptoms.

But their MINDS WERE HARDENED. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same VEIL REMAINS UNLIFTED, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a VEIL LIES OVER THEIR HEARTS. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. – 2 Corinthian 3:14-16

These verses prove that these men do not know the way of Christ and those that follow them do not know him either. These people’s minds are hardened and their hearts covered so that they do not know the truth. They give lip service to Christ, but do not know him. They are blind to believing the Old Testament Scripture about Moses testifies of themselves.

You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that BEAR WITNESS ABOUT ME, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. – John 5:39-40

It is dangerous to continue to follow after men who are convinced that they are the 'Pastor' and believe they have the mantle of Moses over the Body of Christ. This is the standard method of operation of these men who exercise demonic control over people within the church system. It is authoritarianism and is in rebellion against God's ways for His people.

These people just sit, nod their heads and say, amen!" in their delusion of fawning after a money hungry dictator.

Who is your Pastor?

Jesus trained His disciples totally different than the ways of the Church system. Parents boast of their child going off to seminary school because they don’t want them “unlearned” and “ignorant” when they come back to teach their denominational agendas in Church. Howbeit that they have no clue what Scripture says on the matter?

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were UNEDUCATED, COMMON MEN, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition. - Acts 4:13

Paul was part of the religious elite as a Pharisee and had to be humbled to realize that his status was a hindrance to the true Gospel.

And we impart this in words NOT TAUGHT BY HUMAN WISDOM but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. – 1 Corinthians 2:13

We can either rely on a theologian, or the Spirit of Christ. What one chooses makes the distinction between what is called a Christian, or a disciple of Jesus Christ

I have come to the conclusion that most if not all that goes on within the Church system is corrupt. I personally cannot reconcile what goes on within this system with the Bible. The cookie-cutter Christian always have ways of justifying their traditions, but again they have to twist Scripture by adding or subtracting from the Gospel message to their own version of it.

Here is a promotional video of a Church I used to attend.

Notice the message is all about promoting the building and how the members feel within the comfort of the four walls, but not one mention of Jesus Christ. The message they preach is a social "gospel," which is attractive for bringing people in through the doors with the hope of creating more attending indoctrinated tithing members to serve in the idolatry of their man-made traditions.

The antichrist system of Church is about a place to attend, but the Ekklesia are living stones who are called out to preach the message of Jesus Christ, not into a building to hear the message of the Senior Pastor.

The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. - 1 Corinthians 2:14

This particular Hub seems like a good place to share this.

Theologian: A person who has read and studied religious thought and ideas could be a theologian. Professors in a university's religious studies department are usually theologians, and religious leaders are usually considered to be theologians. Theologian comes from theology, the study of God or religion, which has its root in the Greek word theologia, "an account of the gods."

Paul in his writings mentioned several items that are done to build up the body of Christ. Man in his wisdom has chosen to make them ministries and number them. God knows that the body of Christ needs assistance to come to the full knowledge of Christ. The Holy Spirit has been sent and equips members to do various functions in the body. This ability comes from God for those that are disciples. The gifts are free, supernatural, not learned from man. They are not for sale, not devices for control, freely give and received by His disciples.

Unless you have an incorrectly translated bible, you will not find any of the Spirit provided functions in the body of Christ to be that of a Theologian. Yet this is where all those that “get the calling” go for their training and parchment of authority that is required by man to function in man’s church. Strangely enough this alarms very few professing Christians. Today knowledge is not required to tell the difference between right and wrong. Knowledge is needed to be able to know right from close to right. This ability will happen in His Ekklesia, not man’s church. Man's church has become a path to destruction our hope is that each of us receives enough light to find our way off the broad path onto the narrow.

We are not to live with some truth but all truth. When the light shines there is no longer darkness. We need to stop turning off the lights because others don’t mind being almost right. Love has everything to do with right and wrong, good and evil, light and darkness, His way not our way. Wanting to please God is a daily challenge. Christ calls us too many things daily. Being His disciple we have a full day of things He mentions we should be doing. Because of Him we are light. Our brightness increases as we decrease and leave the teachings of the theologians behind.

Some light could be sunrise or sunset. The disciple that is ready to settle for some light may in fact be falling for sunset that is light being overcome by darkness. The light we are to follow is the light that removes darkness, not ushers it in. May our light always be a Sonrise. Our pupils must constrict and become small/narrow because of the light not large/broad leading to destruction because of darkness.

Matthew 6:22-23 "The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

Right on brother Grace- and the history and doctrines of all other denominations and non-denominations are similar.

but then what can you expect of a group whose founding "prophet" was a 13 year old girl and the group they were with collapsed for following false prophets. david koresh group and the jehovahs witness are also fruit of that collapse

ALL denominations were founded by greedy men, not always by the names of those they used

PandN- Another great article that spell it out in black and white. There is no way a reader should walk away from this and be confused. However, I'm sure there are some who will not believe or accept anything of what has been written within this article.

There is no true shepherd like that of Jesus Chirst. He protected those within His fold. And those of His flock know His voice and will follow Him. These are the disciple who make up the Body of Christ.

Those within modern churches we see today are not true shepherds. These so called pastor or so called shepherd of today will abandone their flock the moment the money dries up. Pastor's of today have a means to trap there new members into their churches in the from of baptism that commit the member to that church and only that church. The forms in which the used are know as of referred to as Baptismal Vows, Baptismal Covenant or Baptismal Promises. This is how the new members become tropped or better yet committed to the church. Meany have never heard of Baptismal Vows. Until just before the process in which a new member receives baptism into the church in which they will be baptized. These Vows or Promises mostly come in the from of questions that the new member MUST answer and must agree upon or else the baptism will on occure.

One of the prime example of who churches entrap their members using the means is the Seventh-day Adventist. They Have a Baptismal Vow that once agreed upon commits them to their church body. Within their Baptismal Vow is a list of 13 questions that they must answer to with a yes. If not then their baptism with not take place. However, since 2005 pastors of the SDA may now offer a Alteritive Vow in place of the Baptismal Vow. The pastor has this option. The followings is a list of 6 of the 13 questions within the SDA Baptismal Vow. They are the last 6 of the 13 and numbered 8 through 13.

      8. Do you accept the Biblical teachings of the Spiritual gifts, and do you believe that the gifts of prophecy in the remnant church is one of the identifying marks of the church?

      9. Do you believe God's Remnant Church, and is it your purpose to support the church by your TITHES and OFFERINGS, and your personnal efforts and influence?

      10. Do you believe that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and that you honor God by, caring for your body, avoiding the use of that which is harmful, abstaining from ALL UNCLEAN foods, from the use, manufacture or sell of alcoholic beverges, the use, manufacture or sale of tobacco in any from for human consumption, and for misuse of, or trafficingin, narcotics or other drugs?

      11. Knowing and understanding the fundamentional bible principle as taught by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, is it your purpose, by the Grace of God, to order your life in harmony with these principles?

12.Do you accept the New Testament teachings of the Baptism by immerson, and do you desire to be so baptized as a public expression of your faith in Christ and in the forgiveness of sins.

(Here's the one that really gets my goat)

      13. Do you believe that the Seveth-day Adventist Church is the remnant Church of Bible prophecy, Revelation 12:17, and that people of all nations, race, language are invited and accepted INTO IT'S fellowship? Do you desire to be a MEMBER of this local congergation of the world church?

With in these question I see no commitment on the part of the pastor to Shepherd the sheep, do you? Here we see where the member will have to support the "body of the Church". Since when did Jesus make tithes an issue for baptism? Since when did "not eating unclean foods" become an issue for baptism? Since when do one have to agree that Seventh-day Adventist being a remnant church become an issue for baptism?

This is how the "Shepherds of the church maintain the firm grip on their members. To inclued things like forced tithings. This is a case where the flock takes care of and protects the shepherd and not the other way around. And this is where the member become part of the "body of a church" , not the body of Christ.

There are many examples of this when one researches the Baptismal Vow, Baptismal Covenants and Baptismal Promises of the many denominational churches out there. And none of these are biblical. But these are the ways in which members become trapped as members of churches. So, once the so called shepherd of the church has baptized it newest members, he or she can milk them for all their worth until the money dries out or the shepherd (pastor) retires, which ever comes first.
