The False Pastor and the Moses Complex
The institutional church system has a top down leadership structure where the person who sits on top is called the Pastor. Those within this religious system give lip service to Scripture, but in action deny Kingdom principles that were laid out by Christ and the apostles. Most people assume that their popular hierarchical structure is of God because of its popularity believing that it is God’s will to look up to and be led by a prominent salaried official.
When talking to church folk they will ask, 'Who is your pastor?' They will expect a response expecting you to refer to a Pastor whose vocation is attached to a denominational building where people gather to be led by the vision of this particular man or woman.
The problem with the word 'Pastor' within the sphere of Christianity is contradictory to the proper usage in Scripture.
When someone asks, 'Who is you pastor?' our immediate should be, 'Christ.' Obviously this response is not what a church member would expect to hear because they are conditioned to follow someone else. This leaves them with a blank stare as they are not quite sure how to respond.
Pastor - Shepherd
'Pastor' and 'Shepherd' can be used somewhat synonymously in Scripture referring to a particular person who watches over their sheepfold and defends against predators to the point of risking their lives for them. Their goal is to take care of the sick and wounded desiring full healing for them. They will go out of their way to go after any sheep that have gone astray so that they may return back to the sheepfold. A Shepherd desires to lead the sheep to green pastures and still waters so that they may have the nourishment they need to live. The Shepherd knows each one of his sheep by name and the sheep know his voice because their Shepherd is no stranger them. The sheep love their Shepherd and trust their lives to him.
When we look at the characteristics set forth for a Shepherd in Scripture something quite alarming comes to the light when contrasted for what is called 'Pastor' within the church system. Church members have been indoctrinated in to believing that their Pastor is the keeper of their soul; therefore, Christ to them is never a thought over their highly decorated esteemed official who mandates their every move.
THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. – Psalm 23:1
Those among the ekklesia understand, just like David did, that only God can restore their souls. David knew that only God could forgive his sins through humility and repentance. It wasn’t Nathan who was the keeper of his soul, but God Himself. Although God used Nathan to rebuke David, it was no other than God who could bring restoration to him. David is a good example of going to the Father when we are in iniquity. Today, it is through His Son, Christ our Saviour.
Unfortunately, the religious masses do not go to the one true Shepherd, but run after their religious leaders with their esteemed religious titles believing they have the power over their souls. The 'Lord' is their hireling Pastor and anyone who thinks otherwise will be told to go find a Pastor to 'sit under' like a good church member should do.
In the Old Testament, God judged pastors for abusing, exploiting and misleading the sheep. In similar fashion, the modern Pastor is no different in practice today.
The priests did not say, ‘Where is the LORD?’ Those who handle the law did not know me; THE SHEPHERDS TRANSGRESSED AGAINST ME; the prophets prophesied by Baal and went after things that do not profit. – Jeremiah 2:8
When men are allowed positions of authority lording over others, the result is local Pastors in churches taking the place that is only reserved for Christ. When Christ walked the earth, he could see the many who were under heavy religious bondage and could see their dire spiritual condition. The fact is today, just like back then, there are no shortages of synagogues where men could find a Pharisee to sit under.
Christ was never pointing to other men to be their shepherd, but instead began to teach them the things of his Father when the crowds gathered around him. In this way, he began to shepherd them.
“‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a RULER WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.’” – Matthew 2:6
Christ publicly proclaimed that he was the Good Shepherd (Pastor). The problem with the modern notion of Pastor is that it is a tradition of man. Many have bought into the the fanciful idea that someone who has done to seminary school with formal training and has certificate to mount on their walls that they are entitled to be payed a salary and are deemed worthy of a the high position as Head over the brethren rather than Christ.
However, this what Christ has to say about these pompous pulpiteers.
All who came before me are THIEVES AND ROBBERS, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The THIEF comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. He who is a HIRED HAND and NOT A SHEPHERD, who does not own the sheep, sees the WOLF coming and leaves the sheep and flees...
...and the WOLF snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a HIRED HAND and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. – John 10:8-16
Christ exposed the false religious leaders for who they were. All they cared about were themselves and their personal gain.
Christ who is our Good Shepherd spoke stated that he was the Pastor of his sheep. Even the apostles recognized this and never spoke of themselves as being the Pastor of God’s children, nor did they look up to anyone other than Christ. The did not want, nor desired any exaltation from men.
We can see the demonic effect of the thousands of denominations today where men have decided that they are to be the Pastor over God’s people usurping the role of Christ.
For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. What I mean is that each one of you says, “I FOLLOW PAUL,” or “I FOLLOW APOLLOS,” or “I FOLLOW CEPHAS,” or “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? – 1 Corinthians 1:11-13
Paul addressed these apostates with rhetoric by asking if he was crucified for them. It is no different within the church system where the one-man-show is someone other than Christ. The Pastor and his minions are just like the carnal people of the world lusting after their own desires giving no reverence to Christ. The list of celebrities within Christianity are endless where the masses ogle over the latest wares of their deified leaders.
You will find no men within the religion of Christianity who are in unity of the faith in the spirit of Christ who desire to be his disciples. Where there are no disciples, it is simply a man-made agenda ignoring the standard that Christ and the apostles gave in Scripture.
When we allow Christ to be the Head, he fellowships with his disciples every day. It is not a 10 am on Sunday and 7 pm on Wednesday. It is 24/7, he is never too busy to faithfully give the special care that we need.
Don’t let the local Pastor within his four-walled kingdom bilk you of your time, money and personal relationship with God. Don’t fall for the deception of men who have a special titles and lofty positions as the decreed mediators between you and God. This will leave you disillusioned following after a shepherd who is not Christ.
Whose voice do you hear?
If it is your friendly neighbourhood institutional Pastor, then he is using you to glorify his personal agenda.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone HEARS MY VOICE and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. – Revelation 3:20
Those within the church system are all on an aimless pursuit looking for spiritual nourishment feeding of the empty calories of the latest flavour of cotton candy that is distributed among the masses. Christ did not come to provide carnival amusements and spiritual pabulum, but spoke the Kingdom message that his Father gave him. To know this message you must first learn to hear his voice.
The Moses Complex
The modern Pastor not only usurps the role of Christ, but puts themselves in the same rank as Moses ruling over their church like the leader of Israel. They believe that they are more anointed deemed as God’s mouthpiece, which means that whatever comes out of their mouths are the very words of God. They believe that they are so anointed that anyone who speaks negatively of them will say, 'Do not touch God’s anointed.' Anyone who does not comply will be threatened that they will be be cursed.
These scare tactics are all too common among the Pastor's minions to scare them to comply with their wishes. The Pastor is never accountable to anyone because within the structure of top-down authority, he is supposedly only accountable to God.
Anyone who attempts to minister without the Pastor’s approval are considered usurping his authority as he is the one who approves what the positions and ministries are deemed appropriate among his ranks.
Again, as Christ walked the earth, he came across these same types of people who were blind to his teaching assuming the authority of Moses.
Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, “The scribes and the Pharisees SIT ON MOSES’ SEAT – Matthew 23:1-2
Religious men want the same authority God gave Moses to teach the Law and to lead the people of Israel. The problem was that they were self-appointing themselves as leaders putting themselves in lofty positions that God did not give them. Modern pastors today are of the same feather exalting and lording themselves over others as the official interpreters of their brands of Christianity. They flaunt their achievements that God considers worthless and make the teaching of Christ null and void with their own opinions, ideologies and concepts.
They do all their deeds TO BE SEEN BY OTHERS. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, and they LOVE THE PLACE OF HONOR at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi by others. – Matthew 23:5-7
The church system is a mirror image of such people. Even Moses did not emphasize his rank, position, anointing and gifts to glorify himself. Moses’ desire was to bring his people to the Father, not to him.
The mental illness called the Moses complex has spread like a pandemic through the church system. The following verses reveal their dire symptoms.
But their MINDS WERE HARDENED. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same VEIL REMAINS UNLIFTED, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a VEIL LIES OVER THEIR HEARTS. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. – 2 Corinthian 3:14-16
These verses prove that these men do not know the way of Christ and those that follow them do not know him either. These people’s minds are hardened and their hearts covered so that they do not know the truth. They give lip service to Christ, but do not know him. They are blind to believing the Old Testament Scripture about Moses testifies of themselves.
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that BEAR WITNESS ABOUT ME, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. – John 5:39-40
It is dangerous to continue to follow after men who are convinced that they are the 'Pastor' and believe they have the mantle of Moses over the Body of Christ. This is the standard method of operation of these men who exercise demonic control over people within the church system. It is authoritarianism and is in rebellion against God's ways for His people.
These people just sit, nod their heads and say, amen!" in their delusion of fawning after a money hungry dictator.
Who is your Pastor?
- The Senior Pastor has been Disqualified
Many salaried-to-serve professional clergymen refuse to believe that they are working in vain. Stop putting your confidence in these men and trust in the Lord in what He has to say to His people.
- Men with Titles in False Churches
The modern “church” is full of men with titles, but these professional titles that are pinned upon these men do not come from God, but men themselves.
- The Pastoral Office of the Modern Church is not Biblical
The office of the head pastor is about a fundamental figure within the institutionalized church who is met with praise and accolades by dispelling God's Word to the masses, but has it been corrupted?
- Church Government
Submitting to God requires discernment and understanding. It is not about conforming to a religious institutionalized system of the modern “church” where you become a slave to the traditions of man.
