The Person God is Helping
Everyone at a time or another in the world needs assistance from people. But it is sure that no one can receive help from people living in the world except the person has at first received help from God, the creator of the world and earth. It is when the creator of the world and earth decides to help a man that humans would be ready to help the person.
In the biblical accounts, we read an account of a man whom Yahweh says he is the man after his own heart, this man is called David.
“But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.” (1 Sa 13:14)
“And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.” (Act 13:22)
It is after Yahweh has decided to be helping David that people started coming unto him to be rendering help for him in various ways.
I will want us to see what one of those people who drew near unto him to be assisting him said unto him those days from the book of first chronicles 12 verse 18.
“Then the spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.” (1 Ch 12:18)
In this book we shall see that David hasn’t been crowned as the king over the entire nation of Israel, he was being pursued here and there by the first King over Israel, King Saul.
The enmity between David and King Saul started after David killed Goliath and the women sang a song in praise of David.
“And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.
“And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.
“And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, they have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?
“And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.” (1 Sa 18:6-9)
The Hebrew word used for “eyed” in verse nine above is “עוןo”, which when Romanized becomes ‛âvan (phonetical spelling is aw-van') which means to watch (with jealousy). As from when the women sang the song has King Saul became jealousy of the young lad. As from then he couldn’t speak peaceably unto him again, he saw him as a threat, to the growth and expansion of his kingdom.
In the meanwhile, what the young lad did, he did for Yahweh for the progress and establishment of the Kingdom in the area.
This very true this day, when an unknown person in the town, country perform exploits in a certain field, those who had been occupying pivotal positions in that field would start envying the person, they would become jealous of the person and would aim at pulling the person down at all cost, and sometimes if not all the times they would be aiming for the life of the person so that he be killed.
Poll 1: Your Disposition
What is your disposition to naïve star in the society?
Poll 2: Support
Do you support the emerging star in your church or discipline or locality?
Let us check our hearts, which kind of heart do we have to a naïve person who is just breaking new grounds in the discipline we are in? is our hearts like the heart of King Saul to David? If our heart is like that of King Saul to David God is using this medium to talk to us to have a rethink on this, and change.
As from this day forward it has been in the mind of the King of Israel, Saul to kill the young lad, because he wants his kingdom to be enthroned, he wants his children to inherit his kingdom the kingdom which he does not have a grip over again since he has failed to satisfy the Lord, since he failed to obey the commandments of the Lord..
Because the King of the land was out to kill David, he started running from town to town he had to resting place, but despite running here and there without a rest of mind, God was still helping him as ascertained by the Amasai in first chronicles 12 verse 18.
Before I state some of the things that the person who is helped by God (Yahweh) enjoys as we can deduce from first chronicles 12, I will want us to know what the meaning of help is.
Google defines help as making it easier or possible for someone to do something by offering them one’s amenities or resources.
No one can protect himself in the world. Is it not amazing that several different gadgets that some people install in their houses, offices, streets some urchins, robbers, terrorists would still break those and enter the house destroy and cart away the person’s possessions? And sometimes even rapped the owners of the house. These point to the fact that though we are trying our best to ensure that we live in safety, but we cannot protect ourselves if the Lord has not protected us.
The bible says, “except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” (Psa. 127:1)
Protection in Hebrew word is “סתרה סתר”, when this word is Romanized it becomes sêther sithrâh (which can be pronounced as say'-ther, sith-raw') which means cover, hiding place, secret place.
From the entire army of the nation of Israel, God was the one covering his servant David from the hands of his chief enemy which was the king.
This, protection, is one of the things enjoy by anyone God is helping in the world.
Provision is defined as action of providing or supplying something for use, examples are foods, drinks, equipment. This word is found eleven times in the King James Version of the bible.
The following Hebrew words; “צדה צידה”, Romanized form tsêydâh tsêdâh (pronounced as tsay-daw', tsay-daw'); “ציד” Romanized form is tsayid (phonetic spelling tsah'-yid); “צוּד”, Romanized form is tsûd (pronounced as tsood); and the Greek word “πρόνοια”, Romanized form pronoia (pronounced as pron'-oy-ah) meat, victuals, food, chase, care are used for provision in the bible.
God was providing for what he needs because he was the one helping him. He has equally promised to provide for believers needs according to his riches in glory.
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Php 4:19)
This is defined as activity that supports or encourages a cause, venture or aim to get to a higher position or rank. All of us in the world aspire to move out of our present position to another position that is higher than the present one we are occupying. But we cannot move out of our low estate to a higher estate without the input of God, this is why the author of the book of psalms says,
“For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.
“But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” (Psa 75:6-7)
The word south in this verse in Hebrew means desert. The author is saying promotion, getting to a higher position does not come from the desert place.
The Hebrew word for promotion here is “רוּם”, Romanized form is rûm (pronounced as room) which means to raise or rise, promote, be lifted. Being lifted in one’s endeavor cannot be achieved without the input of Yahweh this David knows and he kept close to him and he, God keeps promoting him though the king wages war against him, all the soldiers of the country were sent out to look for him but this doesn’t prevent God from continuing to raise him up.
Hannah the mother of Samuel after she gave birth to Samuel (and perhaps other children) while offering praises unto the Lord attests to it that it is only God who lifts people, no one can do so if God hasn’t done it.
“The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.
“The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.
“He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and he hath set the world upon them.” (1 Sa 2:6-8)
4. Become Great
No one in the world wants to die a pauper, want to die unknown. But as we all aspire for the position of greatness, it is very clear that it is God who does this, and it is those whom God help that he will make great in the world.
“For at that time day by day there came to David to help him, until it was a great host, like the host of God.” (1 Ch 12:22)
The author of the book of first chronicles chapter twelve shows us how God makes David great. He became great because he continually receives people from far and near who joined forces with him until he becomes a very great army even within the country. He became great because he has many people, many soldiers who are loyal to him.
Overcomer is defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary as someone who overcomes something, someone who conquers or defeats enemy.
Overcomer is related to overcome. Overcome in Hebrew is “גּוּד”, Romanized form is gûd, (pronounced as goode) wjile in greek this word is used “νικάω”, which if Romanized is nikaō (pronounced as nik-ah'-o) which means invade, crowd upon, conquer, subdue, prevail, get victory.
Because God was helping the man called David, he was conquering his enemies within and without, in fact dangerous animals which some soldiers cannot overcome, this man was able to overcome and kill those animals with mere sling and staff, because the Lord was with him.
“And David said unto Saul, thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
“And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
“Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear:…” (1 Sa 17:34-36a)
The person who the Lord is with will always overcome enemies, overcome troubling issues and situations in the world. Jesus says, “… I have overcome the world” (Joh 16:33d), because he has overcome the world, it shows that he is stronger than those powers ruling and governing the world systems, he dispossesses them of their armors and other weapons of war which they are using on believers binding them making them powerless before his children and has divided or shared their properties among us, his children.
“But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.” (Luk 11:22)
This that he has done gives us, his children continual victory over the wicked one, the devil in the world.
“I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
“I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.” (1 Jn 2:13-14 (Emphasis Mine))
Since we have overcome the enemies we therefore need not fear again, therefore apostle Paul says he has not given us the spirit of fear to fear again but we have been given the spirit of boldness, and power to possess our possessions.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Ti 1:7)
Poll 3: Fear
Before reading this, do you believe you have overcome the wicked one as a believer?
“As believers you must know that you have complete victory over the wicked one, who is the devil because you are in Christ well hidden in him and him in God.”
Therefore, you do not need to entertain fear again but have to walk in the victory which the Lord has given us, walk as a triumphant person always in the Lord Jesus.
6. Fight For Him
God always fights for this man, as such he would hand over his enemies unto him easy and quiet. It is well laid out in the scriptures that he will fight with those who fight his children and this promise was fulfilled in the life of David while he was on earth.
“But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.” (Isa 49:25)
The word contend with here is “רוּב ריבo”, Romanized form is rı̂yb rûb (pronounced as reeb, roob) meaning wrangle strive, grapple
The Lord always fights for him because he is helping him, “beat(ing) down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.” (Psa 89:23)
This is also applicable to us, believers, for the Lord fights for us daily, he defends us before the enemies and our antagonizes all because he loves us, and he is helping us.
“It is the person whom one loves that one would stand up to defend before the enemies (except for lawyers who are doing that for monetary gains)”
But God is not doing that for monetary gains neither because we have anything to offer him in return which he has not, but he is doing this fighting for us because of the unflinching love he has for us.
As I bring this to a close, I want you as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to know that as the Lord helps David those days, he is also delighted in helping us these days because we belong unto him. However, if you are yet to belong unto him, you must ponder on this and come unto him today, because if you will enjoy these benefits, if you want him to assist you, you have to be his’. When you be his’ it is assuredly certain that you will be enlisted among those who will constantly enjoy these and many more from the Lord God.
