The Power Is Love

Updated on February 10, 2013

Mike's Common Sense

The age-old battle for Man to figure out is, "Do I try to acquire power, or do I follow the path of love?"

A quick look through our past shows that a vast majority of people are in the business of getting power. The pitiful few that have sought love are the martyrs that we all are so familiar with. Even in our so-called "enlightened times" the occultists, the religions, the political systems -- most everybody -- is very interested in power.

Power is, as they say, intoxicating. It must be some some really good shit, considering the millions of people murdered for the sake of power.

MIKE'S LAW: "The final lesson to be learned is love."

Power is for the ego, or the "small self". The ego has a need to have attention paid to it. The more attention paid to an ego, the greater its feelings of self-importance. The more self-importance an ego feels, the farther that ego places itself from others. This is the breeding ground for all kinds of atrocities.

When one seeks love over power, the ego shrinks. One starts to relate to others -- to care. One starts to think about something other than the small self. This is a major step in one's spiritual evolution.

Power is always held closely, lest you lose it, but to be had, one has to give love.

That's the great thing about love. You can give away all you want, and you will never run out. The more love you give, the more you receive; and there is nothing more intoxicating than love.

That's the power of love.

I so agree, Mike. Many people think that giving love is weak somehow, but its not, its actually quite empowering as an open heart connects to who we really are, souls in a human body.

Fascinating hub... There are some other theories on power, the one that comes to mind is the four stages of power.... which discusses a development of power through personal to social and then almost onto altruism... Sorry to say I can't remember the name of the author... Must say though that much harder to have theories on love... that one leaves me baffled... Great hub... Thanks Jeff

Hello! I agree with you in the worldview sense of power v.s love. Some personal definitions of love look a lot like power though: on the global level, this is why some of the greatest atrocities of human history have happened through obedience (even passionate alliance) to the powerful, and on an individual level, we see domestic violence and abuse of loved ones . People may believe sincerely that they are acting for their family, country or God because they have been taught a version of power masquerading as love. Many faithful soldiers have martyred themselves to causes we may see as pure evil. I believe one needs to experience selfless love & kindness to know the difference and be taught a paradigm of human civilization not based on the acquisition of land, money, and power. That civilization does not yet exist but it's always so nice to meet people who want it to happen!!! :-)
