The False Ideology of Self-Improvement in the Church System

Updated on March 9, 2017

Today, within the man-made church system, the emphasis is put on your own self- improvement instead of the absolute need for repentance. This religious shiny lacquer is poured on the masses to 'cover' their sins in their feel-good environments and templates believing that focusing on feeling good about yourself and being recognized for them equates to doing things God's way.

Victoria Osteen - 'We are doing it for ourself.'

Unfortunately, many believe in a corrupted nature from the moment of birth that gives them an excuse and relief that they are 'covered' because of their 'belief,' even though they continue to gratify the desires of their flesh. They believe that their past, present and even future sins have already been forgiven. Doing something wrong is blamed as part of their sin nature and cannot really their fault because being born a sinner is not an choice. The 'Jesus' they believe in manages their sins, instead of destroying them.

The easy approach is to console the people’s carnal desires is to move away from repentance and victory over sins. Instead, human empathy and self-improvement strategies are preached upon the pulpits to tickle ears. Slide-shows are shown in buildings called church showing their religious workers feeding the poor and needy. This is all meant to pull on the heartstrings of the people that watch them for the intended purpose of filling the offering plates.

Most people who see hungry and starving kids, the homeless and the less fortunate will have empathy towards them. Even the vilest of sinner’s hearts can even have some sort of compassion towards others. Many Hollywood and mainstream music stars are part of famous charitable organizations that go out to into the most poverty stricken areas of the world using their resources to help set up shelters, orphanages, food distribution, water sanitization as well as many other things to reach out to and help the poor.

We know that the poor and needy will not deny things such as food, medicine and shelter that are given to them. When you have nothing, you are desperate. With acts of kindness, you can throw just about anything in with it. Atheists, Mormons, Catholics, Buddhists, Christians, Muslims, Jehovah Witnesses and many other religious groups can throw in their propaganda because those who are rash enough will gobble up whatever is given to them.

The question to ask is, does God have anything to do with these kind of behaviours?

Feeding the Poor to Create Dependency

Many believe that when people respond to acts of kindness that it is a guarantee that it's done with God's approval.

Are the poor and needy really going to turn down anything given to them?

After all, the weak are now at the mercy of their benefactors. They are going to listen to whatever someone is going to say them, especially if they are bringing clean water, food, shelter, and medicine. Exploiting people in their dire need is not hard to do because you can add just about anything into the mix and they will take it. The religious media does not lie. Unfortunately, charity and compassion do not go beyond the propaganda that helps give a 'good' name to the money grabbing denominational religious corporations that make the poor subjects of their own greed and advertisements.

Don't get me wrong, helping the poor and needy should be commanded by all people, but when it is done for self-glorification with administrators making lavish salaries off the money that was given with the intention of helping others in need, it is corruption.

One of the principles of the Kingdom of God is seeking truth. Having compassion and empathy towards others in itself does not constitute a sin, but believing that God approves of it all is in error. The Spirit of Truth does not move in deception and does not exploit for the glorification of man-made agendas.

To seek first the Kingdom of God is not first and foremost about self-improvement, but a call to repentance. Success is not built upon the popular notion of making people comfortable with themselves and then indoctrinating them with a certain brand of religion.

The foremost concern of the Kingdom of God is seeking it first and it’s righteousness. Without it, you will make the poor and the needy suffer even more. People in desperation will fall for the lure of man's 'sacred' charitable brand-names. In places like Africa today, we can see the aftermath of the religious good deeds of many that helped feed and clothe the poor, but the people are still spiritually dead because they have bought into the false ideologies of those that showed them their version of 'compassion.' Pious men came in the name of 'compassion' with the ultimate purpose to exploit them.

When Christ was compassionate towards others his ultimate intention was to point them to reconcile with His Father, as he knew that would bring them to everlasting life.

The Measure of Success

The measures of success today are the vain 'righteous' efforts of the salaried-to-serve clergy to win people in the name of empathy. Many believe that singing kumbaya with social justice initiatives will show successful real world results.

Do they really?

Are repentance and redemption in their cards?

Do the standards of today align with the standards of Scripture?

According to Scripture, repentance through Christ coupled with the fruit of the faith by the working of love and being doers of the word are the effects of accepting the true Gospel message.

The outworking of compassion through self-improvement support groups can help people come out of the direst situations. Certain psychological effects coupled with warm and fuzziness can give the illusion that battle is 'won.'

On the surface this may seem true, but people just trade one addiction, or dire situation for another. The new improved person will become socially acceptable as the lacquer of man-made religious indoctrination, or worldly ideologies are poured all over them.

You see, compassion in itself cannot fill the great need inside of people. Self-improvement will not fill their void.

An improved version of an old life with a dedicated self-improvement program does not necessitate that God is in it.

Does it not say in Scripture that man can do no good of himself in the flesh?

For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, IN MY FLESH. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. – Romans 7:18

The Primary Concern

The foremost concern of those of the Kingdom of God today is repentance that is proven by our action by being doers of the Word. The ministry of repentance is about having compassion towards others through the spirit of God's Son, our Messiah. The eternal needs of others should take precedence over the temporal.

But SEEK FIRST the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. – Matthew 6:33

But be DOERS OF THE WORD, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. - James 1:22

When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had COMPASSION ON THEM, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he BEGAN TO TEACH them many things. - Mark 6:34

Notice the example of Christ that his compassion came first with teaching of the Kingdom. He focused on the eternal need of others first, then moved to their temporal needs. He did not ask others for money to do the ministry of his Father, but was totally dependent on him for his own needs and supplying the needs of others.

Mark 6:39-44

Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties. And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. AND THEY ALL ATE AND WERE SATISFIED. And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.

Most of the predominant compassion organizations of the world, including the religious ones preach a message of improvement, but completely ignore the genuine message of the Gospel of repentance.

Of course, there are the spiritual persuaders that make people repeat a canned prayer and by magic they are 'saved.' This is just a tool to gauge their success, as they return to their salaried spiritual benefactors to receive their accolades. Their stories of success are told upon the elevated stages within church buildings to receive their worldly glory and monies. The people rejoice as their heart strings are pulled calling for the offering plates to be passed around.

Is this something that is genuine, or is it something that is staged to give people what they want to watch and listen to?

Is this the work of the Holy Spirit?

Let’s take a look at what Scripture states.

And when he comes, he will CONVICT THE WORLD CONCERNING SIN AND RIGHTEOUSNESS AND JUDGMENT: CONCERNING SIN, because they do not believe in me – John 16:8-9

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you INTO ALL THE TRUTH – John 16:13

The religious denominational agenda of compassion that the church system deems as the 'gospel' is not allowing the Holy Spirit to convict people of their sin so they may turn to God's righteous ways through His Son to avoid Judgement.

Without the result of any of this happening, the only conclusion is that the Holy Spirit is not working, or present in them at all. All the religious zeal in the world to do what man believes is right will not break the stronghold of darkness and sin over people’s lives.

You see, an improved comfortable version of an old life will not make a difference in God’s eyes no matter how much passion and emotion has gone into the endeavour.

True repentance and the unadulterated Gospel get right to the issues of the heart. It is about putting more focus eternal needs before the temporal.

The sincere conviction of the Holy Spirit is about planting the seeds of the Kingdom with the goal to motivate all people to see that their ultimate need is to reconcile with their Father in Heaven through His Son. There will be no entrance into the Kingdom of God by remaining in your old ways, no matter how self-improved, well-fed and well-clothed you have become. Repentance is not just a change of mind, but also a change of heart of wanting and desiring to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.

Putting faith into action is heeding the words of Christ. Love and compassion towards others are important, but first and foremost, it is that our focus must be on seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness for others and ourselves. Without this precedent, no one will be effective for the Kingdom.

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will EAT or what you will DRINK, nor about YOUR BODY, what you will put on. Is not life more than FOOD, and the body more than CLOTHING? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father FEEDS them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about CLOTHING?...

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so CLOTHES the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more CLOTHE you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we EAT?’ or ‘What shall we DRINK?’ or ‘What shall we WEAR?’...

For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. BUT SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE ADDED TO YOU. – Matthew 6:25-33

It may be great that you feed the hungry, clothe the poor and visit the sick, but unless you proclaim repentance and the forgiveness of sin through Christ, it is not the Gospel.

What profits a man if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul?

Then he opened their minds to UNDERSTAND the Scriptures, and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that REPENTANCE FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS SHOULD BE PROCLAIMED IN HIS NAME to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. - Luke 24:45-47

Do you believe the initiatives of self-improvement are the Gospel?
