The Secret of my Manifestations,  Roadblocks and Beliefs

Updated on December 3, 2008

Roadblocks and Beliefs

This is the second article in a series on manifestation tips and tricks. Many of you watched The Secret movie or have read books on manifesting, only to be disappointed when you couldn't attract what you wanted. This hub addresses the ways in which we sabotage our selves. This is some times refered to as the secret behind the secret. I'll explain how unbeknownced to you, you are knocking your manifest train right of its tracks. How to recognize these behaviours and correct them. So, you can stop wasting your energy pushing and pulling your desires at the same time. You'll learn that by getting out of your own way, you can use the law of attraction more effectively.

Derailing the Manifest Train

Don’t block the Universe with negative beliefs. If you have doubts regarding anything you want, you are severely slowing their arrival. These can be beliefs you were raised with, or excuses you make for areas of lack in your life.

Beliefs like: “Money brings out the worst in people” and “You can’t have everything you want.“

Your negative beliefs can take a desire that is flying to you at record speed and stop it in it tracks. Just last weekend my husband was telling my uncle how he wanted to build an outside kitchen area with a barbecue on our back porch. He was describing it in detail. I smiled because I knew then it would be manifesting soon. I could practically hear the freight train coming with my new outdoor pizza oven. He was so enthusiastic about it. His wanting was obvious. He was very clear about what he wanted; he’d even torn a picture out of SunSet Magazine of how he wanted it to look. It was going to be beautiful. Then I heard the screech of breaks as his locomotive locked up its wheels. “Too bad we’ll never be able to afford it. I just can’t get ahead” This statement null and voided the outdoor kitchen he’d started manifesting.

Positive Beliefs

Its negative beliefs about wealth, that kibosh a lot of good dreams. Recognize them when you say them and then think to yourself instead, one of these positive little phrases:

  • The Universe is expanding and so are my opportunities.
  • My boat comes in, every ten minutes.
  • I am the creator of my reality.
  • Lack mentality is a myth.
  • I’m happy right where I am.
  • Joy begets joy.
  • You never know where money will turn up next.
  • I was just born lucky.
  • Money loves me.
  • The Universe is always throwing money at me.
  • They're printing more money for me right now.
  • I always get checks in my mailbox.
  • I'm always in the right place at the right time.
  • Money allows me to help my fellow man.
  • Scarcity is just an illusion.
  • My talents and experience are worth millions.
  • Opportunities fall like rain.

Negative Beliefs

Do you ever think, worse yet say out loud and share with others, any of the following negative or limiting beliefs?

  • Money doesn’t grow on trees.
  • There’s never enough.
  • We have only just enough to get by.
  • You have to have money to make money.
  • Money is the root of all evil.
  • All the good ideas have already been thought.
  • All the good jobs have already been taken.
  • Waste not, want not.
  • A dollar saved is a dollar earned.
  • Money corrupts.
  • You have to work hard to get ahead.
  • Opportunity only knocks once.
  • I was born unlucky.
  • I’ll never get ahead.
  • Every time we get ahead, calamity strikes.
  • Its just a vicious cycle.
  • I can not afford that.
  • Money is tight right now.
  • Everyone is feeling the pinch.

“You don't have to think about money in order to let in money. You just can't think about lack of money, to let in money.”

Changing Beliefs

How do you change deep seated negative beliefs? Well luckily you don’t have to. One remedy is to just not focus on them. Focus on the desire instead. Focus on the Pizza Oven, not on who’s gonna pay for it. Think about the details of the project but stop short of the negative belief. If you hear yourself say “but” stop! But all the contractors are busy. But I really can’t afford it. But we can’t agree on the roof. Don’t spend any time on the negatives. Don’t give them anymore pull. Abruptly switch your thoughts back to the want. Back where your happy place is. Focus on the end result, not how you are going to get there.

Louise Hay: You Can Heal Your Life: The Movie

Another way to stop the flow of positive experiences in your life, believe it or not, is humility. Many of us were raised to believe humility is an honorable trait. This can really work against you though, if you constantly down play the positives in your life or brush off compliments.

When someone says, “You really look like you’ve lost weight!” and you respond with, “Its just the clothes,” or “I still have a long way to go,” you have actually started attracting more weight. The easiest neutral response is to say, “Thank You.” Instead why not use these opportunities to take a step forward. A compliment is a perfect opportunity for an affirmation. Follow “You’re looking thinner,” with “Thanks, the weight is just falling off,” or “ And I feel better too!” Get that law of attraction working for you.

If someone admires your material possessions don’t point out their faults or make excuses why you have them. For some of us its a knee jerk reaction. Someone may say, “What a lovely home” and your response is, “Its a long way from finished.” They may say, “Nice Rig!” and you reply, “But the gas bills are killing me.” Again, “Thank you,” always works instead, or “I really feel blessed,” or if they are open minded, “Have you ever read about the Law of Attraction...”

Remove Limiting Beliefs with EFT

One last stumbling block I want to mention is the feeling of unworthiness. If you feel you are not worthy you will really slow down the manifest train. God/Source Energy/The Universe created you as a creator. You are supposed to create things into your experience. You are so loved by your creator; there is no one more worthy than you.

An offshoot of unworthiness, is the fear of taking from someone else. The fear that there is not enough to go around. On a spiritual level in may seem immoral to attract things to yourself when there are others in need. Please know that the Universe is expanding, and opportunities are also. Take for example shampoo manufacturing. I traced an interesting e-mail back to Rush Limbough’s website that stated in 1906, “Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo.” Today most women believe they must wash their hair every or every other day with specially formulated shampoos. Can you see how this change in belief has changed and expanded the shampoo industry. The internet, of course, is another prime example of these exploding opportunities. Don’t try to guess how we will all be taken care of, if we all focus on abundance; we will.

Change Your Mind

So, does this mean you need to start monitoring your thoughts? Does this mean you always need see the glass as half full? Does this mean you should go around with rose colored glasses trying to be positive and happy all the time? Does this mean you should turn away from all the things in the world that bring you down? No. Unless you actually want your dreams to consistently come true, then yes.

I've read Wattles and I have done binaural meditation... but together would be something new!

Another great hub. I would like to add that another good way to clear up limiting beliefs is through guided prosperity meditations.

In this link is the summary of Wallace D. Wattles Science of getting rich set to binaural beat frequencies, which aid in the absorption into the subconscious.

Pam, thanks for reading. We all have to remind each other to be positive. Abraham says a positive, higher energy person will always dominate over lower energies. Just let yourself float up. I'll remind you, and you can remind me.

Teresa, come back any time you need a swift quick... or a gentle nudge :)

If I ever get really sick Constant, which I probably never will, my plan is to watch comedies for hours at a time, and pet puppies.

Karen, thanks for coming by and sharing. I think one of the ways we can help our kids is to not teach them our beliefs in limitations too. Our ideas of too hard, too far, too expensive. Instead we can teach them to be whoever, do whatever, get whatever they desire out of life, because we know it'll be easy for them.

Thanks for a great hub and thanks to Constant Walker for leading me here through Hubber2Hubber. I've always thought of myself as lucky because I've had some amazing opportunities in life, but I also believe I've had some amazing opportunities in life because I've always though of myself as lucky! Apart from anything else, this really informs the way I raise my kids and the messages I send them. Don't just tell your kids how great they are (though this is good for their self-esteem), tell them how lucky they are, and point out examples. You could be setting them up for a lifetime of good fortune just by giving them the right attitude!

I sure have. Negative/pessimistic people resent and are annoyed but someone who's positive and optomistic. But I look at that as 'not my problem.' All I can do is hope my attitude rubs off.

Pam, I firmly believe one's attitude can effect health and even general life circumstances - not to mention make one more enjoyable to be around. It's a proven medical fact that positive, optomistic patients heal faster and better.

Yes! I do believe that thoughts whether positive or negative manifest in some way. Negative thinking can make us ill, so why can't positive thinking make us feel better? I actually need to do more of this. It's sometimes so easy to get swallowed up by someone else's negativity. So thanks for the reminder about not allowing yourself to let it in. :) Very nice Patricia.

I had one of those recurring gift horses today. Third time is the charm. I've also noticed some "friends" don't like it when you refuse to join in the negativity game. Have you experienced that?

I really like this, and especially the attitude of it. I HAVE to believe in more than one opportunity knocking because I've gotten more unbelieveable breaks than I ever thought I deserved, so I never took them for granted (something similar is evolving right now, in fact). A bassist friend used to freak me out because he NEVER said anything negative - about himself, about others, or just in general. It blew me away! Then it starting to rub off on me. Once I got out of the 'habit' of negativity, even in "jest," I really started to notice how prevalent it is in so many others. You know?

SEM Pro thank you for the compliment and thoughtful comment. I haven't read Bernie Seagull, I'll have to look him up. I'm glad you were able to beat your disease. Wish more people would understand the power of our thoughts.

Well done Patricia. Louise Hay and Bernie Seagull helped me overcome a life-threatening disease over 21 years ago. Affirmations can indeed change one's life.

Interesting example with the shampoo too. One day an advertising exec was given the responsibility of increasing sales for a shampoo manufacturer. He almost doubled them through-out the entire industry with one word - "repeat". Repeating our affirmations often is a definite key.
