General Preparation for the Day

When you have a psychic reading, it may seem effortless to the psychic, and that no preparation is needed. This is simply not true. I sat down with two psychics, Barbara Ljord and Ross Gigliotti, and asked them how they prepare for and practice their craft

When Mr. Gigliotti awakes, he makes sure that he has his private time. He has tea, meditates, does not answer the phone, and tries not to involve himself too much with electronics. He also tries to get a little walk in. He attempts to get in and stay in the moment. Mr. Gigliotti finds private time is necessary for him to practice his craft properly because “if I don’t do that, it seems to distract.” He makes sure that his mind is clear before he arrives at work, and tries “to get in touch” with his spiritual guides in the spirit world even before arriving at work.

The first thing Ms. Ljord does upon wakening is call upon her spirit guides. She asks the spirit to guide her while driving to the location of her psychic readings, which is some distance away. She states that she always asks for the “proof and truth” of all things, and that it always comes whether it takes one month or one year. Additionally, she asks for the “proof and truth” to prevail; she calls on her spirit guides to help others, and asks for healing for herself. She practices deep yogic breathing, which Ms. Ljord states “raises our energy to spin at the same frequency as those in the spirit world.”

The Location of the Psychic Readings

When Mr. Gigliotti arrives at work he “anchors” himself to the building when he walks through the door. He states that one can create a “kinetic anchor”—by doing this it becomes one’s “space”—one’s “circle of excellence.” Mr. Gigliotti takes time to read a few of his own tarot cards, and then takes about 60 seconds to breathe; he then feels ready for his work day.

Upon arrival to her work space, Ms. Ljord again does her deep yogic breathing connecting herself to her spirit guides and the spiritual realm.

In Tune with the Outside Source

When reading, Mr. Gigliotti attempts to form a sort of boundary so that he is not reading his client’s mind or body language; the goal is to tune into his client’s spirit guides. He wants to be in tune with “the outside source.”

The Reading

Despite tarot card reading being a spiritual practice, Mr. Gigliotti also believes that it is a business connection. He attempts to establish a rapport with his clients. When a client sits down, Mr. Gigliotti attempts to put him/her at ease.

When reading, he attempts to form a sort of boundary so that he is not reading his client’s mind or body language; the goal is to tune into his client’s spirit guides. He wants to be in tune with “the outside source.”

Mr. Gigliotti prefaces a reading by telling a client that everything received in the reading is just a form of information, a “heads up,” or validation. If bad news comes up, he never lets the client leave thinking that there is no solution to the problem or something to be done.

When someone comes in for a tarot card reading from Ms. Ljord, she asks them to sit and be comfortable. She asks for their birthday, and calculates the formula for the client’s numerology; this indicates what the client’s strengths and challenges are. It explains things about the client's personality, and it is normally very exciting to the client. She explains to the client that he/she can ask questions any time throughout the reading. For Ms. Ljord, people in the client’s life come up as a particular sign: for instance, a Gemini male or Virgo female, etc. If the client cannot determine who the individual is behind a particular card, she believes and tells the client that this particular individual is coming in the future, or is currently already on the perimeter of the client’s life.

Reading for Challenging Clients

If Mr. Gigliotti is reading for a client who has bad energy, it makes it very difficult to connect with the person. Psychics may seem impervious to such things, but this is not true. Mr. Gigliotti makes sure that he protects himself with a shield of sorts; he imagines white light or positive energy around him. He normally does not judge his clients harshly, however, as some people are not even aware that they are putting out a negative vibe. Mr. Gigliotti further states that some people have intrusive energy.

The space between the reader and the client makes a difference, so Mr. Gigliotti will sometimes move his chair back if he senses that either he is intruding into the client’s energy or the client is intruding into his energy. There is a “psycho-geography,” which exists. If a client makes him too uncomfortable, he will actually turn his body away.

Empaths like Mr. Gigliotti pick up a lot of energy and reads from others, but he works at shutting certain parts of himself off so he does not pick up the drama or problems in their lives. He states that empaths like him can go home sick if they don’t protect themselves and disconnect at some level. “If I’m in the mud, I can’t help you get out,” states Mr. Gigliotti.

If Ms. Ljord picks up bad vibes from a client or if the client is antagonistic in any way, she may stop the reading. She tells her client that if he/she is not happy, then he/she is welcome to get his/her money back. Ms. Ljord believes that some people have an agenda when they go to see a psychic, and do not have an understanding of the psychic philosophy; this is rare, however, and the bulk of Ms Ljord's clients are earnest seekers.

If a person is doing something in his/her life that he/she shouldn't—if it’s drugs for example—Ms. Ljord will pick up a lot of negative cards; additionally she will get a constriction in her throat. Sometimes when she gets a constriction in her throat, she is picking up the fact that someone in the client’s family is doing drugs, but not the client himself/herself.

Believe in Magic

According to Mr. Gigliotti, all psychic work is magic. He is fond of quoting Rumpelstiltskin: “People want magical solutions to their problems, and yet they don’t believe in magic.”

What You Can Do to Get the Most from You Psychic Reading

To get the most from your psychic reading, Mr. Gigliotti suggests taking notes or taping your reading. He also suggests that clients be open to the information coming through. “I don’t know how that would ever happen “—Mr. Gigliotti said he has heard this numerous times, and he asserts that the client could be shutting off important information coming through. “Generally, there are solutions to whatever comes up,” he reminds his clients.

Ms. Ljord suggests that the client do something similar to what she does to prepare for the psychic reading—deep yogic breathing. As mentioned previously, it will get your vibration to spin at the same frequency at those in the spirit world, and both you and your psychic will be more fully able to experience a clear reading. “You’ll end up where you need to be,” states Ms. Ljord. She further states, “The best way to get a good reading is to come in without any pre-conceived ideas and agendas, and to relax throughout the reading. Be prepared to listen to what comes through the spirit world. The reading comes through the reader, but it is not of the reader. “

Just as the psychic must prepare, so must we if we wish to tune into the spiritual realm. “We all have the gifts of spirit,” asserts Ms. Ljord, “we are using spirit all of the time whether we understand it or not.”

Do you believe that preparation is needed for psychics to practice their craft?

Hi Megan - Thanks for reading and commenting. Barbara has moved to her home country of Australia. As far as I know, she is not officially reading for people; however, if you have a question, I could ask her if she is willing to correspond with you.--Best--Vagabond Laborer

Hello. Thank you for gathering this info. I noticed a link to where I can find more from Ross. Do you also happen to have contact information for Barbara? Does she have a website or anything beyond FB that you're aware of? If so, would you mind sharing that with me? Thank you!

What a fascinating article! I find the whole psychic subject tantalising - I wish that I had the gift. It never occurred to me before that a psychic may need to prepare themselves for work. Thank you for educating me!

Great hub, so true... it's certainly not an easy gift to maintain (and I don't even do it professionally!). Thanks for sharing.
