Truth About Cain & Abel
Cain, a holder of the priesthood, which is a significant fact to consider, an administrator of the gospel ordinances and a prophet to the people rejected his birthright from Adam.
All the Children of Adam and Eve!
Adam and Eve lived many years in a land called Adam-Ondi-Ahman after they were expelled from the Garden of Eden.
In those years they produced many children. Reason dictates that those two had more than two children, Cain and Abel, as most Christians believe.
It is more than reasonable that other children existed or they did not come from Adam and Eve. Since this article supports the belief that all humanity descends from Adam and Eve, there is no credence given to the possibility of another group of humans outside of them to produce the spouses of Cain And able.
Cain and Abel participated in the first recorded murder! That makes them mention worthy.
The first born child of Adam and Eve would also be newsworthy! Why that first birth is not mentioned in modern scripture is a mystery. It may have been included on other records that no longer exist or that are no longer available.
Arthur A Bailey
Modern revelation teaches that Adam and Eve did not have only two children up to the point of the murder of Abel, the birthright son. After the expulsion from Eden, it was the plan for
Adam and Eve to have children, which they did. The sequence of events in Moses 5 indicates that sons and daughters were born to them even before Cain and Abel were born. Their children “began to divide two and two in the land, and to till the land, and to tend flocks and they also begat sons and daughters” (Moses 5:3). We know the names of only three sons: Cain, Abel, and Seth. (What Mondern Revelation Teaches about Adam by Arthur A Bailey.
Artist Depiction of Family of Adam and Eve
In the Pearl of Great Price, which is a compilation of records and declarations by prophets--one being a revelation about the writing of Moses, it is recorded:
And Adam knew his wife, and she bare unto him sons and daughters, and they began to multiply and to replenish the earth. And from that time forth, the sons and daughters of Adam began to divide two and two in the land, and to till the land, and to tend flocks, and they also begat sons and daughters. Moses 5:2-3
It is important to note that Adam and Eve produced many children after they left the garden who in turn paired off and divided into the land and produced children. This information is based on the revelations given to Joseph Smith Jr. and other prophets in the latter-days.
The question as to whether Adam and Eve had other children before Cain and Abel is settled with the information in the Pearl of Great Price; however, the information must still be accepted against the tradition of current sects of all Abrahamic based faiths.
There are traditions that suggest that Cain mated with a baboon and produced the African races! These type of belief traditions are refuted by the simple truth that Adam and Eve had many children before Cain and Abel and those children married and produced other children and began to spread into the land and populate it BEFORE Cain was introduced to the world.
Jesus Revealed To Adam
Before discussing Cain and Abel in detail, a review of the first couple is in order.
Adam and Eve can be considered the first Christians since Moses reveals that they knew of Him. Adam was commanded by God to offer sacrifice of the firstling or best of his flocks.
Adam, willing to be obedient to God without question, did so until he was visited by an angel inquiring of him the reason that he offered sacrifices of the firstlings of his flocks.
Adam did not know the reason for doing it save that God commanded him to do so.
It would appear that the angel gave Adam the opportunity to be humble and admit that he knew nothing about the reason for the sacrifice. The angel explained that
"This thing is a similitude of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten of the Father, which is full of grace and truth. Wherefore, thou shalt do all that thou doest in the name of the Son, and thou shalt repent and call upon God in the name of the Son forevermore, Moses 5:7-9.
Adam had failed to keep God's commandment not to partake of the fruit by choice, but he did not fail in offering up the firstling of his flock.
In reward for his obedience, God sent an angel to reveal the reason for this commandment to offer up the best sheep or lamb--as similitude, or representation of the Son of God, even Jesus Christ.
The offering would be a witness that a savior would come and go like a lamb to the slaughter for the transgression of Adam and Eve and the sins of the world.
Point to Consider
Teachings that through Christ is salvation has been around since the beginning according to modem scripture, but Messiah or God was used instead of Christ and Yesuah may have been used instead of Jesus. Those who fail to see the deeper truth that Christianity is eternal and not new miss the goal indeed. Go to the link below for perspective.
- Adam and Eve's Partnership With Jesus Christ
As a partner in this great plan of salvation, that God the Father authored and Jesus executed along with Adam & Eve, mankind would be tried and tested with the opportunity to live again in the presence of God because Jesus Christ overcame death..
Do you believe that Adam and Eve had other Children before Cain and Abel?
Significantly, Adam was converted to the gospel as was Eve!
In Moroni 10;3-5 there is a promise that the Holy Ghost will reveal truth to the willing believer as was Adam.
When Adam heard the words of the Angel, some time "in that day the Holy Ghost fell upon Adam, which beareth record of the Father and the Son, saying: I am the Only Begotten of the Father from the beginning, henceforth and forever, that as thou hast fallen thou mayest be redeemed, and all mankind, even as many as will" Moses 5:9.
Adam was told that he could be redeemed from the fall from Eden! This prompted Adam to bless "God and [he was] filled [with the Spirit of God], and began to prophesy concerning all the families of the earth," Moses 5:10
Adam testified that he would see God in the flesh, or in his body again as he did see Him in the Garden of Eden.
"Eve, his wife, heard all these things and was glad, saying: Were it not for our transgression we never should have had seed, and never should have known good and evil, and the joy of our redemption, and the eternal life which God giveth unto all the obedient," Moses 5:11.
The First Falling Away
Adam and even taught their children the gospel, but apparently the serpent in the garden, Satan, was not through with Adam and Eve. Since he could not tempt them away from God to worship him, he did so with the other humans.
God revealed himself anew to Adam and Eve as they called upon Him and offered sacrifice to Him in the Land of Eden in Adam-ondi-Ahman. Moses 5:12-13 records that
Adam and Eve blessed the name of God, and they made all things known unto their sons and their daughters. And Satan came among them, saying: I am also a son of God; and he commanded them, saying: Believe it not; and they believed it not, and they loved Satan more than God. And men began from that time forth to be carnal, sensual, and devilish.
The scriptures do not indicate the form Satan took when he went among the sons and daughters of Adam and Eve, but it is suggested that those children recognized something of mystic power and believed the report.
As with most of Satan's teachings, he mingles the truth with lies to gain acolytes. It is true that Satan is a son of God--all are sons or daughters of God! He then told the children of Adam and Eve not to believe what their father and mother taught--and they listened!
This constitutes the first apostasy recorded. Generations of the children of the first humans disregarded God and honored Satan because of the ease of his teachings.
Cain the Birthright Child
Adam and Eve grieved because of the wickedness of most of their posterity. Adam, a righteous holder of the priesthood of God did not have any person he could share the responsibility of the priestly function of sacrifice.
Modern day revelation reveals that Adam and Eve were the first Saints of God or Christians. They believed in Jesus Christ's coming and offered sacrifices in similitude of His future sacrifice as a function of pre-Atonement Christianity.
The law of Moses with its many prescriptions would not come until hundreds of years later and because the people needed a school master to teach the people away from 400 years of slavery in Egypt.
Moses 5:14-15 reveals:
And the Lord God called upon men by the Holy Ghost everywhere and commanded them that they should repent; and as many as believed in the Son, and repented of their sins, should be saved; and as many as believed not and repented not, should be damned; and the words went forth out of the mouth of God in a firm decree; wherefore they must be fulfilled.
God made sure that the gospel of salvation was made known to the children of Adam and Eve. He offered them the hope from the fall of their mortal father but they believed it not!
Why did they not believe Adam and believed Satan more? Did some not believe Adam and Eve were the first people as do now? Did some wonder off searching for others not of Adam and Eve becoming lost to the original family and living like cavemen because of it?
What is revealed is that Adam's children did not hearken and it grieved Adam and Eve. When Eve knew she was with child again, she and Adam rejoiced because they had new hope. Moses 5:16 reads that "Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bare Cain, and said: I have gotten a man from the Lord; wherefore he may not reject his words," This was an answered prayer to the couple when considering the unbelief of their children thus far.
Who is the Lord that I should know him?
Adam and Eve invested in Cain as the new savior for the seed. "Adam blessed God and was filled, and began to prophesy concerning all the families of the earth, saying: Blessed be the name of God, for because of my transgression my eyes are opened, and in this life I shall have joy, and again in the flesh I shall see God," Moses 5:10.
Adam raised Cain carefully and gave him the birthright to the priesthood and called him into the ministry--entrusting him with all the sacred responsibility. After such a long drought with his other children accepting the gospel teachings,
Adam was happy to share these things with his new son. Cain went among his brothers and sisters and was converted to the dark side rather than being a light to them, which caused "Adam and his wife [to mourn] before the Lord, because of Cain and his brethren," Moses 5:27.
Cain, a holder of the priesthood, which is a significant fact to consider, an administrator of the gospel ordinances and a prophet to the people rejected his birthright from Adam.
Cain had the gall to say, "Who is the Lord that I should know him," Moses 5:16? Crushed that the birthright son followed the path of all his other sons before him, Adam took comfort in his wife and they conceived and produce Abel, the next birthright son.
The Pride of Cain
Moses describes the path that Cain took that pulled him away from the Gospel and his birthright. He hearkened to his elder brothers instead of listening to the Lord. As a holder of the priesthood and having been trained in the functions of that priesthood by Adam, Cain knew the proper offerings to make as prescribed in the Law of the Lord.
Abel, also a holder of the priesthood and the new birthright child performed offerings unto the Lord. Because Abel did so as he was instructed by his father Adam, his offering was accepted by the Lord. Abel was a tender of sheep and therefore offered up of the firstling of his flock as is prescribed.
Satan knew that Cain had no desire to offer up unto the Lord, but he instructed Cain to offer to the Lord. Instead of going to abel and asking for an animal as he knew he should have to offer a proper offering unto the lord, Cain took of his fields and offered to the Lord.
Cain may have reasoned that since God accepted Abel's offering He should accept his offering as well. When his offering was rejected he was wroth or angry and hurt. Instead of seeing the rejection of the offering because it was performed incorrectly using the wrong items, Cain saw it as a rejection of him. "Now Satan knew this, and it pleased him. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell" (Moses 5:21).
God chastised Cain for his refusal to perform ordinances correctly and tried to explain to him when He saw that Cain was wroth the terrible situation Cain was facing if he did not hearken; Said He,
Why art thou wroth? Why is thy countenance fallen?If thou doest well, thou shalt be accepted. And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door, and Satan desireth to have thee; and except thou shalt hearken unto my commandments, I will deliver thee up, and it shall be unto thee according to his desire. And thou shalt rule over him;
For from this time forth thou shalt be the father of his lies; thou shalt be called Perdition; for thou wast also before the world. And it shall be said in time to come—That these abominations were had from Cain; for he rejected the greater counsel which was had from God; and this is a cursing which I will put upon thee, except thou repent. Moses 5:22-25
God warned Cain that he was at the door of destruction because of his actions. God did not walk away from Cain, but Cain walked away from God. After speaking to Him, "Cain rejected the greater counsel and received the curse that God said would come upon him. "And Cain was wroth, and listened not any more to the voice of the Lord, neither to Abel, his brother, who walked in holiness before the Lord" Moses 5:6.
Cain rejected God and anyone who would try to counsel him. Satan, "Yea, that same being who did plot with Cain... and his followers from that time forth" (Helamen 6:27), had achieved his design with Cain by turning the birthright son completely away from God and over to him. Pride had swelled in Cain's heart and he would not be corrected.
Moses records that Cain now had ammunition to plot against his brother Abel. Satan could not gain the same hold onto Abel he did for Cain, so he had to find another way to get rid of the birthright child.
Satan Still Wants to be God
If he could not win the battle in heaven, Satan wanted the next best thing. He wanted to rule the world of mortals. In Adam and Eve into the Dreary World, there is a portion describing why Satan wanted the birthright sons so badly. It reads:
Finally, Satan had the adulation that he sought from the beginning. His desire to hurry the process of Adam and Eve into producing children so that he could lead them away was complete--just the beginning however.
Satan intended to use deception and cunning to win the souls of all the children of Adam and Eve away from God employing his advantage of using the veil over the minds of these people of their pre-mortal life.
Satan wants to be worshiped as a god. Having a birthright son as heir to Prince Adam frightened Satan. The possibility that he could lose one of his followers to the persuasion of a minister of Adam's commission, the archangel Michael and the man who escorted him out of heaven and cast him to the earth, burns him with indignation and avidity.
If he could not tempt away the birthright son as he did with Cain, he would employ other means to thwart God's plans to redeem His people. Abel would cease to be a leader one way or the other so that Satan could enjoy his "godship" and adulation while reveling in God-directed castigation at the lack of God's followers.
Satan Introduced to Humanity These Things
Acts of Violence
All kinds of Oaths!!
Special Note: The Curse of Cain
God specifically told Cain that as a curse upon him,
I will deliver thee up, and it shall be unto thee according to [Satan's] desire. And thou shalt rule over him; For from this time forth thou shalt be the father of his lies; thou shalt be called Perdition. And it shall be said in time to come—That these abominations were had from Cain; for he rejected the greater counsel which was had from God; and this is a cursing which I will put upon thee, except thou repent Moses 5:23-25.
Before Cain received a curse, God personally warned him that he would be cursed if he did not change. God knew that the downward spiral in Cains behavior would lead him to be tempted to do something evil, tragic even.
God let him know ahead of time that there was a curse in his future if he did not change his behavior. He even told Cain that Satan desired that Cain should have a curse given.
The curse was to be perdition, the father of Satan's lies, and to have evil attributed to his name ever after. Other opinions of the curse are moot because God Himself explains it in scripture.

The Death of Abel
Abel loved his brother Cain and associated with him to some degree it appears from the scriptures. Either that, or Cain deceived Abel to follow him into a field. He probably told Abel he wanted to pray with him or the like. There was no reason Abel had to distrust Cain as far as he knew, but Cain was now a servant of darkness and a ruler over Satan's lies.
It was Satan's intention to pull Cain so far down that he could get him to do all that he wanted him to do. Apparently Cain was too proud to allow Satan actual access to his body, so Satan settled for the next best things, complete domination of Cain's will, which was almost as good as having possession of his body!
After Satan saw that Cain had completely turned away from God and towards him he appealed to Cains jealousy of Able saying,
"Swear unto me by thy throat, and if thou tell it thou shalt die; and swear thy brethren by their heads, and by the living God, that they tell it not; for if they tell it, they shall surely die; and this that thy father may not know it; and this day I will deliver thy brother Abel into thine hands. Moses 5:29
Such oaths had never been entered into among the children of humanity. Satan knew that the bodies of all mankind most shortly perish and he wanted to own not only the works of his servants but also control over when they died! Megalomaniac does not describe the building withing this dark spirit. His desire to be God helped him bring about death first so that he could claim credit for the decreed resolution of human existence given in the Garden of Eden.
Jealous Cain could not see past his own lust, which with the help of Satan became a blood lust. He called himself according to Moses Master Mahan. The great secret was that he could murder and get gain without getting found out--or so he thought.
Cain spoke to Abel in a field casually as if all was well between them when he suddenly rose up and slew Abel. Abel was not sure what to do being that violence was not known among humanity until Cain acted on his urges. Cain dealt the crushing blow of death and let out a hellish cry of victory, "I am free; surely the flocks of my brother falleth into my hands" Moses 5:33.
Thus another son of the birthright was lost and Satan laughed.
Am I My Brother's Keeper
God confronts Cain about Abel's whereabouts. Cain utters the infamous, "Am I my brother's Keeper?"
Immediately the Lord reminds Cain of the curse that would come upon him, "from this time forth thou shalt be the father of his lies; thou shalt be called Perdition; for thou wast also before the world. And it shall be said in time to come—That these abominations were had from Cain; for he rejected the greater counsel which was had from God."
And the pronouncement came,
...thou shalt be cursed from the earth which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand. When thou tillest the ground it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength. A fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
Cain pled with the Lord saying his punishment was too great. He was a farmer and now the ground was cursed towards him! There was no remorse about the death of Abel. There was only agony over his loss.
In compassion towards Cain, God gave him protection, for Cain knew any who saw him would kill him. The Lord put a mark on Cain that any person who found him knew not to kill him.
Many people considered Blacks of African ancestry the seed of Cain. Do you believe Blacks of African ancestry are the seed of Cain?
Seed of Cain Still alive today!
Moses informs that Cain took a wife from among his brothers daughters.
This is significant revelation to the world because of racist teachings that have been imagined by people.
Since Cain was not the first child that Adam and Eve conceived by far according to Moses, then there is no need to construct myths about the origin of his wife.
Cain and his wife embraced the darkness after Cain slew Abel. All people who served themselves and worship the devil by so doing were wicked, but Cain and his family were even more wicked because they enforced their wickedness with murder. All people who murder for personal gain or any reason are the seed of Cain.
