The Truth Behind Area 51: Do Aliens Exist?
Do Aliens Exist?
Up to this day, Area 51 is still clouded with mystery. For many decades now, this highly classified military installation has become the center of a lot of controversies. Questions like, “Are there really aliens in Area 51?” or “Is UFO technology secretly hidden and studied there?” have puzzled both conspiracy theorists and common people alike. Even those who do not believe in the existence of extraterrestrial life forms are drawn to the Area 51 mystery. This is not surprising considering the fact that the subject of aliens and UFOs is intriguing and haunting.
Area 51 is located in the secluded dessert of Nevada. Just less than 90 miles from the lively, Sin City of Las Vegas, this military installation is considered as one—if not the most—guarded, classified military base known to mankind. Ever since the general public learned of this facility, intrigues and controversies have clouded it. What “important” extraterrestrial or “human” activities and experiments have been conducted there to the point that the US government have, for a couple of times, rejected and confirmed it existed before the 90s? And how significant is this facility that even the military’s own aircraft are not allowed to fly over its airspace? These are just some of the many questions that give flavor and color to the Area 51 mystery.
There are many extraterrestrial theories that are associated with Area 51. Some people have claimed that this military base has conducted several experiments on the dead bodies of aliens and tried to reverse engineer their advance technology. These activities are allegedly being done under the military base itself. And that the buildings that are found above are just facades of a highly-complex facility located underground. Some Area 51 fanatics have even purported the idea that the aliens themselves are in command of the whole facility and are conducting experiments to create half-human and half-alien beings. Others have also proposed the theory that the aliens are controlling the government and that they are conducting experiments on human beings. Theories such as this may explain the accounts of various people all over the world who claim that they have been abducted by aliens and that they themselves have been inside UFOs.
These Area 51 theories came into existence after a certain UFO crashed in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. The Army itself—General William Blanchard to be specific—released a written statement, which stated that they had found the debris of a mysterious aircraft. Later on, the military withdrew its previous statements and said that the alleged unidentified flying object was not some type of an extraterrestrial aircraft but a weather balloon. However, General Blanchard’s first statement was already published in different newspapers before he could retract it. Some declassified papers later on revealed that the weather balloon was part of a classified program called the Project Mogul, which was a surveillance program. However, conspiracy theorists do not buy this explanation and still continue to believe and promote the theory that the army did salvage a UFO at the Roswell crash site.

Robert Lazar and Area 51
One famous and highly sensationalized theory among the several extraterrestrial theories that many people have suggested to shed light over the Area 51 mystery is the account of a man named Robert “Bob” Lazar. This “scientist-engineer” claims that he had worked for Area 51 and was involved in the reverse engineering department of the said facility. Together with his team, Lazar’s main objective was to discover how alien technology worked and how to apply them in upgrading the technology and vehicles of the US military. He appeared on television in 1987 and exposed the facility’s greatest secret. According to Lazar, the military base has nine UFOs in its possession. He further claimed that these alien spacecrafts were hidden in a certain area of the military base called S-4.
Bob Lazar claims that he attended MIT and CalTech and has two Master’s Degrees from the said universities. However, skeptics investigating his claims found no records that he got his two Master’s or that he even studied from the two mentioned educational institutions. To his defense, Lazar attacked the government and said that they were trying to damage his reputation by removing and destroying all of his educational records. His skeptics quickly denounced this accusation by stating that erasing a citizen’s existence or records is an enormous, seemingly impossible task. Though there are some flaws in Lazar’s claims, he still managed to influence a quite number of people who became his believers.
A New Twist to the Mystery
Just recently, a new theory surfaced. This time, it does not come from conspiracy theorists or from someone who has worked for Area 51, but from a journalist. In her book titled, Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base, Annie Jacobsen reveals a new answer behind the mystery that is Area 51 and debunks the previous theories that associate the said military base with extraterrestrial life forms or advance alien technology. She claims that the UFO, which crashed in Roswell in 1947, was not flown by aliens. According to her anonymous sources, they were piloted by Russian children. Furthermore, she also says that the bodies of these children were modified by the Nazi to make them look like aliens. She further claims that this UFO incident was ordered by Josef Stalin. The main objective of this incident was to cause mass hysteria among the Americans. Stalin knew that he cannot contend with the nuclear weapons of America. As such, what he wanted was to cause fear and panic patterned after the radio drama, War of the Worlds, broadcasted in 1938.
If you find Annie's claims intriguing, make sure you read her controversial book.
If this is the real answer to the Roswell UFO incident, then why did the US government kept it secret to the public? The answer to this question can be found in Jacobsen’s book. According to her anonymous source, the US government decided not to disclose it to the public because it has facilities that were also doing highly classified experiments on human beings. These experiments resulted into the subjects’ deaths. What’s more horrifying is that these cruel activities lasted even until the 80s.
This new theory somehow places the US government in a bad light and greatly deviates from the traditional extraterrestrial theories. However, Jacobsen has interviews and eyewitness accounts to back up her claims.

The Truth According to the Government
For many years now, the government has been strong in its statement that no aliens or extraterrestrial aircraft have been or are being studied in Area 51. The purpose of this highly classified facility can be summarized in one statement according to them: Area 51 exists as a facility where new methods and technologies that will enhance the American military forces and further protect the US and its citizens can be tested. Aside from this, the full details of the facility’s activities and operations are kept secret from the prying eyes of the public. True enough, the military base has become the testing ground for developing highly-technological aircraft such as the F-117A Stealth Fighter.
Though the government has already revealed the “truth” behind the Area 51 mystery, many conspiracy theorists and regular people alike still doubt this and choose to believe that UFO and aliens are being held or studied there. With so many questions still left unanswered, Area 51 will remain a mystery until the government fully discloses the “real” truth behind it to the public.
