Even non-Christians know

When it comes to facts abut the universe, even non-Christians can learn and discover the truth about the earth and universe. God has set up the system so that both the non-Christian and the Christian can see what God did at creation

Neither side has a monopoly on the truth of these aspects of life. The non-believer can find out about photosynthesis, evaporation, orbits and other natural processes that are a part of life.

God has made those discoveries plain and easy to see.

The Words of Augustine

However, certain words of Augustine are used by the non-Christian to attack the very words of the Bible. They are often quoted by an evolutionist or Big Bang theorist in hopes of persuading the Christian that the words of Genesis 1 & 2 are not real, factual or true. These words are:

Usually, even a non-Christian knows something about the earth, the heavens, and the other elements of this world, about the motion and orbit of the stars and even their size and relative positions, about the predictable eclipses of the sun and moon, the cycles of the years and the seasons, about the kinds of animals, shrubs, stones, and so forth, and this knowledge he holds to as being certain from reason and experience. Now, it is a disgraceful and dangerous thing for an infidel to hear a Christian, presumably giving the meaning of Holy Scripture, talking nonsense on these topics; and we should take all means to prevent such an embarrassing situation, in which people show up vast ignorance in a Christian and laugh it to scorn

{De Genesi ad litteram libri duodecim, “The Literal Meaning of Genesis,” Book 1 chapter 19.}

Part of these words are true when it comes to Christians deriding the non-believer for their attempts at discrediting the Bible. The non-believer does know orbits, eclipses and so on. The Christian should be careful in dismissing the thoughts on those topics.

The unbeliever does know what they are talking about when it comes to these subjects, for the most part.

That is Where the Knowledge Ends

Augustine is right in this quote but his words do not apply to the issue of origins. Knowledge of orbits, eclipses and other universe events, and standard operation does not translate into knowledge about our origins.

The late Bishop of Hippo was not telling the Christian world that God was wrong when he told Moses how the earth and universe, and all their contents were created. He was not saying that secular scientists knows more about our origins than the Christian.

He is also not saying that God merely told fable to Moses because ancient minds could not understand the real way the universe and earth came to be. All Augustine is saying that where certain process, laws, and other aspects of the universe are easily discovered by all.

God sent the same information to all of his creation.

God did not Disguise His Creative Act

The words of Augustine seem to embolden the secular scientist and evolutionist. Their interpretation of those words indicate that Augustine is saying that the secular world can determine our origins even if it disagrees wit the Biblical record.

They use those words to try and keep the Christian silent about how God really created the world. In their minds science trumps faith and their work brings out the truth concerning the origin of life, the planets and more.

But they would be and are wrong. Augustine i snot saying that God’s word is wrong concerning our origins. Nor is he saying that secular science knows more about our origins than God does. In fact, he i snot touching on creation when he spoke those words.

If he was, then he would be in error as well. Our origins is far beyond the scope of science and over scientific heads. How life and the universe came to be is not a mystery as so many evolutionists, scientists and astronomers, etc., have claimed.

We know exactly how everything came to be.

Creation Was Not a Natural Event

Science is designed to look for natural answers. But when you limited a field of research to just one process, then you are excluding all the other possibilities that could be responsible for the origin of life, etc.

That restriction doe snot provide the evidence needed to show that other processes could not have completed the act of origins. It does show that many scientists and science itself is closed and narrow minded refusing to see the truth

It is impossible for such a restricted field of research to learn how our origins was. The message these non-inclusive scientists are sending is that it was done their way and if no one likes it, they will take their ball and go home.

Or they will become bullies and make everyone accept their ideas because the restricted scientists refuse to search for the truth

Creation was not a natural act. Not only has secular science failed to prove it was, every ancient creation tale and the Bible itself speak that creation was a supernatural act alone. There are no ancient manuscripts detailing an evolutionary rise to life.

There is not one shred of ancient evidence supporting the evolutionary or natural models. Everything points to a supernatural beginning t our existence.

Abuse of Augustine’s Words is Not Right

It is not right for the secularist to misuse and misapply Augustine’s words. He is not the final authority on our origins. At no time did Augustine receive special revelation telling him that Moses was in error when he took down God’s words.

The Bible ends the mystery behind our existence. Creation was a one-time supernatural act that will not be repeated ever again on this earth. God spoke and it was. A field of research designed to look for natural answers will miss out on the truth concerning our origins.

No matter how many times they quote Augustine’s words, the truth about our origins is found in Genesis 1.
