Rome, Italy

Rome, Italy was the place that first constructed St. Peter's Basilica in 313 A.D. Jesus' Disciples St. Peter and St. Paul preached and then were martyred in Rome as well as The Bishop of Rome. The Pope resides in Rome and Rome is the headquarters of the Catholic Church. The Catholic religion is considered the largest in the Christian denomination. Thousands make the pilgrimage each year to visit Rome. Some come for healing, prayer, to have mass with the Pope and to site see. Each and every year they come, from all over the globe to have Mass with the Pope at the Vatican. This is a huge Catholic tradition. The religious history is prominent everywhere you look. You can not miss it as it is practically, everywhere. I would love to visit this country someday. All religions are respected in this religious country but, it is mostly Christians specifically Catholics. The Catholic religion or Christianity promotes peace in these troubled times. The Pope still gives that glimmer of hope to many.

I have never been to Rome, Italy but, it is one of the places on my bucket list and if offered a chance I would be on my way.

*Please be sure and leave your thoughts about this hub in the comments box located at the bottom of this page. If you have ever been to any of the countries listed in this article I would love to hear from you.

Jerusalem, Israel

Jerusalem is a Holy City in the religions of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. In Christianity, Jesus was crucified in this city. Jerusalem is home to many religious sites including Dome of the Rock, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, The Temple Mount and the Western Wall. The Jews have found Jerusalem to be a Holy City ever since King David in the Old Testament proclaimed it to be his capital. Life back then versus now is very different but, there is something to be said for going back to your homeland. Just to know that your ancestors started here. Hundreds of thousands pilgrimage here every year in order to pray, meditate, site see or to vacation. For some and most who come so far and make this journey is like coming home, in a sense that, this is where our earliest days are recorded. A trip to visit this land It is also a trip of a lifetime. Some people save long and hard to make this trip. There are a lot of church groups that make this trip. This is the main part of the Middle East that I would love to visit.

Their are many regions of Jerusalem that have yet to be explored by Archeologists but many areas have uncovered historic religious finds. Certain spots is forbidden to dig in by the government in Israel.

Holy Lands of India

Karnataka, India is home to be many significant religious areas. India is the second most populated country in the entire world. Many religious artifacts are still unearthed in India according to archaeologists.

Iraq

Iraq is thought to be the location of the Garden of Eden. This was The Garden when Eve took and ate of the forbidden fruit. It is first mentioned in the book of Genesis in The Holy Bible.

Iraq, which is in the Middle East, is 95% Muslim. This country is known as The Cradle of Civilization because, the first known people were discovered here. Even though it is a war torn country, it is still beautiful. There are always archeologists, their assistants, are always there looking for religious relics. Many underground buildings from the past have been discovered here. It would be wonderful to visit there and soak up the history of this beautiful place. Most of the ruins are too fragile for tourism.

Germany

Germany was an established Catholic country in the 15th century but, Martin Luther brought in protestants and the thirty years war began in Germany. Germany has complete religious freedom in their country. Germany has all religions in their country, that includes: temples, church's, synagogues and mosque are located all over the country side. This country has faced many obstacles to their faith but, they have always overcome all problems and persevered. Some of the biggest and prettiest churches in the world can be found in the country of Germany.

Africa

The majority of Africans are Christians or Muslims. The Bahai Faith is the third largest religion and it appears to be growing in size. Roman Catholic is the biggest so far and it's growing steadily. Although this country is poor in cash it is rich in spirit. It has much poverty but the people of this country have a strong faith and remain strong even in the face of danger.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan is 99% Islamic but, it hasn't always been this way. Jews, Greeks and even Buddhists have all traveled the desert lands. In the 9th century, the Quran was introduced in the northern region of Afghanistan. This book and the religion simply took hold and took over and in a very short amount of time. Although this country is war torn, it too still is beautiful in many ways and it has a lot of significance.
