The Quake of Faith Being Shaken
Faith in God is the most essential aspect needed for everyday living. Our faith should be rooted in the Creator of the universe first and foremost; and everyday thereafter.
Faith can never be in things, but is the substance and evidence of the things we hope to receive. Faith is always in God and not in the things we are hoping will happen or the things we hope to receive.
A moment of reckoning is when we ask ourselves, is my faith in God or the things He gives and does? We understand and know the aspect of God that has given everything and has provided us with everything in the earth.
Prayer is a life of asking God for things. Have you ever thought about prayer? It is always asking God for something or the other, it is times of petitioning. In my own time of prayer there emerged a stopping point, not from praying, but for the purpose of examining myself. I found that 99.9 percent of prayer was asking for something for myself and for others. I said, to my soul, you know God is not a Jenie in a bottle, or a lucky charm to conjure up to endorse my wants and wishes. There also came resolve within my spirit to always just pray thy will be done. It redirects all requests to comply with the will of God being more important and needful than anything I could possibly ask for.
The premise of faith is to believe God alone. He that comes to God must believe that He is a rewarder of them who diligently seek Him. Faith was designed to always look to God for the answer to everything.
Recently, I have been going through seasons of storms, not just one but many. Each one was more intense than the former, and challenged and quaked my faith and very being. The trust in God that I perceived and believed I held was being shaken to its very core. Fear of the unknown tends to want a duel with faith. It is what we do in the interim that counts. God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and love and sound mind. Sound mind is what is necessary going through trials, we need the peace that passes all understanding.
When needs arise involving the lack of finances, and the focus of expenditures which are more than income surface, it is devastating, and that is an understatement. These same issues have torn marriages apart, finances being the cause. It is no different being in a relationship with and believing in God. Nevertheless, God has to mean more to us than finances ever can. Bottom line of each of these storms in each season was the lack of income.
Unemployment brings with it downpours of financial uneasiness, and climatic changes. This test has now become my testimony that God is my all and all. I realize that I am not sufficient in and of myself, and that God is my sufficiency. Whether I have little or much doesn't change the fact of who He is. The all sufficient God, He never changed during these times, because He is immutable, and changeless. He is the same yesterday, today and forevermore. I was the one who changed, my countenance changed. Moreover, just as King David, my spirit had to ask my soul, why are you cast down, oh my soul and why are you disquieted in me, hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, He is the help of my countenance. I had to acknowledge that God is the help of my countenance. It is He who puts a smile on my face in the midst of adversity, and it is His joy that is my strength. Strength is oftentimes a famine and drought when you are going through a storm.
I had a dream last year of being on a plane, when my cell rang, and it was my sister. We talked as we generally do and I said to her I will call you back, I am on a plane, before hanging up she asked me where are you going, I told her I don't know, I will let you know when I get there. Here I was on a plane and I didn't even know my destination. That is exactly how faith works, we walk by faith and not by sight. Faith knew even in this dream that I was going somewhere, I just couldn't see where.
Money has a way of magnifying itself to a point of importance that we ought not ever give it permission to do. It isn't really until you must reason through the situation and remind yourself who created the world and everything in it, and that nothing created is or should ever be more important than who created it. This is the place of safety and protection knowing that He will provide. God doesn't need money in order to provide, we unfortunately do, actually everything He has provided is already on earth. Money is merely a way to access it through the world system, not His providence.
Not to have an idea where you will get the money for rent, food and other obligations are the same type of winds that are assigned to destroy hope and faith, yet we are talking about faith. Remembering what Jesus did is the only consolation and remedy, speaking over your soul and circumstances, peace be still. Reaching for His faith because your own is weak. It is so much easier when everything is going swell to agree and decree the Word of God, but when you are really going through you tend to become the forgetful hearer, that faith comes by.
These tumultuous winds of lack are devastating to say the least. Money is a necessity and has a methodical way of challenging faith to a duel, just as it challenged those marriages in which money was more important than they were to each other. A question arose in this defining moment. Who is greater to me? God or money? This question will require tearing the house apart, so that the judgment needed can qualify faith. The question resonates o ye of little faith, because faith is small when it is not in God alone.
Faith is a key we use to unlock our lives which are hidden with and in God through Christ Jesus. Everything we need is in God and not in the world system. There is no other way to access real or true life without the key of faith.
There are other keys used to access the world system, which only prove to be belief in what is theoretical and not a tangible reality for all, and are only available if you are content with understanding and living life as theory, and not reality.
Life as theory is only a bunch of concepts you believe about it, but experientially it is off limits. It is more about a set of ideologies about life. It looks a lot like life, but life without respect for who created it is in vain.
Dominantly has the world system attempted to usurp authority over what God ordained for life to function under His will, and has lured the inhabitants of the earth to believe in its leadership. The Creator has a master plan which calls all who believe in real life to who created it.
King Solomon declared that he had seen all the works done under the sun and he summed it to be vanity and vexation of the spirit. Here lived a King who was extremely wealthy, yet all of his wealth alone could not satisfy him. He was having his own defining moment as well. Life and faith, faith and life go hand and hand.
There is no real life without faith in who created life and has the power to hold it together. We are not equip to hold our lives together absolutely without God, nor were we fashioned to do so. There is a faith in God that will try your very soul, and distinguishing between God and mammon is a huge part of that process.
“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon” (Matthew 6:24 KJV).
The Greek word for mammon is mamonus and it means wealth and avarice. Avarice is love of money.
Jesus said, that we cannot serve God, and mammon and that challenges faith in God. We can because it is our own free choice, but He advises in this verse that it is not profitable to choose mammon over God. He asks in another scenario, what profit is it to gain the whole world, and lose your own soul? Then He adds, what will you give in exchange for your soul. In all the ways we acquire things under the law of exchange and reciprocity, what can we receive in return for the purchase of our souls but damnation.
To gain the whole world without the Creator of the world is a scary and dangerous thought. It is even inane and silly at the same time. Who can honestly say that they would desire or are motivated to gain a world that they have not created and live it without God, when they haven’t even asked the Creator for permission to operate their system in His world. The operation that governs life is automatic when we respect and appreciate His creative rights. We are always subject to the Creator, being creatures.
Judgment begins with you and me individually
“Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain” (Hebrews 12:26b-27 KJV).
The point I would like to share from my being shaken to the core, is that I don’t want, desire nor will I accept money as my Savior. The dollar to the highest power didn’t die on the cross for me. Money can’t save a life; it can only serve in life as a temporary fix, and not the real solution for the life subjected to the wiles of sin.
I didn’t make a decision to accept money as my Savior and Lord, I am not, nor at the time did I factor money into the salvation equation, and neither do I want to minimize the need for money in the earth, and only because of sin do we and will we have need of it today and probably to the end of time. Sin produced men and women who could not and cannot see the Creator’s plan and purposes for life without a money system they could ultimately control. I had to reason with myself and contrast the difference. Who is my savior? The need for money or Jesus, money can never save me; I was not redeemed by or with silver or gold, but by the precious blood of Jesus. Money cannot be equal to salvation.
All of the findings and discoveries in this hub were made during a time of self-dialogue. I was having an ongoing defining moment to hour within myself. I didn’t talk it over with anyone; it was and is my defining moment and breakthrough. I hope and pray it can help anyone to see Jesus a little bit clearer.
I saw a vision of what was a cross but the dollar sign was hanging there, not Jesus. Of course today He is not hanging there, because He is resurrected, and has ascended and the cross of Calvary will always be etched in the heart of believers and what happened there. The questionable aspect of this vision is how far does it go? Have I examined myself to the point of knowing that the cross that I established my faith upon is indeed intact? Or is this cross with the dollar sign ruling me as well?
We can't serve two masters. In this vision, this cross had the dollar sign nailed to it, and it had replaced what Jesus died for. I attempted to capture what I saw in the cross above with the dollar sign.
It appeared to be the cross, yet all the bloodshed in this life was for the purpose to obtain and secure the dollar. It is a gruesome discovery that quakes the very foundation of my soul and makes me question whether my faith is launched in what Jesus accomplished on the cross or what can be obtained via mammon. This photo illustrates and contrasts the two quite well, the dollar sign and the cross.
The Scriptures teach us that,
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 7:9 KJV).
The word of God and the Holy Spirit helps us to know the heart, answering the question in Jeremiah 7:9 when it asks who can know? As the Word of God quickly and powerfully pierces and penetrates it divides asunder and differentiates between spirit and soul to discern the thoughts, intents and motivations of the heart.
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged , piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12 KJV).
This is another one of those defining moments when reality is, we must choose ye this day whom you will serve, will it God or man? The money system was devised by men and is still being controlled by men who are strategically placed in the world operating the system.. The idea of buying and selling was man’s way of operating the world; it is not the Creator’s way of operating a world that only He created. The Creator created every good thing in the world that man obsessively has hoarded in his greed and need for control. It is evident through war on every level, it is troubling when it reaches the spirit realm and war over money becomes equivalent or parallel to war for sick sin souls.
It is interesting how the dollar bill’s inscription is in God we trust, and that is exactly what we must do, trust God not money; yet how much truth is in that statement? It should read in money trust, because it will take faith to trust God and not money. Render unto Caesar, that which is of him, and render unto the Lord, the things which are the Lord’s. God owns the cattle on a thousand hills, yet man is selling that same cattle for gain. Does that mean man owns the cattle? Man will own cattle when he can create cattle. Man has devised a system that grants him ownership through the bartering and exchange system which only leads to avaricious, greed, and imbalances as it pertains to money.
The Creator dwells in absolute light and He originally fashioned man for this world and for everything to operate to His delight. Absolute light could never produce the manifestation and materialization of sin, because all sin is darkness and there is no darkness where light is absolute.
When God separated the light from the darkness, absolute light was no longer possible in the earth because darkness manifested and 12 hours it was alloted. Man was present after the dividing of what we know as a 24 hour day into two parts, light and darkness, day and night, and those aspects of a day are separate from each other. It is a paradox, we were formed before the foundation of the world, which means our spirits were originally created in light because the Creator created them and where He dwells there is absolute light.
The test for me came in various forms and scenarios, loss of job, diminishing finances, bills overdue, rent unpaid, income less than all expenditures, faith quaking to the very foundation, disappointments one after the other, death of loved ones, just seasons of great despair. I am writing from a place of great pain. However, this is a place of honesty where I can qualify my integrity and make a determination whether it is pure. The integrity of the upright shall guide them.
This time that I am going through is likened to a poem I wrote entitled, “The Refiner’s Fire” my very own poetic prophecies coming true. It was written over 20 years ago. Yet, nothing I was experiencing then or have experienced since writing this poem is remotely comparable to what prompted this probe to validate my faith and to share this hub with you.
This shaking is self-quaking. It feels as if I am turned upside down and everything that is not truly of faith is falling to the ground. The Bible tells us that it is “the love of money” is the root of all evil. Love of money has to be a question we must all answer. Do I love what God can do to help me get the money, or is it God I truly love?
Prayer has a lot to do with asking for things we need or for someone else's needs. There is very little about prayer, intercession, and making supplications that does not involve asking and requesting something. How much of prayer is void or doesn’t have to do with money somehow? Thanksgiving, praise and worship are the selfless and motivators of faith. We ask nothing in times of thanksgiving and praise, we thank the Creator for all things, we praise Him for who He is, and we encourage and inspire others to do so as well. Praise can be based on all that He has done in which we are always recipients and benefactors of; but thanking Him for who He is and praising Him for who He is carries a different relevance.
Thank you Creator for creating everything in this life you knew I would like. You knew I would like pineapples when you created them and you knew I would like ice cream, but ice-cream came through man, but thank You. The substance and materials used in making everything in this world were created by the Creator. The paper, ink and machinery for the press used to make money, all come from the Creator. Man did not originate the substance or materials used to create therefore he can never be the owner legally, but illegally. What proof is there that he even asked the Creator for permission to use money in this world?
All of the adverse situations I mentioned earlier such as loss of my job are not new to me. In the past I have lost my job before and was always able to find employment in due time or had access to an income which could compensate for the loss of employment. In this season of distress and grief, it wasn’t as easy as in the past to land on my feet. The need, not the want of money is a humbling place to be and only faith in God, not the money you need, will get you through the discomfort. You have to know what it is like to not have income that is beneath monthly expenditures to understand where this place is located, in the valley.
I am not referencing one season. I have been unemployed full-time for almost two years. This probably is the most taxing time I have ever experienced in my life. The dubious realities are challenges only faith can endure, and only hope can support.
Jesus said, "These things I have spoken unto you, that ye may have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world" (John 16:33 KJV). so this is what I must do. The Apostle James counsels, "to count it all joy, when you fall into divers temptations. Knowing this that the trying of your faith worketh patience" (James 1b-2 KJV). Patience is a virtue I desire.
Here is my poem:
THE REFINER’S FIRE
The refiner’s fire burns away the dross, and
All of the excess and what isn’t pure,
What are your expectations, when
The flames are at their hottest?
Can you see the quality of person you will become?
Or does your soul cry out for instant gratification and relief?
As you go through fiery trials
Look into the Father’s eyes when you study the Word,
Behold His love for you and know that the fire will not consume you,
You may experience discomfort,
But, understand that purity is the fire’s goal,
Even the flames have been commissioned to bring forth
Pure motives and desires,
When you are tried and tested in the furnace of affliction,
I encourage you to lift up your eyes, and
Look to Him who has all control,
He knows the outcome and is working all things
Together for your ultimate good,
The flames won’t get any hotter than He will allow!
At this very hour your faith is going through the refiner’s fire,
Look to Jesus!
He authored your faith and will finish it
He will perfect those things which pertain to you,
The refiner’s fire will put the finishing touch on your faith, and
Translate it into holiness and love.
The refiner’s fire burns away the dross and all that is not pure. Dross is rubbish, trash, and waste.
In Revelation 3:18, Jesus counsels the Church in Laodicea, and this counsel is applicable for us today, if we would only listen….
”I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clotheth, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that that mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent” (Revelation 3:18 KJV).
Here is an interchangeable question I pose to you. What does money really have to do with life? And what does life really have to do with money? The life the Creator has endowed us with has nothing to do with money. The counsel Jesus is giving has nothing to do with money, silver or gold and nothing we know of monetary value. Yet, He is advising that we buy of Him gold tried in the fire, so that we may be rich. Draw from the redemption He purchased for us. To buy means to purchase and obtain by a transaction or operation. This statement is paradoxical in a manner of speaking, but life is the only thing applicable. A life tried in the fire of severe oppression, and a defining moment that money cannot manipulate or control. What this verse is speaking to me is that there is a theory or concept of life that is only ideological, hypothetical and not based of truth and is unrealistic.
What I need is not the theory of life that the money system inculcates. Yes, money created a viable system, but the Creator created life void of money, and life works for all of creation, whereas money doesn’t work for the good of everyone. I need my life tried under money pressure and to receive from Jesus the abundant life He purchased through His shed blood, a life which defines and is only operative under redemption and all that He purchased. Life has always governed the world, before the world eternal life governed life and after the world eternal life will still govern life, life will be absolute to live eternally. We were not purchased with silver or gold, but the blood of Jesus. Jesus set up a brand new reciprocal way of life, He redeemed us through His blood and we are to make all of our transactions through Him. He is the banker of life and rules all of our dealings. It is interesting that the term buy is used. It makes one think intensely. The word that comes to my mind in association with the word buy is redeemed and only Jesus can redeem life out of the marketplace of sin. If something is redeemed, it is purchased. In turn Him counseling us to buy of Him, entails that He is holder of the merchandise and that we are no longer locked into a world system in which monetary means is the only way to transact. In the world system we use money for this operation. If you sell you inevitably will have to buy also, and if you buy that completes the transaction.
We walk by faith and not by sight; is the biblical and godly principle which determines how successful we want to or will be. Trust in God is the high mark for following Jesus. Jesus is the prime and true example of what walking by faith is all about. Why is it not advisable to walk by sight? Sight only displays what we can see, hear and what ours senses are telling us. It doesn’t provide a wide-range scope of all that is necessary.
We know in part and temporal knowledge can only provide temporal answers. We are more than the temporal, we are eternal beings and have been given eternal principles and standards for accessing God. He who comes to God must believe that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him, which involves faith. We can only accomplish seeking God regardless of all opposition and what sight is telling us by trusting God in and through every situation and inherently know that He has the answer to every problem and that He is bigger and greater than every problem we can or will be faced with.
Our faith began with Jesus, who is the author of our faith; an author is a writer, we very rarely see an author unless we know one personally, or in the media somehow. Yet an author is speaking through what is written, not verbally but through writing. A reader hears and listens by reading. By the act of reading you are hearing, listening and adhering to the imperative of faith coming by hearing. It can be plainly seen by the obedience we utilize in our life as a Christian who is governed by reading the Word of God. We must develop the discipline and engage ourselves to read the Word of God because it is how He speaks to us, He is the author and every character in scripture is His orchestration and who He chose to use for every purpose He ordained them for. The just shall live by their own faith. The just have come to understand and know what justice entails, that justice is fairness that only God has, His mercy endures forever. Now isn't that fairness. May grace and truth walk hand and hand with you and be your closest companions.
