How to time events in tarot

There are several ways you can time events in tarot.

One way is to use the suit of swords.

The suit of swords in tarot is all about our thoughts and the way in which we communicate. But there is another meaning to swords in tarot and that is Time. Swords are about what governs our sense of reality, and time is a part of that; more so then we might realise. Without time our lives have no structure. The structure of time is what the swords can define for us in a reading. There are many examples how you can use this in a reading; especially in timing of events or if you want to find out how old someone is. You can give the swords a predetermined time frame and then ask the question; the sword card that shows up first gives you the answer.

For example lets say you give the cards a time period of 10 years and you only use the cards from ace of swords to ten of swords; thus excluding the court cards. Each sword card from 1-10 equals 1 year. Then mix the entire deck and pull out one card at the time. The first sword card you get is the answer. You can also give the sword cards from 1-10 approximate time frame; ace of swords being present to near future; ten of swords being long distance future.

Ace of swords can represent a young child or a baby. Ten of swords can represent old age.

Other ways of timing in tarot

There are of course other ways of determining when something will happen. I use three different spreads; 6-months, 1-year and 5-year spreads. Depending on what the question was I look in the cards for clues when it is most likely this will happen. Let's say someone wants to get pregnant and they want to know if it will happen within 1-year. You can lay one card for each months and repeat the sequence until each month has 2 cards in it. Does any card speak of pregnancy. If not, do the 5-year spread. 1 card per month over 5 years. Does any card signify the special event taking place? This is how you can use the tarot cards to determine timing of events in tarot.

Continuously utilize your instinct when using the tarot cards. Practise your tarot readings skills as often as you can.

Tarot and astrology

Another way to time events using tarot is the cards astrological link.

The tarot cards have an astrological significance as well, and knowing about this can help you in timing of events in your tarot readings. For example Aries is connected to the Emperor and therefore gives it date between March 21 and April 19.

There are also different cycles and seasons seen in the tarot cards that can be used when determining when something will happen. The Fool is connected to Uranus; the planet known for its 7-year cycle; giving the Fool a time frame of 7 years. The Magician is connected to the planet Mercury which spends 88 days orbiting the sun. Thus the Magician has the 88 day time frame. The High Priestess is connected to the moon and has a time frame of 28/29 days due to the full moon cycle.

It takes the planet Venus 244 days to make one rotation; and since the Empress is connected to Venus it gives this tarot card a time frame of 244 days.

Tarot Cards and Timing of events using the minor arcana.

There is no doubting the many ways of timing events using the Tarot cards. Even the minor arcana cards is a tool, especially if you are after more specific dates. The minor arcana cards except the aces and the court cards all have certain dates attached to them due to their connection with the Zodiac.

For example two of pentacles has the time cycle from December 22- December 30.

Sometimes the tarot cards are not trying to tell us about certain dates or cycles in a question about timing. It can be the meaning of the card that is the answer. For example the Fool has a time frame of 88 days, but the meaning of the card is new beginnings and a fresh start. So the answer to the question about when a certain thing will happen could very well be: When you let go of you emotional baggage and start fresh again.

If you are unsure what the tarot cards are telling you start again. Don't be afraid to pick the cards up and re-shuffle. Ask the cards to answer you in a way that you can understand. By adding the: In a way I can understand to the questions alter the way the tarot chooses to communicate with you. You will be able to get clearer answers because the tarot will give you the card combinations that trigger a certain association in your head.

Tell the tarot how you want to receive the answer.

You can also tell the tarot how you would like it to communicate with you before you shuffle and lay out the cards. Say to the cards: I want to know how many days before this happens. This time the answer will not be the meaning of the cards but the dates and cycles discussed earlier.
