The world today need noble characters!

Updated on January 14, 2013

The great Teacher with his students!

Follow the ideals set by great masters!

Originally we were pure, blemish less, selfless and all embracing. When we started interacting with the world, we started gathering dirt and dust on our Being. This is the Truth about every one of us. We were all as innocent as the newborn babies. We were influenced first by our parents and co-born. Then relatives and friends influenced us by their habits and behaviors. It is the bad influence which we catch very easily than good habits and qualities. Of course young persons readily imbibe even good values if their parents insist them. By and large, society’s influence is mostly on the negative side.

Hence Sri Sathya Saibaba has started a programme for younger boys and girls. It is to educate them on human values. They were taught first to obey their parents and elders, revere them and learn good things. They were taught about the life of great persons who lived in this world like Jesus Christ, Prophet Mohammad, Buddah, Mahavira and Gurunanak. Truth has to be fostered more than our life. The stories of noble people such as Harischandra, who sacrificed his all for the sake of Truth, King Sibi who sliced his thigh to give food to a hawk in order to save a dove from the hawk. Children learn about Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King who sacrificed their life for the sake of downtrodden and racially abused people. The mind of children is tender. It can be motivated in a positive manner. But in the case of elders, it is very difficult to change their character. Hence Saibaba preferred to start with young children. Those who had undergone the programme are now in their mid fifties. Most of them follow the tenets taught to them during their childhood and they in turn coerce their children in the Bala Vikas programme.

It is pertinent to note that not only in India but in many foreign countries, Sathya Sai child care programme(Bala Vikas) is being conducted every week. There is one school in Zambia started based on the ideals of Sathya Sai Educare programme. The school has become a monumental school. Initially boys who were left in the streets were admitted in the school with residential programme. They were hard to correct since they accumulated many vices and bad qualities when they were in the streets. Now they have become the gems of the school due to noble teachings and character infusion. Newspapers in Zambia carried the news of transformation of the characters of the students due to the adoption of human value education of Sathya Sai programme. Hence the children should be taught noble ideals in their early stages and they will become responsible citizens of society and the world. Today the world needs people with noble characters. Then only we can get over all peace and prosperity in the world!

I agree that babies are innocent, but not selfless as suggested in your first sentence. Anyway, Sri Sathya Saibaba's efforts are valuable. Thanks for sharing.
