Theme Word - 2018
People the world over will be celebrating today, as it is New Year’s Eve. I must apologize for not wanting to take part in any of the festivities. For me, today and tonight is just another day on the calendar with a full day of activities, even if it is cold outside. There is a home office to get re-organized; a living room to dust, sweep, and mop; a bathroom to get scrubbed; laundry to be done; the kids need to clean up their bedrooms; Michaela has training at her new place of employment. And, even though we all have a whole week before we start back to Quarter Three (for the kids) and my next term at SNHU, we are gearing up for those startups; in fact, I’ve been playing around with my next two classes (Humanities (Ugh!) and Psychology of Personality), and I’ve decided to use the Bible as my final project artifact. So, no, no New Year’s Eve celebrations for us, we may all be asleep even before the clock strikes midnight. And, no, there will be no New Year’s Day celebrations for us tomorrow either. There will be grocery shopping and getting Michaela to work (if she’s scheduled).
In the past, mostly as a kid, some as an adult, I have made New Year’s resolutions. You know, all the usual ones- I’m gonna obey my dad and mom better. I’m gonna not sweat the small stuff anymore. I’m gonna lose ten pounds this year. I’m gonna read 300 books this year. I’m gonna crochet eight blankets this year. And on and on. And, none of the resolutions lasted past my birthday- January 14th. A couple of years ago, I started proclaiming a one word or small phrase theme to the new year. I’ve had “simplify” and I’ve had “advance”. These are themes that carry throughout the year. These themes teach me new things every day of the year, and it becomes a blessing to me. A blessing, a gift, that I get to open every day, even multiple times throughout the day sometimes.
My theme word for 2018 is EXPECTATION.
Introduction ... continued
I am always telling Mark, the kids, and many other people, “Hope equals expectation.”; yet, sometimes I fail at remembering this myself.
For three terms in a row, I’ve had a Statistics class- Applied Statistics, Statistics II: Research I, and Statistics III: Research II: Scientific Investigations -and I’ve struggled, even though I earned an ‘A’ for each of these three Statistics classes. I’m good at Mathematics; give me Math problems 24/7/365 and I’ll be as happy as a kid in a candy store … unless they are word problems. And, that’s how Statistics work is, its word problems. And, so, I struggled to be able to set up the proper equations with the proper μ,
Yirmi’yah (Jeremiah) 29:11--”’For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,’says Adonai, ‘thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.’”
Romans 8:28--”We know that all things work together for good for those who love YeHoVaH, for those who are called according to His purpose.”
2 Timothy 2:19--”However YeHoVaH’s firm foundation stands, having this seal, ‘Adonai knows those who are His,’ and, ‘Let every one who names the Name of Adonai depart from unrighteousness.’”
Yochanan-Aleph (1 John) 2:25--”This is the promise which He has promised us, the eternal life.”
A Prayer of Expectation
Mashali (Proverbs) 23:17-19--”Don’t let your heart envy sinners; but rather fear Adonai all day long. Indeed surely there is a future hope, and your hope will not be cut off. Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path!”
