There is Nothing to Fear

Updated on March 17, 2015

"Fear is only as deep as the mind allows." --Japanese Proverb

"Fears are educated into us, and can, if we wish, be educated out." --Karl Augustus Menninger

False Evidence Appearing Real

“FEAR” stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. But if that is true, then why are so many individuals paralyzed by it? Why do we let fear control our lives?

In fact, so many people in this world are afraid of following their hearts; afraid of following their dreams. But when it comes down to it:

People are afraid of failing. Afraid of the unknown. Afraid to be themselves. Afraid of what tomorrow brings.

In addition, we hear countless stories about individuals that are in abusive relationships that are terrified of leaving their abusers. Many of these individuals would rather experience the abuse than leave the situation. We are also familiar with the fact that millions of people work jobs they hate; and, sadly, most stay, because they are afraid that they will not find anything better. Now, is this true?

If we look at many spiritual teachings, these sources tell us not to give into fear, yet we almost always do. Why? Do we not trust our spiritual teachings? I believe the answer is: We do not trust ourselves. We believe we are powerless. We claim we have faith in God, but when it comes down to it, what we discover is that we do not have much faith in ourselves.

We Attract What We Fear

We attract what we fear? Yes. Why is that?

We are vibrational beings and can only attract what we are sending out.

If we are in a state of fear, we can only attract things on a similar vibration. This is the “Law of Attraction.” It helps to think of it like a radio frequency. If your radio is tuned into 95.5 FM, you are not going to hear what is being broadcast on 106.7 FM.

These are two different frequencies—two different radio stations.

The same is true with our thoughts and emotions. If we are in a state of fear, we are not going to attract feelings of security. In addition, we have to understand that our thoughts are powered by the intensity of the emotions that we are feeling.

Emotions are energy in motion.

Therefore, it could also be said that when we are afraid of something, we are giving it power.

Language of the Soul

I believe that “feelings” are the gateway to the soul. They let you know if you are on track or not. If you want to experience love and joy, but are feeling fear, it is clear that you are not in alignment with the feelings that you want to experience. You must be loving and joyful to experience those emotions.

You cannot be that which you are not.

Remember: You have to be tuned into the radio station called love in order to experience it.

Thank you very much for the kind words. I have, too, let fear stop me from following my heart. I'm glad that you are aware of fear. We tend to give it our power. That doesn't have to be so.

Thank you for such a beutifully written piece! I spent many years living in and from that place of fear. Now I am learning to recognize fear and to simply allow it but not move from it. If I can take the time to notice and then recognize (even call it by name) that it is simply fear, I more easily move away and into Presence. From Presence, all things are possible.

      Thank you again for sharing!

Yes, fear is a huge emotion which can either hold us back or propel us forward.

I think fear has its pros... for example your fear may be to not live a life of regrets, so this will motivate you to live your dream :)
