Theresa Caputo - Is the Long Island Medium For Real?
Who is Theresa Caputo?
Theresa Caputo is self proclaimed Medium who claims to speak to the deceased. She stars on a TLC reality TV show which follows her as she gives people readings and speaks with different clients about their deceased loved on. Caputo can be seen doing everyday things, when suddenly she feels or hears a spirit and is drawn to people out in the public. She could be eating at a restaurant, shopping at the mall, getting gas, doing almost anything and a spirit may direct her to go up to a perfect stranger to tell a loved one a message.
Multiples sources such as "Inside Edition" have claimed that Caputo's claims to be a medium are completely false and she is benefiting from the grief of individuals who have lost a loved one.
In addition to Theresa's reality TV show, she now travels the country giving readings in front of thousands of people.
Why We Want Her To Be Real...
People truly want Theresa Caputo to be real because if she is who she says she is... then there is much more to this life than meets the eye. No one wants to believe that there is nothing after this life. Who wants to think about the idea of ceasing to exist when you die. People want to have faith that there is something more. I am not here to discuss the existence of a higher power or not. I simply wanted to bring up the fact, that most individuals want her to be legitimate because of their wanting of something more, which may sway them more towards believing her.
Religion has been around since man's existence. Humans have always seemed to believe in some higher power. Even early civilizations believed in higher powers. Is it because there is a higher power or is it because its hard to imagine life and it all ending when you die. It's a terrifying thought to think that its all over when you die. No one wants to imagine their loved ones as ceasing to be when they die. We want them to still be with us in some way, not just buried and decaying in the ground. It's faith and hope that leads us to believe that they have just moved on to a better place. I would much rather think there is a nice after life place that we go to, instead of believing it just ends. Life seems to lose its luster if it all ends when we die. Why be good? Why love? Why do anything... if it all ends anyway. It is that slight bit of faith and hope that humans grip to hoping that there is an after-life, and yes I grip to that belief too because believing the other version is too damn depressing.
If Theresa Caputo Isn't Really a Medium...
There is a good possibility that Mrs. Caputo is a complete and utter fake. Science and basic logic tell our brains that she's not talking to dead people, however, or faith and hope want her to be. The truth is.. if Theresa is a fake, she is one of the most evil people in the world. She must truly have a black heart to be making money off of grieving individuals.
If Caputo is a fake she has become very wealthy using the deaths and deep grief of people all over America. She hasn't only used adults, she can be seen speaking with children too and using their innocence if she is a fake. Caputo will often "deliver" messages from the dead to children. The young children sit and listen very intently to every word Caputo says, and with tears in their eyes they believe her, because how could someone lie about such a thing. How could a human look into a child's eyes and justify the type of lying Caputo would have to be doing if she was a fake.
Theresa may justify herself from feeling guilt by saying I am helping people move on... but she can in no way justify that she is doing good. Even if she makes people feel better at the time, she is giving people false hope. Some would say false hope is better than none at all, but to them I would say the following: If a doctor told their cancer patient that they were going to survive and live a long happy life, even though the cancer had spread all through the patient's body and there was no chance of survival. Society would be very upset about this because the doctor is just telling the patient what they want to hear. The doctor is giving the patient false hope. Similar to what Caputo might be doing if she is indeed a fake.
However, it gets worse. Caputo doesn't just take money from willing and grieving customers. She can be seen on her reality television show going up to complete strangers and inserting herself into their lives and telling them "messages" from individuals who have past. If Caputo is a fake and she is inserting herself into a perfectly content person's life who is just going about their normal day, she must be completely cold hearted and egotistical. If Caputo is a fake there is no justification for walking up to a complete stranger and stirring emotions in them from the grief they felt when they lost a loved one. She is simply doing it, to do it, if she is faking. So if Theresa Caputo is a fake and tells herself it's okay because i'm helping people move on, then why does she insert herself into people's life who didn't ask her to be there. So either she is a real medium or is the worse kind of evil there is.

Theresa Caputo's Shows Across the Nation
Caputo tours the nation having shows in front of audiences in the thousands. She provides cold reads for "random" audience members in front of everyone. I have attended one of these shows and I must say I was deeply disappointed by what I saw and heard.
Mrs. Caputo entered the stage dressed in her highly expensive clothes, high heels, pedicure, make-up perfectly done, and hair styled to the nines. She began explaining how things worked, and one of the first things that disturbed me was when she told the audience that just because she is talking to a specific audience member it does not mean she is not also talking to you. She called this "piggybacking." Caputo's description of "piggybacking" was when a spirit gave her a message for an audience member but really it was a message for many audience members from their relatives too. So for example if she said I have a female presence here that passed away from a trauma to the head, and the spirit says she's okay and she loves you. This could be for multiple people who have had a woman in their life die from some type of head trauma. That was the first strange thing.
As Caputo's performance continued on, I noticed that her readings were very vague. They could fit almost anyone. Or Caputo would say something that almost anyone could relate to and then wait for an audience member to say that it relates to them. It seemed like the old tricks that "false" mediums have used for years.
I have also read stories about "audience members" at Caputo's shows, who focus on individuals that seem deeply upset or grieving a great deal and ask them many questions about their loved ones death. The individuals asking the questions seem to be plants in the audience gaining info about people so Theresa can prepare her readings prior to the show beginning.
So Is She Real?
I don't know if she is real or not. I don't think anyone truly knows the truth except for Theresa and her close family. There is a good chance that she is a complete fake and taking advantage of the hurting and grieving. She may have started out only working with clients who asked her for help and she may have justified her lies as helping grieving people move on. But now Caputo has gone much further than that. She is manipulating millions of people and complete strangers on the street. There is not justification for that. Money can do crazy things to people and the honest truth is the public doesn't really know anything about Theresa Caputo. People have faked being mediums in the past and she could be doing it now and TLC made be helping her do it. However, Caputo is playing with people's emotions and if she is a fake, I don't know how her or her family can look at themselves in the mirror each and every day.
