Thorns in the Flesh
Thorn in the Flesh
II Corinthians 12:1-9 “It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities. For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me. And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Heavenly Father, who, through the preaching of Your servant, the Apostle Paul. You have caused the light of the Gospel to shine throughout the world. Grant, I pray, that I, having His wonderful conversion in remembrance, may show forth my own thankfulness unto You for Your unmerited and undeserved grace and mercy. By Faith and Love, through obedience as proof of that love, I day by day seek to follow the holy doctrine which he taught at the urging and illumination of Your Holy Spirit and gave to us Your Wisdom, Your Holy Word, and Your Ways. As Paul shared with us the Only Way to the father is through the Narrow Gate which is Jesus Christ. My Messiah and Your only begotten Son who died for the sins of all mankind.
I so often feel that my own requests and petitions are petty, indeed incomparable to the tragedies which afflict mankind by the works of satan, Your adversary as well as mankind's. Sometimes I feel as if the utterances of my prayers are as nothing. Yet these very things are important to me, having caused my heart to be heavy within me. As the problems I present to You become burdensome in my own life and within my own mind.
Help us all Lord, to learn to depend on You for all our strength and help. When we read we see that Paul was like us in that he wanted all things to work for his healing as he petitioned You that the “thorn in his flesh" be removed.. Yet you told him that Your grace was sufficient three different times. I know that often I may complain when I get my eyes off of You and onto the problem itself. At times I become impatient because you don’t seem to remove my problems when I want them to be removed. May I learn that in all things Your grace and Your strength through your Holy Spirit are more than sufficient for any man, woman or child who would choose to serve You, the One and Only Living God of all creation.
May I hold dear the truth and know that Your strength is made perfect in my / our weakness. That in sinful pride I not become "self-righteous". For righteousness is not something that I, even being a redeemed sinner, have achieved nor do I possess any righteousness within myself. But instead You have clothed us with the righteousness that is of Christ, if indeed He is our Lord and Savior. For if He is then we wear the Wedding Garments washed in the precious Blood of the sinless Lamb of God, slain from the foundation of the earth. Through His Blood poured out upon Calvary’s cross we have been forgiven as we have been washed in Your sacrificial, life giving Blood.
Let us always keep the precious knowledge before us, the cost that You paid so that we could live eternally with You.
It is through faith in Christ Jesus and You, Father, that I continually stand under that sanctifying cleansing flow as I repent and seek Your forgiveness when I transgress Your Law. I only want to be of service in your kingdom and to be a part of spreading the wonderful Truth of the Gospel Message contained in your Word. As I ever seek in my humanity to share the awesomeness of Your unconditional love.
"Give us this day Lord our God, our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we, through You, forgive those that we feel have trespassed against us. Bless all our loved ones and protect them. Save those who are as yet unsaved. This we pray in the precious Holy Name of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ. Praise be to God the Father, for the Gift of God the Son as He poured into us the sanctifying regenerative Power of God the Holy Spirit. Whom He in His perfect plan of redemption, broke the chains that bound us, even as we were yet bound in sins power. Praise be to God, Who IS our Lord, Savior and Redeemer.
“For it is by His Grace we have been saved, and that not of ourselves. It is the Gift of God, lest anyone should boast."
Amen and Amen
