Online Bible Verses about Salvation by Grace through Faith - Titus Chapter 2

Updated on August 3, 2012

“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,” Titus 2:11-12NIV

Note the order of operation here. Grace --> salvation --> living upright and godly lives.

Salvation by grace. Grace being what is given yet not deserved. Specifically, in this case, salvation is imparted to the sinner. That sinner being me, deserving separation from the very God who has come up with a way to fix my terminal illness.

So God fixed it, not I. Once He goes to work, I am able to live in an increasingly godly fashion. My good works are the result of His work.

Now consider in reverse order, the stairway to heaven fallacy:

Living upright and godly lives --> salvation.

Note that in this case, grace cannot be part of the process. That because grace is not partial, it cannot coexist with man as a contributor.

This gift we speak of, then, is free. Come to think of it, any gift must be or it is no gift at all.
