To be the janitor and/or the garbage man: my biggest aspiration

Updated on May 30, 2017

The janitor or the garbage man? An incredible aspiration.

Humility is an incredible blessing. It truly is. Maybe it s the biggest blessing of all. My biggest aspiration is to gain Heaven and to be the janitor and/or the garbage man. That is my ultimate aspiration. Let me tell you that will be just fine by me. It took me many years to realize that I am here just as a helper, a servan and nothing more. God has put this on my heart and has shown me that serving is better than being served. That giving is better than receiving. Helping someone is much more rewarding than receiving help. The only personal prayer that remains is for Him to keep me strong enough to serve and have the ability to lift someone else up and give them hope, kindness and compassion. He seems to be at work in my life and I can tell you that there is no better feeling in the world. God is so very incredibly good to me and has shown me the way that it has become the very least that I can do. Being humble is indeed like medicine. God is so very, very good. We have an incredible savior in Jesus. I am now and will continue to be simply His servant. Abide in Him and He will abide in you. There is nothing greater.

He teaches us and He saves us with His love. One of many bible stories that always stands out to me is when Jesus tells the apostles that they have shown care and love by feeding Him and sheltering Him and giving Him drink. They ask Him when did we do these things for you? He answers by telling them when you have done this for the least of you, you have also done it for Me. That is indeed the Spirit of God. Can you put someone else in front of yourself? Well, can you?

What an incredible role model we have in Jesus Christ. He is always selfless even to the point of the cross. We are left with realizing that those times that God places before us are the ultimate opportunities. They are in essence our opportunities to serve. We must do so without any personal accolade in mind. It is not about us. The goal should always be to be as far from self serving as we can be even with our selfish nature. We need to take on the nature of Jesus and let Him work in our lives. If we open our hearts He will do just that. Here are some verses for serving our Savior:

Galatians 5:13 For you brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Psalm 119:125 I am your servant ; Give me understanding, That I may know your testimonies.

Colossians 3:23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to The Lord and not to men, knowing that from The Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve The Lord Christ.

2 Corinthians 4:5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus The Lord, and ourselves your bond servants for Jesus' sake.

1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of The Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in The Lord.

God bless always.
