Top 10 Greatest Love Stories in the Bible
Okay, I know it’s not easy to suppress a love story in an article, but just to get a glimpse of it; it’s worth your time. We all saw dramatic love stories on movies but many of them aren’t real. These lists of love stories are real one and you better get your Kleenex tissue ready.
10) Adam and Eve
The first couple lived on Earth. They have everything yet still aren’t content and ate the forbidden fruit. After that sin crawled into their lives, their love story became “you and me against the world”. Their super perfect beginning of love story turned to be tragic when one of their son Cain murdered Abel. Ever wonder what could have happen if Adam didn’t even let Eve came near the serpent?
9) Abraham and Sarah
God called Abraham to be the father of nations and to have descendants as numerous as the stars. Abraham is at old age and yet he obeys God to get out of the land he and Sarah was settled. Another thing is Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old. It’s impossible in human logic to believe that they will have a child. Abraham knew that God’s promises to him will become a reality. So she convinced Sarah whom at first was very doubtful. But still Sarah submits and supports his husband’s decision. And then God did prosper them in every way. They acquire wealth and became parents of Isaac. Their love to each other became stronger even if they were oldies and proved that in everything, if we have God on our side we will surely come out victorious.
8) Isaac and Rebekah
This is a love story that proved to be an evidence that parents can be your greatest ally on your love life. Abraham just like any other parent who wants the best for his child’s future, ordered his servant to go look for a wife for Isaac in their native land and must be one of their close relative. Abraham’s servant did so with a heartfelt prayer to the Lord to help him find a wife for Isaac. The servant met Rebekah who was described in the bible as very beautiful and a virgin. She is drawing water and allowed the servant and his thirsty camels to drink. This is one of the signs the servant had prayed for. And true enough, Rebekah is a descendant of Nahor, Abraham’s brother and a perfect match for Isaac. The two loved each other and they get married.
7) Jacob and Rachel
Their love story literally endures time. Jacob was known to deceive his brother Esau to take his birth right. Years after, when he was about to marry Rachel, he got a dose of his own medicine. Laban, Rachel’s father asked Jacob to work for seven years tending flocks to get her daughter’s hand. On the wedding night, Laban replaces Rachel with her sister Leah. Jacob was furious upon knowing this deception. Laban then ask him again to work for another seven years to marry Rachel. So Jacob worked and endures those times just to marry the one he loved.
6) Boaz and Ruth
A love story in the time of famine. A proof that there is really a happy ending! Ruth was currently widowed and left with her mother- in- law Naomi. Ruth was gleaning to the farm that happens to be owned by Boaz. Ruth and Boaz first meet up was pleasant as Boaz stood as a gentleman, advised her to just glean only in his farm to protect her. Boaz even ordered his men not to lay a hand in her. He invited her over lunch as well. Boaz was surprisingly a relative of Naomi’s family and was therefore a kinsman redeemer. Ruth did what Naomi advices to talk to Boaz and tell her story. Boaz willingly accepted his responsibility to be a kinsman redeemer of Ruth. Then they get married and had a son. Evidently, the events here aren’t coincidence; God must have pre written their love story.
5) Hosea and Gomer
An unlikely love story. God commanded Hosea to marry someone. That is Gomer, a prostitute. This was God telling the Israelites how painful it is to abandon him and worship other gods .It was like marrying a prostitute. It was fascinating how prophet Hosea obeyed God and still pursues Gomer who was still in the business though they are married.
4) Zechariah and Elizabeth
They were before a childless couple. People during those times consider it a curse. Elizabeth was Mary’s cousin and Zechariah was a priest. They lived a life that pleases God. They are indeed a couple to look up to because their faith and love to each other didn’t fade. Zechariah could have divorced Elizabeth but they still continually believed that God will give them a child. On an occasion, an angel appeared to Zechariah saying that they will have a child. It was an extraordinary, exciting and astonishing event. With a human weakness of doubt Zechariah didn’t believed it at first. The angel said that because of this, he will lose his ability to speak and hear until the day that the child named John will be born. And so it happened, John (who would later be known as the Baptist and Jesus' cousin) was born and Zechariah was able to speak and hear as what the prophecy of the angel.
3) Joseph and Mary
Joseph could have leaved Mary because she was not virgin anymore and they are about to get married. But by an angel’s message, Joseph’s hesitation vanished. She helped Mary to keep the child safe. True enough, what an honor it must be to be the parents Son of God. Joseph stood for Mary through thick and thin. Both of them were willing to be used by God. And they proved that they help raised Jesus who has saved a lot of souls.
2) God and His Son
We might find it odd how a father could sacrifice his child for the sake of us. Maybe there are things we can fathom because He is God. Truly it must have crushed God’s heart to see people he just created punished his son Jesus on the cross. But in the end it was all worth it. Jesus obeyed His Father’s will wholeheartedly. The result, many of God’s children were saved and came running to him again.
1) Jesus and us (sinners)
Jesus love for us is the ultimate love story. Though he can have a comfortable life in heaven, he chose to feel the pain, humiliation and death. Many times he could have ask His Father to not to let it happen, but still, he even prays for those who persecute him. Jesus is the ultimate Lover ever known. And his love to us resounds still now. This love is what the bible scholars called Agape, the highest form of love. It’s love more than a brother or anything romantic.
