Treatise on How to Attain Heaven-Free Will-Seeking Truth-Eternal Reward

Updated on June 24, 2012

A true Christian is a rarity in this world. Consider all the temptations God allows us. He wants only the finest in His Kingdom and so therefore we must go through the fire. It is very complex for one to understand God and His ways, God is a mystery of which we will never fully understand. But isn't that the beauty of it? We will never be bored in the next life, for God will always have surprises for us!!

God created us to show forth His love to us, to give us the opportunity to love Him in return. Wasn't it the battle in Heaven between Lucifer and the other angels who chose NOT to serve God and to rebel, that God created us with free will so that our final decision would fix us to either eternal reward or eternal death?

God created us knowing many would betray Him and that He would need to send His Son, Jesus, to save us. But with God there is no limit to His mercy and love..... so He created us anyway, hoping that many would follow Him and become His disciples- friends, and love Him in return.

It is true that a person would be better off never being born than to go to hell. But it takes a conscious decision, just as the angels chose, to go the hell. One must be stubborn and reject the many calls from God to finally fall into hell. Perhaps they reject His grace though they know that the Church is true, that it is the way to salvation, or they reject the kind neighbor and the offers to pray, the offer of their family to accept some help or to help others. Whatever it may be, even if you think of Scrooge, that would be a good description. In the book by Charles Dickens which became a movie, A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge is a man who puts money above all else, even human love, and sees how his death would turn out, by a merciful God who shows him the hell he would endure, if he didn't change his ways.

Hell was often preached about in the old days, I feel it's unfortunate it is rarely talked about now, but if loving God doesn't motivate you, read and meditate on Hell.....and you will change!! The best book about Hell is Hell and How to Avoid Hell by Fr. F.X.Schouppe.

Allowing your heart to feel is the basic way to attain Heaven.

  • having humility
  • showing love to others
  • being pius
  • prayer
  • having a loving relationship with God
  • putting trust or faith in God over all else

The basic feeling of one's heart alone- the desire to follow and serve what is TRUE, whether one is rich, poor, intelligent, mentally challenged, lame, etc.

St. Therese of Lisieux, born Therese Martin, to two very pius parents, said what God told us in the Bible, " You must be like little children to enter the kingdom of Heaven". This means not that we should be ignorant or small in size, but that our hearts must be innocent and pure, and willing to obey. Little children naturally desire to do good, to obey their parents, to want disipline, they are unbiased and unjaded and can be easily transformed into practically anything.

The Lord also warns not to harm any of His little ones or lead them astray, for it would be better for you to have a milestone cast about your neck and be plunged into the sea. This means how great a sin it is to corrupt innocent children and lead them towards hell.

God = our Father

It will take a lifetime of "tests"

It will take a lifetime of crosses

until we reach the point where we carry our cross willingly. Some say this life is a test and only a prepartion for the next life. How many say they have to much time and wonder how to kill time, when time is precious! Time is all we have to find truth and attain our final goal-heaven. Death, Judgement, Heaven, and Hell is what should be on our minds.

Carrying Our Cross Willingly

But we say, "No, Lord! This cross is too heavy! It's too hard, I cannot make it. And God will give us a break. Eventually over time, we may come to say, "Yes Lord, this cross IS difficult, I don't like it, but do with me as you will. I love you, Lord."

What a lifelong journey! How happy we could be to one day say, "Lord I want to serve you, so whatever suffering or joy you give me, I will accept it for you. I love you."

Wow. We could also say, "Nothing else matters....I know I will be in Heaven with you one day Lord, and by prayer and example I wish to help influence and help save souls."

Many people never reach this point but we must pray they will. God says it is a spiritual work of mercy to pray for sinners. This is the kindest thing we can do, and by being a good example. Somehow, God uses the evil of this world- allowed by the devil's perfect and discipline his saints. We will never know everything but if we follow Jesus by seeking the truth.... "Seek ye the truth and ye shall find it" "Knock and it shall be opened" we will know what to do and how to do it.

Whatever you've been told as a child, however you've been brought up, you CAN change it. God loves you and desires you---you have no idea HOW MUCH!

God forgives you for everything. Until the moment of your death, He will send "angels" be it people, signs, good things, even sickness, to get you to see He's there.

Does hearing about hell help you or would you rather focus on love of God?

schoolgirl: A really nice job. Well done. If one is to believe in Heaven, then one has to know about Hell too. One can't exist without the other.

      Brother Dave.

      Hi lambservant,

I appreciate your visit and your commenting, though I beg to differ--just as to quit smoking you need to be reminded of cancer, people in sin- if they can't love God or are not at that point Yet, need to at least be afraid of Hell for motivation..but I don't mean we should preach hell all the time, but talk about it a bit more, as in Catholic Churches it is hardly mentioned.

I did not want to Tell people what to do specifically as you know people are led to Christ in many ways, and yes these things I mentioned many be by products or additional helps....there is no one recipe to find Christ and sometimes it turns people off the say that. :)

Hell is not a popular topic these days. No one, myself included, wants to hear about the fires of hell. But it is vital that we know both sides of the coin. If one decided not to choose Christ, thus choose not to go to heaven, they have to know that they are then choosing hell. Sinners need to know there is a hell and they will go there if they do not turn to Christ.

In regards to attaining heaven, the Bible says To call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. Also to repent of your sins. You can do that in the form of a prayer, but I don't think general practice of prayer, piety, or feelings are what help us attain heaven. Jesus said "whosoever believeth in Him (Jesus) will have eternal life." In my understanding of the bible, the things you listed are more of a by-product of Giving your life to Christ. I really enjoyed this article. It was indeed well written. I vote up and beautiful. God bless SGFR.
