True Story: A Hand In The Clouds

Updated on September 1, 2010

My Dad Preaching

There is nothing like being called of God.
There is nothing like being called of God.

This is a true account that happened to me and my father in my teenage years.

We had nearly finished a huge remodeling project to restore a turn of the century schoolhouse into a three-story dream home for our happy family of seven. We stripped it right down to the original chalk board walls and found many amazing pieces of history along the way.

My father designed us all a beautiful bedroom and everything was just on it's way to a picture perfect life. My mother, a beautiful interior decorator out-did herself with imaginative detail and colors that left the home with an intriguing Victorian atmosphere.

It was a small town country life, an ideal place we planned on staying a while.

My father, who is a minister begin feeling the call to pioneer a church around 45 minutes away. The little church had 3 elderly ladies that still wanted to attend, but that was it.

As a close family we were somewhat supportive, but couldn't bear the idea of moving away at that point.

Continuing to pray my father became deeply burdened and sincerely asked God for direction.

One evening I was riding with my father home from church I believe when suddenly looking ahead we saw a massive hand formation in the clouds. ( This wasn't your normal finding shapes in the clouds.) The hand was pointing the exact direction of the church my dad was burdened for. The hand had every detail down to the lines in the fingers, nails and the robe sleeve hanging from the wrist. It took several acres of sky, totally magnificent, yet awe striking.

My father jerked to the side of the road and burst into tears, crying out in prayer. I thought Jesus had come I said, " Dad is that Jesus coming?" He said, " No, that is God giving us direction!"

After that amazing incident we continued home and told the family what we saw and experienced.

As a God-fearing family we could not deny the calling of God so we started praying whether we should just drive from our home to church or move next to it.

I watched my precious mother do one of the hardest things she ever done, surrender her home to God's will. She had a certain amount of money come to mind while she prayed so she said," God if it's really your will I sell this house to move by the church then let someone come to us and offer us this amount." A few days later a man came in our yard we have never seen before. He told my father that he currently was fostering several children and he was looking for a place to house his large family. He asked my father if we would be willing to sell. ( We had not breathed a word to anyone, nor did we have a for-sale sign.) He said, " I would like to make an offer." He made an offer for the exact amount Mom had felt like praying for to the penny."

Needless to say we accepted the offer and moved and God gave us 8 glorious years where I saw many people saved and lives changed forever. God helped the church, though it wasn't large and elegant, the Lord was there and that's all that matters.

Many find these things hard to believe, but with God as my witness and my family too we know we serve a great BIG WONDERFUL GOD! When you live your life dedicated to His will and submit to His service, He will alow you to experience more than you could ever imagine. Sometimes it's just a still small voice nudging at your heart or like in this story, a hand in the clouds. You may never see a hand in the clouds, but you by faith can say, " Here am I send me!"

I feel the need to reach out and yet the words to do so fail me. So few know such a depth of faith and commitment. A beautiful story that should - by itself - point the way. Thank you.

Excellent hub. Sometimes we need testimonies like these to be reminded that God is still at work today and still wants to be intimately involved in our lives. I pray we all seek Him for a life less ordinary.
