Try to Learn Something New Every Day

Updated on July 10, 2012

Learn Something New Every Day… What can you do with that?

Learn Something New Every Day…When you were in school, of course you learned something new every day. You learned math, science, reading or history. But what about after school? What did you learn then? You probably learned how to hold down a job and how to function in society. Maybe you learned how to be a grown up or to pay your bills.

Learn Something New Every Day… We never really stop learning, we just reach a point in life when learning isn’t a priority. But what if you decided today to Learn Something New Every Day for this week or this month? Would you focus on one subject or would you just gather random facts? You could google all day long and learn all kinds of good stuff. You could go to friends or strangers and ask them “What do you know that I don’t?” It’s even possible you could learn the old fashion way and simply read a book.

But no matter what you do hard how hard you try, all these resources won’t help you learn what’s important in life.

Learn Something New Every Day… To me this means to learn about life and philosophy. It means to learn about faith and morals, like to pray often and be kind to others. Sure, you can read all you care to, talk to friends or google stuff all day long, but the lesson won’t be the same as if you were living it.

You should live each day as you normally would, go to work or sit on the couch. Don’t search for something new to learn, it will come to you when you least expect it. It will come through a conversation with an elderly lady at the grocery store or from a child talking about a game he played at school. Maybe it will show up on your daily walk to the mailbox.

Whatever you do, wherever you go you will Learn Something New Every Day. It’ll happen before you know it and when it does, you can say to yourself “Uh-huh, that’s my learn something new for today. “

I’ve been learning something new every day for as long as I can remember. Now if I could just recall half of what I’ve learned, I would really have something to write about.

I'm fairly new to this 'writing in public' thing, I used to write in high school (way back in the day!) and as an adult, I've often thought of writing but I thought 'who would want to read my stuff?' And then I decided to put it out there and I've gotten nothing but positive feedback!! I'm so thrilled that now I have make myself stop writing long enough for chores and such... haha.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I didn't occur to me that putting my thought into words could inspire someone! That in itself has inspired me even more!

Thanks for commenting and have a great day!

Linda, what a wonderful hub and so true. From the time we are small children we are pushed to learn about those things that will educate us and help get us "ahead" in life, so we can make good money, etc....which is great but when it comes to the most important things in life like TRUE happiness, contentment and peace of mind, many of us don't "get it" and those are things we can have regardless of our financial situation. It's like that old saying, money can not buy happiness.

This hub is a great reminder to me to focus on the important stuff and then all the other stuff will work itself out. Thank you for this beautiful hub, Voting up!

You're welcome lindalou! :) I used to use that line at work to avoid having to do something new on Friday... I would tell my co-workers that I was going to NAME that new wrinkle after them! "See this one here? I named it____ (their name)" Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't! ;)

Most of the time it just made them laugh, something I liked doing anyway! :)

No! I've never heard that! That is so funny! Makes me wonder, what do you do on Friday to avoid learning something? You cant watch TV or read or google... because, well just read my hub! Thanks for the comment and for giving me something else to think about!

Great advice! Except... did you ever hear the old wives tale that if you learn something new on a Friday, you get another wrinkle? I will try to learn something new every day except Friday! :) :) Great topic! :)
