Using Time Travel to Change Our World

Updated on September 10, 2015

This may seem a bit radical at first, but WE ARE ALL TIME TRAVELERS. I know this may sound like something from a science fiction movie or the overactive imagination of a daydreamer, but there is truth to this statement.

We are constantly traveling to the past and future.

In fact, some people, whether they know it or not, spend a lot of time there. The vehicle that makes this possible is not an actual time machine that we have seen in science fiction movies. Instead, this time traveling vehicle is powered by our thoughts and consciousness. For example, when a person is remembering a past event, their conscious mind is taking them there. Have you ever noticed that when you are deep in thought that people will often try to redirect you back to the present?

“Earth to Johnny! Where have you been?”

What our friend Johnny doesn’t realize is that he did some time traveling. It should be more than obvious that he wasn’t on the current time frame that his friend was on. His mind was somewhere else. Now what about the future?

When people worry and envision a negative outcome, they are visiting a possible future. If the person spends a great deal of time in this state of mind, then it will become their reality. The Buddha shared this powerful message with his followers over two thousand years ago:

We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.”

We are all familiar with the statement: “We reap what we sew.” This outcome can either be positive or negative, depending on the type of energy we give it. What is important to know is that our thoughts lead to actions. For example, if I continue to tell myself that I am useless, I will unconsciously find ways to make this statement true. This is often referred to as self-sabotage. I personally know about this because I used to engage in this type of behavior. I blamed others, not realizing that I was creating my reality. My negative beliefs created a negative outcome. It took me many years to see my important part that I played in this. I stepped from unconscious victim to conscious creator. Once one realizes that they are a powerful creator, a new door of possibilities will begin to open up. With this said, we can, now, consciously re-visit the past, or create the world of our dreams.

Re-Visiting the Past

There may be several reasons for re-visiting the past: We may want to re-visit a happy memory; heal past events; or simply share our love and appreciation.

The first example is something that many of us are quite familiar with. We may pay a visit to an event from our childhood. I fondly remember, as a small child, that I left a trail of bread crumbs from the lake to my father’s classroom. What happened was a small group of ducks entered the room. I’m sure you can use your imagination to see how the class responded. Another helpful way to re-visit the past is with music. It is quite amazing how music acts as a trigger to past events. Even individuals with severe memory loss can remember past events with great clarity. Besides music, movies, objects, places, and even people, can act as time machines that take us to the past.

Re-visiting the past to heal past events is probably one of the most powerful and important things we can do for ourselves. It is very important to note that our past and future have an effect on our present. Whether we are conscious or not, our unresolved issues of the past can still haunt us today. If we hurt somebody in the past, we can re-visit the event. Perhaps we need to apologize and ask for forgiveness. We also need to forgive our past self. Forgiveness will release the karmic ties with the individual. There is also an energetic release that happens when we forgive. We will feel much lighter. In addition, our present will be of a higher quality.

We also may want to re-visit the past to show our appreciation and love. Perhaps we have learned a valuable lesson and want to give our thanks. We may also feel the need to return to the past to share our love with another. Did you ever miss the opportunity to tell someone how much you love them? With our trusty conscious-driven time machine, we can now re-do the scene.

Traveling to the Future

In addition to visiting the past, we can also visit the future. It is important to note that nothing is written in stone. Just because we have been engaging in pessimistic thinking for years doesn’t mean that our future will be bleak. We have the power to shift gears into a higher frequency. Now, I would like to share some powerful tools for creating a positive future.

Visualization is a powerful technique in creating a desired outcome. What is really important is the belief and feelings while doing this? It is also important to do this on a consistent basis.

Affirmations also have the ability to take us to a positive place. These should be positive and believable to you. I recommend reciting these affirmations in the morning and evening.

Meditation is a wonderful way to bring calm and balance to our lives. This is very important in that it allows our awareness to open up. If we are stressed or agitated, it is very difficult to see answers to our problems; however, meditation softens the ego, allowing answers to flow to us.

Prayer is a powerful tool that we can all employ for transformation. And just like meditation, the more individuals that participate, the more powerful the effect. The most powerful prayer is one of complete faith and gratitude.

Music and Sound cannot only bring peace of mind, but they can also restore health to the body. In addition, music and sound can also induce heightened states of consciousness.

Hypnotherapy is another powerful therapeutic tool. We cannot only visit the past, but we can also travel to past lives. This is often referred to as Regression Therapy. What makes hypnotherapy effective is the fact that it addresses issues at the subconscious level.

Other Tools that we might consider include crystals, aromatherapy, art, as well as connecting with nature and animals. We may also want to connect with our angel and guides.

The Present Is the Present

Even though we may wish to visit the future or past, we should never completely abandon the present moment. This is one of the greatest gifts we were given. According to many spiritual teachers, this is the only moment we have (The Eternal Moment). If we spend all our time dreaming about the “good ol’ days,” then it is clear that we are not honoring the present. The same is true for the “worry wart.” Instead of appreciating the present moment, they are worried about something that hasn’t come to pass.

Now, the take home message of the day would be to be mindful whenever we visit the past or future. Remember, our conscious mind is the engine that makes it possible. Instead of condemning ourselves for our past behavior, we can learn and grow from our mistakes. And in closing this article, I want to share with you a very important note:

It is through the gift that we call the Present Moment that we build a better future for us all.

Yes, it is always fascinating to discover things that help us grow. Even in the Plant Kingdom, the plants reach for the light. :)

Marie, I am glad you found this article intriguing. I have always been fascinated with time. When I was a kid, I wanted to build a time machine.

It ia very important to me that "mindfulness" plays a part in time travel. I don't think there is much spiritual growth if we only do it for kicks.

I know who you are talking about. His name is Bruce Goldberg. Actually, a part of this article was inspired by him. I watched several interviews with him on Gaiam TV that were absolutely fascinating. The article was also inspired by the film, "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve. I also learned that are future selves are helping us grow spiritually. It is quite fascinating to see that both the past and the future are both having an effect on our present.

This was intriguing to read! I can see that traveling to the past or future but with mindfulness can help us in our journey if we deal with past issues and heal them and create a positive future with our thoughts.

Years ago I read a book by a future life hypnotherapist, perhaps you know who he is, can't remember his name. It was "Gold" something. He could progress subjects to their future. I assume it the future was not bright his subjects would get guidance to change mental patterns.
