Happy Happy

Welcome to the Human Race

A Uniquely amusing, confusing place

With highs so high

And lows so low

We find we don't know

Which way to go

Where no means yes

And yes means no

Where you must guess

For, you surely don't know

Welcome to the human race

Where everything seems out of place

Where nothing is as it seems

And answers are only found in dreams

Yes, step right up and make your bid

You’ll probably regret the moment you did

But, what the heck, it’s do or die

And if you’re wrong, you can always retry

Oh, pick a card from one to ten

If yours doesn’t turn up

You can do it again

This time, for sure, your card will show

And if it doesn’t…give it another go

A roller coaster ride with a dizzying high

And then, next you know

You’re in a plunging dive

The peaks so tall, almost out of reach

Then, in a moment of time,

You’re in a breach.

But, have no fear, do not dismay

You’re only an actor in this lifelong play

And just like Jim Carey, in the life of Truman,

You’ll come back to earth

You’re only human

This thing we call life, day in day out

Trying to discover what its all about

Often believing we’ve lost our way

We crave what we want,

We plead and we pray

Wishing ‘someone’ or something

We might sway

But have no doubt, there’s help ahead

You just might find what you need

Oh, step right up and state your case

Right or wrong

You must save face

So go along,

Keep with the pace

Afterall, you’re just one

In the Human Race

"Don't be afraid, come on in

Give it a try!

Give it a spin!

Black or red?

"It's not a sin!'

Without a risk

You'll never win!"

We’ve made our bed

In hurry and haste

We lay down our head

And ponder the waste

Or futile attempts at love and loss

We still try to ‘fix it’

No matter the cost

"What did I do wrong?

Didn't I follow the rules?

How could I have known

Life could be so cruel?"

"How has this come to be?

What could have gone so sour?

What will become of me?

Here, in my darkest hour."

When all seems hopeless

And you see no light beyond

When you feel you've lost your compass

The darkest hour is just before the dawn

So, here’s a heads up

And a hint and a clue

The problem is without

And not within you

If you acted in truth

And said what you meant

Then, take it to heart

The time was well spent.

Don’t worry, don’t hate

That imagined lost time

For, up to this date

Learning is no crime

While happiness IS possible

And so sublime!

Please take what you need

And forget about the rest

Put this formula in motion

Put it to the test

Forgive and forget

Lest we find is the case

That, ‘there but for fortune”

"I could be in his place."

There is an answer to our fears

Our many misgivings and our tears

It's as simple as pie

And, this you might try

Cast aside your concerns

With a ‘done that, been there’

And please take solace

In The Serenity Prayer

Smile, rejoice, believe and care

And in doing so

You’ll find right there

In front of you, another who knows

And, sadness, dispair

Out the window it goes!!

Share your heart, your dreams and more

Soon you’ll find others at your door

Wanting to spend a moment or two

For, they know they've found a friend

in you

And yes!, the favor is repaid

As a new pal you will have made

And no sooner then when you do

You'll know delight in even more friends,

Welcome to the Human Race

Where you can find your way through grace

With open heart, and loving ways

You’re sure to have better days

Give yourself and others a break

C’mon, how much effort

Does this take?

To live and let live

In this dance called life

Learn to forgive

Let go of your strife

Just be aware that

As is so often said

Better to have lived

Being glad that you did

Even with mistakes

As you backwards slid

But, thank God, there’s a lesson in

All that has past

Before we continue on

To a lifetime that will last

To err is human

To live is a blast!!!

I wrote this silly little poem in honor of all our 'human-ness." During the last several weeks, many of those whom I care so much about have expressed, in one way or another, morose, sorrow, regrets and more....feeling down and dismayed. There are some, among us, who are feeling particularly down; with dark thoughts and self loathing..... I thought that I wanted to write something a little upbeat, putting all of it into perspective...that, not only do we all go through misgivings and grief, but that we are not alone when we do experience these self depracating thoughts and feelings. What has made all of us so close and real and human, are our foibles, our errors and crazy ideosyncracies...and that we've had the fortitude to open up to our friends, an effort to reach out..even if we don't realize this consciously or would deny it...we are all in the same position here on lifeboat earth.

I love my friends...hope you got a laugh and a little uplift w/this thing.

      Dear Girlfriend, Kathy,

I am so grateful to Martie (another best girlfriend) for sharing this NEW (to me, evergreen article of yours) on FB. I must not have yet been following you or just missed in this crazy busy world...

Like Sharon (above), I thank you for writing this to me and me alone (LOL)! Obviously you have struck a universal chord with so many of us. For me, I am bookmarking what I consider to be one of the most classic pieces I have ever read by you/ anyone. I need this now especially, what an inspirational boost!

Voted UP & UABI-- absolutely fabulous and on target!

Hoping life is treating you well in this phase of your journey. You are missed and hoping you will return when you can. All my love, Maria

Kathy, thanks for posting a link to this poem of yours on Facebook. What a lovely, positive and joyful presentation of the sad existence of the human race - perfect joy and happiness and peace always out of our reach to strive for. This, too, is what distinguishes us from animals. We need more, we want more, so much more than monkeys.... But everything we need more than they, is worthwhile to have.

Voted up and absolutely brilliant. Take care!

Hi Seeker! Of course, you are welcome to share this w/whomever you wish....this is what it was written for...others (and myself)...when times are tough and we feel a little lost or's good to know that we are not alone, that what we're going through is not the first time and that we can, later, look back in relief and laugh "with" ourselves! Thank you for the wonderful comment, Seeker...truly appreciate your kind words. kathy

Hi Colin, Eman! So happy to see that you've read my poem and appreciate it. This means a great deal to me. I think you are being far too kind when you say you've learned from no no...I believe it's the other way around! Through your example, I decided to give a different writing style a try. Had I not been so impressed w/your innate ability to conjure up images and visions through the written work; I would not have ventured into unknown and untested waters. I find I thoroughly enjoy the effort.'s just a white tee shirt and jeans...after yard work...but, I wanted to share the beautiful view looking westward out the large windows which span that side of my Ca. home...such a peaceful and tranquil scene. There is a doe and fawn living here; they've been displaced by all the development which has destroyed their home habitat so, they now live in my back yard....with apples, plums, foilage, fresh water and safety.

Anyway, I digress...Colin, I have visited your wonderful writing on more than several occasions but, with all your faithful followers, I fear you may have missed my visits thus thinking I don't travel your way...see what you have? So much love and support that I am happy for you and pleased that you found this little poem I wrote w/several of my Hub friends in mind. Much regards..Kathy

Hi TK! So glad that we've gotten that little glitch straightened up! Love your picture with the beautiful friend by your side...and 3 cats, 2 dogs...."That reminds's feeding time." Yes, I understand completely. No social life...ditto! But it's all good! I love my animal family so much that nothing will ever come first for me; they depend upon me and my constant care...and so be it. I am going to take time to catch up on your writing; I really value what I've read thus far. Thank you again for the visit!

Must post this to my Bookface page with a direct link back here which will bring you all of the members of the San Fran Giants and the two surviving Beatles - and my god you even mentioned one of my favorite movies TRUMAN - one of the pure pleasures at the Hub was meeting (and learning from) you dear Kathy!!!!!

Little Miss Tiffy and Mister Gabriel say hello and there is a new half moon over my lake wishing you continued health and happiness.

Well shucks, little lady. Was feeling a bit ignored after not getting a response, but I'm better now. Read your profile and applaud the work you do. If you look closely at my picture, you'll see I'm a friend of the animal kingdom too, although I don't have what it takes to house them all. With that said, I've got three cats and two dogs and no social life. That reminds me it's feeding time.

      Thanks for the wonderful reply.

TK's view...just seeing your comment now...what a great addition to the ongoing saga put to words in poetry! You used a phrase, "the bad...." Hey Lucky Cats,

      What a wonderful little prose.

When life all around gets tough,

your words can soften the blows.

Keep it going, there's never enough

I thought this up for several of the wonderful people here who have written about self doubt, questioning, loss and more...I thought "hey, we're all in the same boat!" Let's have a laugh about it, shall we?! So glad it helped you, Augustine..even the brightest, bravest and most apparently immune to day to day woes among us needs an uplifting word, huh?

He reminds me, "It's tough being only human, isn't it?" And he's right, sometimes it is, but I'm obviously not alone in my humaness...thank goodness!

Welcome, VietNamVet and catgypsy. Yes, this life can be topsy turvy, can't it? So many of us saying the same thing in different ways; I wanted to "soften" the blows that we feel from time to time. Lots of people are going through "something" right now and, if you've felt just a little less isolated after reading this silly poem then, I'm happy that it helped...just reminding us that we ARE NOT alone and, whatever we may be going through; we aren't the first and, surely, we will not be the last...hopefully, this lessens the impact of hurtful times.

thank you two wonderful people, Steve and catgypsy, for visiting. Kathy
