Warning Against Theological Error

Updated on February 16, 2012

God Wants You To Be Aware Of The Error Of Those That Oppose The Gospel

Churches can get off of their moorings and we need to guard ourselves against it. It's like the blind leading the blind and we fall into the ditch together which is what is called false teaching. When we face opposition in life it is still possible to rejoice in and through God.

Philippians 3:1 ~ "Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the LORD! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you."

The Apostle Paul warned against false teachers.

Philippians 3:2 ~ "Watch out for those dogs, those men who do evil, those mutilators of the flesh."

  • He called them "dogs."
  • He called them "evil doers."
  • He called them those who "mutilate the flesh."

God has the ability to change the lepers spots. He is able to change us. We put no confidence in the flesh. We realize it's all about God. It would be really easy to think 'I did it', when in reality, I didn't do it at all. Only the Gospel of Jesus Christ can clean up a life. God sent His Son to become a man who lived a sinless life. He went to the cross and died. Not swooned He died, He rose again because He is God and He conquered death.

Paul described the true followers of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 3:3 ~ "For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus. and who put no confidence in the flesh."

  • They worship by the Spirit of God. They are transformed.
  • They glory in Christ Jesus. Jesus is their Lord.
  • They put no confidence in the flesh. It's not about them.

Things To Think About:

  • The death of Jesus Christ on the cross provides forgiveness from sin and the free gift of eternal life. This is much more than a metaphor.
  • Salvation is by faith with repentance in Jesus Christ. Good works will follow those that believe in Jesus.
  • No one can earn their way to heaven by doing good works.

God Wants Us To Be Aware Of The Actions Of Those That Oppose The Gospel

Paul wanted about many enemies opposing the Cross of Christ.

Philippians 3:18 ~ "For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ."

There are many churches in America that treat the cross of Christ as a metaphor ~ a story ~ is it real? There destination is destruction. Paul said they were selfish and arrogant. There are those who try to persuade others away from the faith. There are also those who say the Bible doesn't mean what it says. They want to make it say whatever 'they' want it to say. If this were so, even a little child wouldn't be able to understand it and I don't think that's the way God intended it to be written as such. It means what it says.

God Wants Us To Be Aware Of The Actions Of Those That Oppose The Gospel

Paul described these enemies as being proud and materialistic.

Philippians 3:19 ~ "Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things."

Things To Think About:

  • Not everyone agrees with faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Some people have an agenda to try and dismantle our faith in Jesus Christ.

God Wants You To Be Aware Of The Future Of Those That Oppose The Gospel

Philippians 3:19a ~ "Their destiny is destruction..."

Christians are going to give an account for the deeds that are done in the body whether they be good or bad. This will be at the judgment seat of Christ. Everything you did in your lifetime that was a 'waste' will be consumed at the judgment seat of Christ and only the things that were done for God will count. The books will be opened and everyone will be judged. Christ loves everyone and died for everyone. Those who reject Jesus Christ will not have eternal life with Him.

2 Corinthians 5:10 ~ "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad."

Don't dilute the message to conform to the 'ways of the world'. The 'ways of the world' will do that to the message if we allow it to. There will not be the 'power' within it if we do that. The lepers spots won't be removed if we dilute it down.

Non-churched people will give an account for their actions at the Great White Throne Judgment.

Revelation 20:11-12 ~ "Then I saw a great white throne and Him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from His presence, and there was no place for them. v.12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books."

  • Things To Think About:
  • We shall all give account for our life before God.
  • God doesn't want anyone to suffer eternal punishment.
  • Everyone is given a measure of faith to believe in God through Christ.

What is done for God will last. I pray that before you die, that you will make the decision to follow Jesus. It will be the best decision you will ever make. He wants to give forgiveness of sin and eternal life within. As you bring your faith to Him and turn from your personal independence, He will change you from the inside out.

Before we open our mouths about scripture, we must first seek the Holy Spirit for guidance as to how God wishes the scripture to be viewed and interpreted, for only God knows for sure how we are to apply it and for what purpose it is truly meant for.

Hi Bible Studies thank you for your great comment. If a person doesn't know what the Bible says, how are they going to know if what the person behind the pulpit is saying is truth or error? I too am in a church that challenges and inspires the congregation to read the Bible and I'm grateful for it. Have a great day and God bless! :-)

Good hub. One needs to know what the Bible says, and not just what is preached in the pulpit. It is good to be in a church that challenges it's congregation to read the Bible.

Hi Hyphenbird thank you for your wonderful comments. I couldn't agree with you more. Being taught is a great thing. But if the leader is errant in what he is teaching, a person won't know that unless they have spent time reading and studying the Word for themselves. Great insightful words! Have a great day and God bless! :-)

Even a faithful church leader can be off or deceived in an area or two. We must read and study the Bible ourselves so we recognize falsehood when it is presented. So many just want to be taught and not to learn through their own effort. I do believe that is how all you have written about gets started.
